Snow Leopard will kick the crap out of Windows 7.

In terms of what?

Sales? Not a chance.
Market Share (compared to today)? No way.
New user adaption? Nope.
Stability? Probably even. I don't know about SL, but W7 in beta is very stable.
Speed? Maybe, but W7 in beta is faster than Leopard right now.
Features? Hard to say. W7 has a lot of great features. Apple is tight lipped on SL features.

I'll vote with my wallet, betting that 10k worth of MS stock right now will be worth more than 10k of Apple in 12 months.

?!

So this means I have ditch my Mini?! I mean so far it has blown me away at the things it can do and the thing I have asked it to do God Bless this tiny machine for being as powerful if not more so than my ol' G4 but dang it man if I have to get a new one!!! :(

:apple:

They decided to stop being competitive and decided to appeal directly to a niche audience, one that sees a computer as part of their lifestyle and will gladly, or unknowingly, pay more to have something that others can't afford. The Apple brand says something about them, like a Gucci purse, or designer jeans. This is why Apple Stores are often in shopping centers and malls.

Nice strategy four years ago. Not so much now. That paragraph should be on Apple's thin and stylish tombstone that costs twice as much as the exact same tombstone from everybody else. :(

I see some threads for a event March 24, anybody know what that is now that they have released the mini,iMac,MacPro today?

Now that I've read over all the details of these updates, I have to say that I'm very unimpressed. $2000AU for the base model iMac, when the former one used to be $1600AU doesn't make sense - $400 is quite a difference. What happened to the Apple that would introduce improved hardware at the same price?
If they don't get their act together then the 15" MacBook Pro I'm buying in a few weeks better last me a very, very long time.

Memory Controller?

Pardon my ignorance if this is obvious or has been discussed (if it has I missed it).

From what we know (DDR3 and Nvidia) would the new iMacs have the same memory architecture as the new laptops? That being an Nvidia controller to speed up the process and not require that extra travel distance that was present with the Intel solution of memory controlling?

Thanks,

Brice

I'm so glad I got my iMac last year for the holidays. Now that I see Apple keeping the same style and not that much of a change on hardware I feel relieved. I had this dilemma on taking advantage of the holidays (México) and the dollar still kind of weak or wait for the MWSF for a new iMac upgrade and let the world crisis take over the prices. Anyway... I switched and so far I'm happy.

GUYS!!!! HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT MINI's 5 USB?

Hey guys!

Have you thought about Mini's 5 USB?

What if you plug 4 external HDD?

Say, 4 Iomega MniMax 1TB.

Could you setup RAID under Disk Utility?

I don't know if this has been mentioned but a lot of people complained about not being able to hook up a 30" display to an iMac. Now since they have a mini displayport you can get the adapter and hook up. I can live with the price on the new mini but the low-end one IMO should be a little cheaper.

Boo falling Canadian dollar... the iMacs used to start at $1299, now it's $1399.

Mac Mini starting at $729?! Ouch.

recap. Photoshop experts know jack-all about hacked photos.

It wasn't so long ago that it was killing the dollar, but Apple didn't change prices then. Now it's the other way around, they are really P1SSING ME OFF!!

Wrong! They DID do an adjustment for the previously high Canadian $ vs the US $. Actually they did it 3x's from late 2007 December , and twice in 2008 even when the Canadian dollar was more than par with US$.

I'm really finding it hard to decide which machine I should first purchase - and it will have to be FAST. Mac Mini is a great upgrade for those on a serious budget - which I am but I also need a new LCD its fading on the top middle. However at $749CAN with only 1GB RAM its bitter sweet deal. The entry iMac 20" is pretty decent at 2GB, SuperDrive, and sweet design and 256MB Shared Video support on the 9400 which does awesome on the MB/MBP with same resolution. But on the 24" iMac entry - $200 more for double the HDD & double the RAM which can be done on the market for half the price makes it a dumb shoe in. I think the entry level iMac is decent yet expensive - 'I wanna punch the economy in the face' - the 24" should've started with teh 512MB video RAM on the 9400M + 9650 GT, leaving the top of the line with 1GB Radeon = THIS would've been smart! Now I pretty much will have to get the iMac 20", or the MB, or both 3mths apart. Either that or pickup a used PowerMac G5 1.6Ghz single for less than $600. Would the Intel perform better than that?

PS. I currently own now a 7yr Dell Optiplex GX260 - horribly old. My daughter wants it but I cannot shame her like that

PSS.
What the F***!!!! Apple ... are you guys taking the P***!!!
What swear word begins with the letter P and banned on this forum ?!?!??????????

A somewhat relevant question: is it still not possible to use the iMac as a display for my Xbox 360? Would be quite nice.

Someone who has new thread privileges should make this a new topic...

firewire800.jpg

The ENTIRE computer line now has firewire 800, but the macbook. Granted the Air doesn't but some would argue its really more like half a computer.

Nope. The only way to input video into the iMac would be through a DV bridge, which means standard-definition graphics and 0.25 seconds of button lag. Sad but true.

Edit: you can try the EyeTV, but to get the latency down means turning filters off, so the picture ends up looking bad.

Apple's attempt at getting the consumer to buy more expensive products (with the exception of the Mac Mini).
