I know that I'm in the minority, but I think these new models are great. They offer great value (not at MSRP, but at the usually discounted sale prices). They omit the gimmicks IMO (ProMotion, no-headphone jack, bezel-less), and are capable of doing what iOS is capable of.
Yup. Aside from the "old" design, these things are great. People who don't care about bezels (people who don't spend hours a day on tech sites) are gonna buy tons of them.

Almost tempting.... if it were $100 cheaper. But this proves just how overpriced the previous model has been for the past 2 years.

I'll wait a few months until they pop up in the refurb store for 15% off. Then the pricing will be okay.

You are right regarding the other gimmicks but ProMotion is a really nice feature that I would like to see in the new iPads. I stay with my 2017 iPP because of this and maybe a price reduced 2017 10.5" might be a better deal. Regarding the Mini size you have no other choice...

Perfect. The new Mini will make a great auxiliary home automation interface/controller for me.

I will easily be grabbing the 64GB cellular + pencil. I'm just going to wait on the initial hands on reviews before purchasing. This seems to be exactly what I have been looking to replace my iPad 3 with for a while. It's going to be great for using on my train ride everyday.

How would you charge the 2nd gen Pencil with the old design?
Thanks to...
To charge it.
you all...
The difference in edges is significant because the P2 snaps to the side of the current iPad Pros and is charged inductively. Without a chassis redesign there aren't magnets to hold it in place, an edge for it to be held in place to, or inductive charging hardware to charge the P2.

The Pencil 2 holds to the side of the chassis with magnets. My guess is that they would want this same functionality.
explanations that contain actual details that add substance and information.
That IS the reason. But feel free to disagree.
Maybe next time provide info instead of argumentative vague snark.

HORRIBLE. apple’s confirm it is on the technology go slow, repackaging old technology and passing it off as new.
Not only disappointing but just plainly pathetic.

Nice update, think it ticks all the boxes people wanted - I might look into getting one for media consumption on the go...

The off-center Home Button looks not very Apple-like. Can't unsee it.
That was already the case with the mini 4 - they made it thinner (from the mini 3) but enlarged the footprint!

I'm not even going to lie. I have my Pro 11 sitting in front of me, and I was discussing with the gf that I think I want a new ereader... but then Apple has to go and put out a modern Mini.

I'm very, very temped. And I know mom is going to get one for her birthday this year.

Good to see the Mini get a long awaited refresh. But the bezels? Should’ve been adjusted a bit.

I like how the $329 iPad is still around. That thing saw some nice price reductions last Black Friday. To me, an A10 processor at $250 is better than paying $500 for the new iPad Air.

It could be worse...

Yesterday Apple was still selling the old iPad Mini 4 with the A8 processor.

They could have skipped this release altogether and kept selling that. Or cancelled the Mini completely. :p

It's funny... you say taking the old iPad Mini chassis and upgrading the internal components is disappointing and pathetic...

But how many people would be THRILLED if they took the old Cheesegrater and just updated its internals? :D

May be the case, I have a 2018 Pro and that's the first iPad I have since 2012 so I don't remember. Doesn't make it any better though. I would expect that Apple would fix that over the years.
