Do you think Apple will engrave a firewire port on my iPod nano?

I know what you USB apologists are going to say. But that doesn't change the fact that my firewire port on my PB is my "iPod port" and my USB ports are "already in use by everything else!" :p

i think if u already have an existing ipod firewire cable u can connect it to the ipod nano. i have the same issue because my mini only has 2 usb ports ><

Love motorola HATE Cingular

its beauuuuuuuutiful!!!!!!!!!!!

no firewire?! as it is beauuuuuutiful, who cares.....shuffle also no firewire
now the question is, who will still buy Motorola phone while u see NANO....

Wasn't a hard choice for me (Nano vs Moto). I don't want a MP3 (or Digital audio player) that generates more RF then a standard Walkman. I am afraid to death of Cancer? Possibly, but it is such a small capacity on the phone, and when I am listening to my iPod I don't want to be bothered. I do love my Motorola phones and think they work great for the most part, but this one isn't for me.

AT&T / Cingular messed with my credit report claiming I owed them money for breech of contract. This started when they put a mark on my credit saying I aborted my contract EARLY without paying the early cancelation fee, when in fact my contract was up 2 years PRIOR to my switching to Verizon (Meaning it was WELL after my contract expired).

I had (and do again) good credit up to that point, and I have no love for any company that puts marks on credit reports without even trying to contact their customer to resolve a dispute. I never received a call or letter from AT&T / Cingular in regards to that.

With that, I will never do business with them, no matter how cool their phones are, or how great their coverage is.

The new 'nano' looks great, but does anyone know for sure if it works with Griffin iTalk. Please say yes :p

It's missing the data/power jack next to the headphone... so I don't think it would work... just my $0.02.

Just ordered a 2 gig white iPod Nano... can't wait for it arrive (please not dead pixels).

Nope, but almost!

Wow I was glad to see this release at first. However, my excitement left me as I looked at was left.

There is no new 8GB iPod mini (and I have been waiting a year). There isn't even a 6BG. This product is expensive, costing closer to the old mini price than the shuffle.

I understand that this is a nifty and advanced product, but I'm not going to get one. It doesn't fill the missing niche. Looks like another year of waiting and hoping?

As a stand-alone product though, this is perfect. There's more of a "cool, iPods from that Marcintash company are even neater-dahr" market for them than traditional users looking for something better tailored for their specific needs. Its a money game. I just want that game to play in my direction sooner or later. I just want an iPod I can run with that holds my 7GB of music - all of it.

Oh well...

i am such a victim of technological advancement! i bought a shuffle last week. well im gonna try to fork it off on craigslist and buy me a black one of these...

the nano is friggin' sick! i want to get my hands on one, i'm not sure white or black. i do want it to match my brand new 20" iMac G5 :D but the black just seems real slick and "new". I have two iPods already, two 3G's, one with a broken screen (my friend broke his and gave it to me) and another that's in decent shape. I don't really want a shuffle now, especially for $50 more, I can now get twice the storage, a color screen, a click well, 2hrs battery life i think, and something to talk/brag about. SWEET!

i'm getting one, but WHY do we have to go back to those easily-scratched shiny backs? i wouldn't have minded a completely white or completely black one. It's just those damn scratches I hate.
they want you to get those tube things.. and im falling for it.. stupid genius marketing

so lets see here, i have a shuffle and a 20gigga......nano here i come. i will find a place for this pod just like how i made my 20gig (my home pod) and my shuffle (the walk the dog pod) the nano will be for my car podding experience.

Goodbye mini i will miss "thinking about buying you everytime i go into the apple store but chicken out" routine. we will always have the ATL store!

from the Shibuya Apple Store at 10.15 this morning (opened at 10.00).

There was a lot of stock out on the counters (and heaps of un-opened long brown carboard boxes ready to explode!) and around 50 people lined up at the register...

And a nice black iPod nano shopping bag that the little nano box fit in noce and snug...

Also got an arm band, but no lanyard headphones, I guess they are still on the way...

