Whoa, so you cheer the death of the combo drive, a topic that has been covered ad nauseum for probably a good year. Master of the obvious. I don't know if you are aware or have caught on, but this is MacRumors, not MacAppleStrategy. This isn't a strategic management forum. I've contributed plenty on plenty of threads here, and I and others have been around long enough to be able to spot a fanboy. You pulled the same "against the grain" nonsense during the iPhone 3G, and during the Macbook Air release, if memory serves me correctly.

And please, please do review my posts and tell me exactly where I proclaimed (in a bitchy/moany tone) that I would never buy an Apple product again. Or maybe you're just getting me confused with the other people who are tired of your incendiary posts.
I think remember those too now you mention it , oh and he can't be talking about me either I don't believe I've ever said that about Apple products either .

I think he must have me blocked after the last time I happened across him on this forum , that is the only reason i can think of for not responding to my posts thus far . and now I try and think what that was I cannot remember but I realized the fanboy tendency's at that point

I presume they are actually on the :apple:payroll these people , mind you that could be said about any corporation these days.

I digress , I'm still looking for a USB sound card if any one could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it .......I really really dont want to have to learn windows

Regarding the backlit keyboard on the 2.0 MB:

I sat with a friend while he called the Canadian Apple support... Even when pointing out the discrepancy between the checkout page and the specs pages/Jobs' announcement, they insisted that backlit is still standard.

While it is most likely that it is an error on the Canadian and US Apple sites (and not an error on the part of Mr. Jobs or the specs page), it is conceivable that Apple could differentiate features depending on geographical location. With the price gauging that I've being hearing about the UK and Korean Apple sites, a bad day for international customers.

and also, how will i go about using migration assistant with no firewire?
Maybe, just maybe, via ethernet.

By the way, to add further fuel to the "thinness vs. usability" debate (sorry for cross posting, but has this been noted yet?):

New MacBook uses lower capacity battery. 45 Wh battery instead of 55 Wh like the previous one:

http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=3431&p=2 (MBP also with lower capacity battery)

What about real-life battery runtimes?

I wasnt saying you specifically where bitchy. Not every thing said in a post is always directed to the quoted person.

"against the grain nonsense" I'm not sure what you mean by that in regards to the 3G or Air, but silly me for having an opinion. The only thing I can think of regarding the air was me responding to people that were complaining it couldn't do all the functions of the MB or MBP. I was simply stating that the air isnt meant to be anything other than a travel companion laptop acting satelite-esque to your other macs. God forbid i didnt just jump in on the bashing. Never read my criticisms of apple for the coreshutdown and terrible video playback problems tho did you?

If Jesus Himself returned to earth and turned water in to wine, half of the people on macrumors would respond "eh, it's red. I wanted white."

LOL! That is so true!

Other posts that would follow in the forums:

"I can't believe He didn't drop the price by $2 per bottle like the rumor sites suggested was imminent. How can He expect to sell many crates of this stuff when that boxed stuff is selling for 1/3 less?"

"He should have at least increased the volume per bottle."

"I like the shape of the old bottle much better. And that new bottle is too shiny. When I try to read the label, the reflection of the lights in the room off of the bottle really bother me. I liked the dull-surface bottles much better."

You've been saying that it is Apple's strategy, we've been saying it's nuts. It's sounded like you've been rationalizing a position that's nuts, therefore you get yelled at.

Isaac
Then your really not getting what I'm saying at all.

Having FW has now become a feature of the pro as a result of the MB not having it. Why that would drive people to buy a MB ill never know?

Why would I block someone for having a different opinion than me?

If you could give me something to respond to again Ill gladly do it if you wish. As you can tell ive been a little busy with other resonses :D

Jonathan Ive from the Macbook video-

" If something doesn't need to be there it's not there..."

