LOL! That is so true!

"I can't believe He didn't drop the price by $2 per bottle like the rumor sites suggested was imminent. How can He expect to sell many crates of this stuff when that boxed stuff is selling for 1/3 less?"

"He should have at least increased the volume per bottle."

"I like the shape of the old bottle much better. And that new bottle is too shiny. When I try to read the label, the reflection of the lights in the room off of the bottle really bother me. I liked the dull-surface bottles much better."

i know that the gloss part is a big let down to many of us(including myself).. but the firewire section is just irrelevant? USB3.0 is coming out by next year?? do some google search about "usb3.0"?

"A Super-Speed (USB 3.0) rate of 4.8 Gbit/s (600 MB/s). The USB 3.0 specification was released by Intel and its partners in August 2008, according to early reports from CNET news. According to Intel, bus speeds will be 10 times faster than USB 2.0 due to the inclusion of a fibre-optic link that works with traditional copper connectors. Products using the 3.0 specification are likely to arrive in 2009 or 2010."

I am not so worry about Firewire in comparison to usb 3.0!?!? what if the next update have an usb3.0 port in it?

like some have said, the entry price point here in Australia is just BAD! $2099!! and $2549?!?! the worst part of them all, is that you can't even get educational discount for macbook anymore! after clicking educational discounts, the price remain the same?

Doesnt FW 3200 spank usb 3??

Oh Wait. -insert new macbook - where do I stick thisss cable?

Apogee worked closely with Apple to put out this Fire Wire Interface ( the duet ) which works seamlessly with garage band and logic. Completly Pro Level A/D conversion, for a bargain price of 500$ ( other apogee interfaces are much much more expensive )

So for 1200$ a pro level, college musician could buy a computer, add 500 more and buy Logic Pro ( which the new coldplay album was produced with ) and then spend another 500, and buy the SAME converters/pre amps that the album was recorded with. At this point the college student is broke but has a fully functional professional power house system. Now they need to drop 1,000 more dollars.

Not Cool.

They didn't leave FW400 out because it cost more. This is the same idea as when they took the floppy off the original iMac.

Sorry, you lose.

This is nothing like the floppy (which was well on it's way to obsoletion when the iMac was released). If you needed a floppy drive, you could buy an external one for $50.... we can't buy an external firewire adapter (we could, if macbooks had PCI express, but that's a topic for another rant).

You could copy files by emailing them to another machine. We can't email music from our audio interfaces.

You could burn files to CDs (and later DVDs). You can't do this with DV camcorders, and those camcorders that do burn to DVD are usually low in quality.

Why is it so hard to understand? Anyone who does audio/video work and/or has a lot of external drives NEEDS firewire.

Look folks, in all thus hubbub about the missing ports and higher prices, you must understand Apple's philosophy: KISS. So, if less than 2% of the installed base uses FW, then it's superfluous. And if the prices need to go up relatively speaking and you just bought their stock at $106, then you will be very happy to know that Apple will make more money.

They're in business to make money, plain and simple. Now, they could have made a lot more people a lot happier with the addition of the FW port, but that doesn't fit their long-term vision of simplifying hardware to minimize cost and boost margins. :)

It makes just has much sense as the recessed headphone jack from iPhones of old.

Im not really sure were the confusion is in that. One laptop has FW while the other clearly does not.

I guess in terms of FW that puts them in two seperate groups.

Explains things well, but pisses off some people : /

EditGuy, if you would spend 12+ hours per day editing ANYthing on a laptop, you would come to the realization that a glossy screen is incredibly annoying. And you are getting annoying too... There is a reason why 'pros' require a matte screen. Get pro, and you'll know.

I think Apple should have removed the headphone jack from the Macbook, to further differentiate it from the Pro machines.

After all, only Pros require the critical listening you can only get with a good set of headphones!

You know, I probably would have purchased a MB, but the lack of Firewire really is a problem for me. I have three hard drives that instantly become useless to me, since they're Firewire only.
EDIT: I suppose I could use the USB HD that is currently used to backup and iMac and use one the Firewire drives for the iMac instead. So only two drives are useless.

I was ready to purchase today....but the lack of Firewire got me too.
What would I do with a new video camera with firewire connection now? Are there any firewire to usb adapters possibly??

I just watched the keynote online and I will honestly say that I am not impressed.

I like the look of the new macbooks but what gets my goat is Apple's less is more attitude. They lose the firewire on the macbook? Now how are a lot of potential switchers going to use their older camcorders? If I was to be buying a Mac now, I would not be getting a new MB as I would have no way to get video off my camera. Also I have been investing in firewire hard drives for the interface superiority over USB2. The MBP is out of the equation as it is just too expensive. Then there is the display port. This is great, but next to no displays use it and Apply charges you more for adapters. But the display port has also lost functionality. The old mini DVI could be converted to DVI (and hence HDMI) but also importantly, you could convert to composite and s-video. Composite and s-video conversion is no longer possible with display port (or at least it is not listed on the specs). There are still many TVs out there without digital connections. If I had a new MB (or Pro), I would not be able to output on my relative's TVs to show family video or photos because none of them have digital connections. That would suck after flying 4000 miles to visit them...

Its bad enough that the MB lost the Firewire (I would have hoped for it to have been upgraded to FW800 at least like the iMac) but for the MBP its worse. Previously the MBP had 3 USB2, 1 FW400 and 1 FW800. Now its only got 2 USB2 and only 1 FW800. What a rip!

Oh and one more thing. Apple is charging how many thousands of dollars for the MB and MBP but you can't even throw in the Apple remote anymore? You cheap bastards!

Other than the FireWire problem, do you ladies and gentlemen consider the new Aluminium MacBook to be the "true 12" PowerBook G4 replacement"?

Obviously, I can only speak for myself, but I don't consider the new MacBook a replacement to the 12" PowerBook. It gets a bit closer, but given that it has the same footprint as the now previous generation MacBooks, it's still pretty healthily sized.

There is still a 12" PB in my household and whenever I use it I still say, "I forgot how TINY this thing is!" I would never say my Santa Rosa MacBook is big, but I would also never say that it is small, let alone tiny.

The 12" PB had dedicated graphics and FW 400 (though it did not have 1Gb Ethernet).

I would be surprised if others felt the new MacBook were a suitable replacement. I would guess that anyone that had a 12" PB would say, "Heck no!"

Is the new MacBook a bad computer? Nah. But a 12" PB replacement I would not call it.

don't know where you got the idea that less then 2% of Apple's installed base uses firewire... then you call it superfluous? Are we talking about FIREWIRE or... a neon light show?!?! With the exception of USB– I can't think of a port more crucial then firewire. Also, are you seriously suggesting that the exclusion of a firewire port will increase apple's profit margin? Any miniscule profit will be completely negated by the group of consumers who simply cannot buy this product because it lacks a F/W port. For me, the idea that MBP gets 800 and MB gets none is kind of like giving a 5-series a V-10 BiTurbo... and then letting the 3-series drivers pedal their cars... it's ludicrous.

IOW, offer less and raise the price. And hope your customers are imbeciles.
