Geeze-,nothing like muddling the waters. This new iPhone is the iPhone 9 in every way. It has nothing to do with the "SE" name it hijacked.
Gotta wonder what's going on in the minds of the chaps in the marketing dept.

The average person doesn't put this amount of time or thought into it. They could call it iPhone $399. The people getting confused seem to have to reconcile the name with best accepted marketing protocols. Your average guy is going to say wow did you see there is an SE same price as the older one but with a bigger screen?

Half the people on the news still say iPhone Ehks. What Apple calls something has never had any detrimental impact on sales. I would like to think there is somebody at Apple that reads MR. After reading the thread says let's throw those forums readers a complete loop and make a bigger SE.

The all new iPhone SE. Just like the old one but bigger.

3D touch is probably still there. Just deactivated. Easier/cheaper to just keep the same production line running.

Wow, that would suck. Why deactivate it if it's there? Having it in the phone but deactivated is the worst-of-both-worlds in terms of functionality and battery life.

As someone who played with a 4" iPhone SE recently and noticed how incredibly claustrophobic the display is and how hard it is to use most apps with so little information on the screen... How are so many people upset at the lack of a 4" screen?

Most apps aren't even built for even a 4.7" screen anymore!

I'm not the kind of person that lives and breathes by their phone. I make phone calls, send text messages, take photos and do web browsing. That's about it on a daily basis. I don't play games, watch movies, or do anything else that would require a large screen. Because of that, I'd love a tiny iPhone that is no bigger than it needs to be. The iPhone 4/5/SE fit that niche perfectly, but with it being discontinued with no real replacement, I'm stuck clinging to hardware that's only getting more outdated as time progresses.

$599 in Canada is kinda off, though. Based on the exchange it should be $559.

$40 may not sound like much but it makes a big impact on perception of cost.

I think there’s no night mode, that’s a bummer. Night mode would’ve been awesome.

Also are you sure the product (RED) has a black front? I’ve read the red has a white front glass just like the 7. Maybe it’s a typo on Apples site.

All the phones are black in front just the back color changes

So... pretty much as expected. A very fine phone for lots of people. A huge disappointment for many fans of the original SE models (which I only mention because Apple are inviting the comparison themselves by naming it the same).
You know, this bit is interesting. When the first SE came out, I think there were two very reasonable ways to look at it:

(1) "This is a return to the smaller sized phone!"
(2) "This is a use of older parts with newer internals that gives us a good phone at a cheaper price!"

When the SE was a one-off, it could have been either. And even if the intent was (2), at that time the older chassis they had was the 5S, so it coincidentally touched on (1) as well. But now we have a new SE, no longer a one-off. It's clear now that the SE line is meant to be a budget iPhone achieved by using the older chassis (along with already-existing assembly machinery).

Especially since this is marketed as an affordable phone. A "buffer" as some called it of around 10% is a lot.

That is disappointing, looks like the 'slightly thicker' rumours were wrong too, so presumably the battery is exactly the same. Might last a little longer under load with the A13 being more efficient, but that's not likely to show in day to day usage
Shame, the original SE was a big battery life jump over the 5S.

Does Canada impose a VAT and/or Provincial tax that's built into the price?

Why did they call it the same name as a previous different product ?

It is still a "Special Edition". Not an every year updated phone. It will have a different model designation. Apple does that on other products, identify it with the year.

Smaller? It’s been on rumor sites for months it has the body of an 8 and you’re still hoping for a smaller device?
Yet wanting the latest tech, the A13 for example but not Face-id.
Quarantaine sure got to you.

Hoping, yes. Expecting, no.

Apple could have redefined what a small size phone could be, alas, they had to milk the same device. Again.

I'm still confused as to why the recent iPhones support Wifi 6 but the new Macbooks don't.

Only thing I wanted from them, was an iPhone with the 4,7" form factor, an XR-like battery life and maybe a dual-ultrawide-cam or a single-cam with nightmode. Instead we got an iPhone 8 with an A13.

Still good for those who liked the iPhone 8 and had no problems with the rather crappy battery life.