I would like to know how this pertains to firewire as everyone is asking

I don't care if its there personally but for everyone else, why would he say this and take out an important feature to a lot of people?

btw Jonathan Ive's voice is cool and convincing haha, even though he does that eye popping thing when he talks

get into politics kid , it'll suit you

And id rather not continue to go further off topic (so i guess id be a terrible politician). What were the issues you wanted me to respond to?

I'm a little iffy personally on the new trackpads. I know ill get used to the new one, but damn i was hoping for the old style.

Also, anyone care to take a guess at if there are any real differences between the non backlit keyboard and backlit (besides, obviously, the light) because I would just order the backlit keyboard seperately and put it in myself.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Backlit-keyboards use up battery more.

LOL, i have feeling jobs felt a little iffy about putting such a bad public speaker up there (come on, he could barely go through a sentance without spacing out). Im sure he let it slide tho because he realized the smooth british accent will win people over regardless :p

Your second gen is still working?!

I've actually been curious about this, ive never actually seen an ipod cable that uses firewire. Did apple sell those seperately or did they include two cables before they phased FW out?
It's what I've got.

Hell, I've never even used the USB port on my laptop for anything other than a flash drive. Why not drop one of the USB ports?

I'm certainly not going to upgrade to a $2000 laptop for a FW port. I'll just buy the $999 one and apple is out a few hundred bucks from me.

i know that the gloss part is a big let down to many of us(including myself).. but the firewire section is just irrelevant? USB3.0 is coming out by next year?? do some google search about "usb3.0"?

"A Super-Speed (USB 3.0) rate of 4.8 Gbit/s (600 MB/s). The USB 3.0 specification was released by Intel and its partners in August 2008, according to early reports from CNET news. According to Intel, bus speeds will be 10 times faster than USB 2.0 due to the inclusion of a fibre-optic link that works with traditional copper connectors. Products using the 3.0 specification are likely to arrive in 2009 or 2010."

I am not so worry about Firewire in comparison to usb 3.0!?!? what if the next update have an usb3.0 port in it?

like some have said, the entry price point here in Australia is just BAD! $2099!! and $2549?!?! the worst part of them all, is that you can't even get educational discount for macbook anymore! after clicking educational discounts, the price remain the same?

Backlit Keyboard

So I have read through countless people saying that the 2.0 macbook will have the backlit keyboard because the store says it and it is even showing up on their receipt invoice. As I am in the market for one of these new machines and trying to determine which to buy, I became curious. With the education discount, there is a $250 price difference between the 2.0 and 2.4 and that becomes $160 when I upgrade the HD of the 2.0 to the 250GB found in the 2.4ghz. Now if the 2.0 has a backlit, the $160 difference is only due to a 2.4ghz processor core duo, therefore a 20% raw power boost since it is a core duo processor and what not.

Nonetheless, I called apple 3 times and spoke with different people each time (2 sales reps and 1 customer service rep). They all initially just looked at the store site and said that the 2.0 would come with a backlit. Once I mentioned the discrepancy, they looked into it further and contacted an "engineer." Each one of them came back saying that the 2.0 is not equipped to handle the backlit keyboard and they will NOT be arriving with backlit keyboards, even though receipts indicate otherwise. I even mentioned that people on this forum indicated that apple reps told them that keyboards would be backlit. They then said that the other reps must not have fully explored the problem and that they are confident that they will be getting some angry calls. When I asked how they intend to resolve the problem, they responded by saying that the individuals will have the 14 day return period following delivery to return the product if they so desire and purchase a different product. It seems that since all other information on the website and Steve's keynote today all implied the opposite of the apple store configuration, they have their bases well covered and will problem just email people or post a news thingy with the change to make sure that the purchase is what they wanted even without the backlit keyboard if it hasn't shipped yet. If they already have shipped for you, be sure to post when your 2.0 arrives and it isn't backlit. But that is what I was able to discern from apple reps this evening.

They didn't leave FW400 out because it cost more. This is the same idea as when they took the floppy off the original iMac.
I know this is basic product differentiation 101.
Still, I think it adds to profits.

How much are FireWire chips? Surely more than a dollar, right?
