As someone who played with a 4" iPhone SE recently and noticed how incredibly claustrophobic the display is and how hard it is to use most apps with so little information on the screen... How are so many people upset at the lack of a 4" screen?

Most apps aren't even built for even a 4.7" screen anymore!

I have an SE and every app I use seems to work fine with my screen size, then again I don’t play games and whatnot.

Guess the price in Italy, folks?

€499 = $544 for 64GB model.

Way too expensive for what it is with that design AND that XR camera. There’s too much good value Android around here, and with nobody using iMessage on this side of the pond...

Not gonna fly in the EU.

Wonder if it will have the same LCD panel as the current 8's have, or will it have a smaller version of the LCD panel that the XR/11's use?

The OLED screens gave me headaches due to PWM, and the XR did for some reason as well (I think because of the brightness and size). MY hope is the SE will be effectively the same screen as the 8, which is fine.

No one cares about this except for people on places like macrumors. $399 for a smaller iphone with the latest processor and a good camera is a steal. They will sell tons of these.

If I didn't already have 1 more iPhones than lines I would be tempted. $400+tax more of an impulse buy than the higher end phones. Last year I found an inexpensive SE and 6s for special use cases. The 7+ I own but am not using will probably be given away at some point if my BIL's 6 dies, or my sister's SE dies.

Does this take portraits of stuff other than people?

Apparently not.

This is a really good value. Seems like the same camera lens as the 11/11 Pros and same chip, plus WiFi 6 and gigabyte cellular data. It provides TouchID and smaller screen size for those that want it. With the efficiency improvements of the A13 chip, I’m assuming the removal of 3D Touch, and the small screen size, I’m really interested in seeing what the battery life and speed is like.

Same battery life as the 8, which has the same battery life as the 7. 👎

And you would:
1. Have to use Android
2. Stop getting software updates after a year or two
Android is by far the most popular mobile OS but obviously people have different preferences. My point is that Apple charges way more for similar (or inferior) product than the competition.

A5x phones are Samsung's second tier phones (just under S series) and they get two OS version updates and security updates for three or more years (with most of the stuff - except for core OS - on Android being updated via Play Store indefinitely).

My apps work fine too...buuuuuuuuuut they sometimes do look like they expected a larger size: lots of controls and widgets that require just a little bit of scrolling.

In fact I get the sense that it's the same for Apple's apps. Every so often I want to access something on, say, the share sheet for example. If I want to forward a web page, and I click the share button, there is a title bar, a row of recently-used shares, and then a row of option icons (AirDrop, Messages, Mail, etc.). Then there are some other options below, like Find on Page and Add Bookmark and others...but none of them are accessible without scrolling. I just get the feeling that if Apple were still optimizing for a 4" screen they would have made the layout more efficient to get more options available up front.

I don't know, just a hunch, I could be all wrong about it.

No doubt, Apple can consider updating the original SE form factor instead of rehashing the iPhone 6 for 5 freaking times. Absolutely A NO BUY in 2020 without OLED!

They probably know best which form factor will generate more sales, the 5 for the fourth time or the 6 all over again. Besides, it’s really more like the 8 with the glass back, isn’t it - wireless charging was not a feature of the old 6/s/7 body designs.

I was probably going to upgrade from my 8 just for band 71 support (I’m on T-Mobile) but having portrait mode is a nice bonus. Instant buy.

Definitely the biggest letdown of the package... The SE I on the other hand was a jump over the 5S and was better than the 6S in some ways.

In Apple's Newsroom article, it mention's iPhone SE, then jumps right into iOS 13 talk about night mode in the sentence right after. This leads me to believe it would have the 11 camera.

On the compare section of Apple's website it clearly shows that the new SE doesn't have night mode.

Almost. It doesn't have the same camera lens as the 11's, it has the XR lens (so no Night Mode). They've announced that the battery life is similar to the 8, for better or worse. Still I agree, a great value and I will be ordering on on Friday!