Please post a little review on this. How about the sound quality?

Any guesses as to whether Bose will supply a new adaptor for the nano to fit in the Sound Dock?

The Nano will fit any "dock hole" that can fit a mini. It comes with a "Dock Adapter" that coverts it from nano size to mini size. Don't tell anyone but it looks like the nano dock is actually a mini dock.

WOw.....

I think the Nano will hit the competition hard.......Looks great...Black is...how shall i put it....'sexy'......moto should have asked apple to design the fone....the best moto fone is so far the razar( this is on looks only everything else in it is crap)...but i think that was more a mistake than an intension to make a good(looking) fone ( i am under the impression that moto intentionally makes ugly fones)

ON the Nano i have to see it....before i get it.....i got all the i-pods i need at the moment.....( it will be the black one for sure...) :D :D

i bet the only thing they did to it was make it smaller..

Also, the line out must have been replaced by a headphone out signal through the dock connector; it would not be possible to change the volume of lanyard headphone using the click wheel if the nano has line out.

Goodbye FireWire; I shall miss you. Oh the good times...

So there's no way to get a line out from the nano at all? That's not good for those wanting to connect to other amps/home stereos etc.

well now i know it is possibly small. even tho i have seen it dissasembled, i still don't know how it is possible to cram so much into so little.. those crazy angels in cuprintino..

It's not that Apple has forgotten about you. It's that things move on. USB 2.0 is now the ubiquitous standard for things from mice to printers to the iPod. It is now only high speed hard drives and digital video cameras that use Firewire. Apple is merely reflecting what's happening in the industry as a whole!

There are also new tape drives which come in FireWire version, but not in USB.

apple has nothing up its sleeves

This is a desparate attempt by apple to get revenue, they have no new ideas on the computer line until intel & now they are trying to sell you same **** for more money - who cares if its flash - like that will ever be something you ask the sales assistant before buying an MP3 player - its all about capacity & money.

the nano is nice enough, but thats it. nice. the pricing is ALL wrong! £30 separates the 4Gb & the 20Gb.

Be cool, Nano not "same ****"

First of all, chill out dude. In the context of everything else that's on the news, this is nothing to get upset about.

The flash media made it possible to shrink the size of the iPod to what the Nano is now. Flash memory means less power is needed so the battery can also be smaller. Flash is also much more suitable for activities like jogging because bumps are more likely to damage hard drives like the one used in the iPod Mini. Finally, flash memory is only one of many new features in the Nano. I like the lanyard headphones and the colour screen. Those features were not offered on the Mini and I am glad that Apple re-designed the middle of the range iPod to include them all.

I know that, but iPods and iPod mini allow for line out through the dock that's not gone through the headphone amp circuitary, and gives you possibly a purer signal to work with. Though probably not a big deal as you say. I'm keen to hear sound quality reports - I really hope the nano has the superb bass response of the Shuffle.

RADIO WHO?

maya said:
no FM, or XM radio, not BT. Sounds lacking. I have one already and am pleased so far. NO requirement to upgrade yet. :)

As for the headphone jack on the bottom, I believe when you dock it the sound is sent via the USB 2.0 cable to the computer and if I am not mistaken there is a headphone jack on the back of the dock. If not Apples mistake. ;) :)

Sorry, is there someone out there still longing for radio/XM/BT on the iPod? Come on guys, radio is so...out.

If you want a monster with everything, go buy an iRiver or Creative...that's why they are not selling well at all...simplicity is the key.

if all the standard accessories still work on the ipod nano, which i'm guessing they do since the connector is the same, then you can get a sik din or a pocketdock and get a line out that way. better yet, get the sik din, a good mini->mini cable, a portable headphone amp, and some decent canalphones like the shures, etys, ultimate ears, etc., and the ipod can really sing!

something i like about the shuffle is that the button sticks up from the player. you can FEEL it when you need to pause or adjust the music somehow. you don't have to look at it. it's good for working out. you can hide it under your clothes and still control it by feel.

still, the nano is way cooler.
