9400!!!! I can't believe it... bffffff

Did anyone notice that the Time Capsule besides offering dual networking now offers 1) an automatic guest mode to use the A/B/G network or whatever as a guest mode with or without password while locking off your main network on the other network? great for having friends over and letting them use your network without having to give them long passwords or remove the password opening up your network to attack and 2) if you are a mobile me user you can FILE SHARE EVERYTHING VIA THE NET FROM YOUR TIME CAPSULE DRIVE! I wonder if iTunes streaming works with this.

oh well i shipped my 1 week old Capsule back to Amazon and I already ordered the new one.

Really a non-issue since it has Firewire 800. Unless you consider double the speed for Firewire a bad thing. You can pick up a FW800 to FW400 cable really cheap.

Cheap is more than free, but yes.

I kind of liked having two FW ports . . . even though you can daisy chain, not everything can be (old iPod dock, old iSight, videocam)

£649 for the high-end mini? That is crazy pricing.

As far as I can tell, the difference is 1GB RAM and 200GB of hard drive space. Not worth £150 I suspect. I'd just buy 2 2GB SODIMMs and stick them in myself, and sell the 1GB SODIMM to another Mac Mini 1GB user who only wanted 2GB in total.

As for the hard drive, I'd get one of the Mac Mini styled hard drive bays and a 1TB hard drive.

I know the pound has fallen against the dollar, but I feel these products are just a smidgeon too expensive.

So, I realize a lot of people are disappointed in the spec update for the iMac, but I'm still planning to pick one up today for my better half. She doesn't play video games, so the mid-range 24" iMac is perfect for her.

Looking forward to getting the new machine in a few days.

My Eee uses less than your Mac Mini when it idles and it's a standard pc.
It probably does...I don't know.

Though you may cause a big healthy discussion/argument over the Eee being a "standard PC". Whether the Eee netbook or nettop, spec wise its hardly a Mac mini and many (not wanting to start an argument here!) would not class it as standard.

What's interesting here is that Apple have realised that the Mac mini wasn't really selling with its current marketing lingo, small and compact just won't work anymore, especially with netbooks etc. What does work these days is low power while maintaining the performance of 'standard' PCs (ie: not sacrificing on many standard features, such as optical drives, none-extra portable processors (atom etc).)

Whether it works or not I'm happy to see Apple place the Mac mini as a green computer, whether it's the "world's lowest power desktop" I'm gonna guess it isn't, but its still a welcome power usage rating.

UK entry model mac mini,

28% price increase.

Surely, this won't sell.
I agree. I can only pressume it's a quick maths calculation based on current economic climates, not a proper look at the UK market and pricing accordingly, its just plain US pricing and UK conversion with no UK consideration.

Ouch.

you want to buy a PC mate!!

Come guys...
I know that I rather pay $499 for a Mac mini.
I can say what ever I want.. how about $1for a top of the line MBP!
Actullay I want you to pay me to take a mac!

Unfortunately, the world doesn't (always) work like this.
You got to decide and do the sums. Either you can afford and want to pay their price, or go get branded PC or beige box.
In this economy you will have to factor in the TCO again, with this fx.

If you want USD prices... then go to the US. But beware that they have "sales tax" on top of their base price.

So in fact... if you are trying to arbitrage the fx, you should factor in the tax.
(The sales tax varies state to state, I just chose 8%)

($600 * 1.08 (sales tax)) / 1.4 (the exchange rate) * 1.15 (VAT) = £532

To those defending the uk price jump. The fact of the matter is overnight, the imacs have basically been downgraded but have had a few hundred quid put on top of the price.

And wherever your from, this "update" is still *****. A worse (un-upgradable) gpu trade for a $15 ram boost and about $30 worth of HDD?!

The following need reiterating on every page...

WORST UPDATE EVER!!!!
Oh my god UK Prices WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. FORGET IT!!!
Disgusting:mad:

No real performance gains there as nvidia doesn't utilize sideport like latest integrated amd/ati chpiset 790gx does.

Not true. Phenom II has the ability to underclock from 3Ghz to 800Mhz when less juice is needed, i7 knows how to shut down it's cores, DDR3 uses less voltage than DDR2 and hybridcrossifre can disable main graph card automatically and switch to integrated while idling which in turn know how to lovwer it's voltages.

My Eee uses less than your Mac Mini when it idles and it's a standard pc.

Agreed. But the Eee is a bit underpowered compared to the Mac Mini and the i7 is rather high-end right now. I think the 2.0 GHz Core 2 clocks down to 1.0 and rarely stays at 2.0 GHz.

I could also argue the eeePC isn't a standard PC if you're using linux on it. :)

I'd get an MSI Wind if I had a powerful desktop at home. My 3 year old Macbook is actually my main computer, the Mini is just Home Server, Media Center, Audio Recording Workstation (yay for Firewire 400).

Nice but , Teh Prices !!!!!!

£950 for an iMac ? £500 for a Mac Mini and £1900 for a Mac Pro !

what apple think i do for a living ! rob banks? (or Bankers)

Or the fact that the Pound, CAD, and Euro has been losing a lot of value compared to the USD which they operate in. Price in Canad had gone way down and are slowly making their way back up as the currency swings back down from par.

Neither VLC/Plex uses the graphics to play movies, only thing that matters is the proccesor.

It would be awesome if they did. Maybe in SL? I know I have 1/2gb of vRam + 8600gt. I'd love to use that for running my EveTV and have processing power left to encode some stuff. Man that would be sweet.
