In Apple's Newsroom article, it mention's iPhone SE, then jumps right into iOS 13 talk about night mode in the sentence right after. This leads me to believe it would have the 11 camera.
Here's what it says about the SE camera

"iPhone SE features the best single-camera system ever in an iPhone with a 12-megapixel f/1.8 aperture Wide camera, and uses the image signal processor and Neural Engine of A13 Bionic to unlock even more benefits of computational photography, including Portrait mode, all six Portrait Lighting effects and Depth Control.5 Using machine learning and monocular depth estimation, iPhone SE also takes stunning Portraits with the front camera. Next-generation Smart HDR comes to iPhone SE, intelligently re-lighting recognized subjects in a frame for more natural-looking images with stunning highlight and shadow details."

It's nice to have a choice. For what it's worth, even Samsung's flagship S series phones are only slated to receive 2 years of support as well. iPhones may cost more, but Apple seems to offer significantly longer software support.

And hold their value way, way better than Android phones. Since the 4s I've been able to sell a almost year old iphone (couple of weeks) before the release of the new one for ~$100 off retail on eBay. Over in Android you're looking at 50% or more drop in value in that first year.

Mac's do the same thing versus PC's, not sure why (or with the iPhones) but they do.

I don't care about those 400$! I would have payed 2000$ for this:

Here's hoping for the iPhone 12 5.4 inch!

$599 in Canada is kinda off, though. Based on the exchange it should be $559.

$40 may not sound like much but it makes a big impact on perception of cost.
This is why:

"Starting iPhone SE pricing in Canada, if using a $1.41 exchange rate should be at $562 CAD for the $399 USD entry price. But Apple is using an exchange rate of $1.50, most likely hedging the Canadian dollar is only going to get worse during this COVID-19 pandemic economic climate. "

True I had forgotten how big a leap the A9 was over the A7.

I do think the original SE was a better deal - it had better battery life than the 5S that it replaced by a good margin, even bettering the 6S, had the flagship camera for March 2016 and the same RAM and Processor of the flagship iPhone of March 2016, while being sold cheaper than the 5S.

I agree. I think that’s why some people are bummed about the lack of main camera parity (allegedly- Rene Ritchie is claiming it’s the same as the 11 just without night mode; Prosser said it’s the XR camera. I prefer to believe Prosser because his supply chain contacts have been 100% accurate so far)

plus the lack of 3D touch module you’d think a thicker battery could be placed in there and the A13’s improved a efficiency they overall battery life could be longer (A9 played a big role in battery improvements) but seems to be same as per Apples comparison tools

way back machine shows the comparison tool for SE and 5s did show that Apple reported better battery for the SE 1st gen, which makes it having same iPhone 7/8 battery life a bit more disappointing

I’m sure people will notice real world differences but I think it will be less pronounced than the SE. i remember, that thing was a battery life beast.

iPhone SE compares poorly with competition in all regards but the processor. For example Samsung A51 has 6.5" super AMOLED screen, modern set of cameras (triple camera plus depth camera), under the screen fingerprint sensor and up to 8GB of RAM. It costs $350.
I'm an Android fan, but the Samsung Galaxy A51 is not even a contest.
- No IP rating.
- poor camera quality (triple means nothing, and depth camera is generally pointless)
- crappy exynos chip

For $399, the 2020 iPhone SE is a steal. No contest.

The only saving grace for Samsung A series, is that in many regions they are sold (like SE Asia), iPhone prices are horribly inflated, making these Samsung Galaxy A series to be decent. For example, in Singapore, the Galaxy A51 is sold at SGD $200 cheaper than the 2020 iPhone SE.

When the price is on par, the iPhone is the obvious winner.

on tech specs

"Power and Battery: Lasts about the same as iPhone 8"

my iPhone 8 wasn't ever amazing for battery life :/ can last a full day easy with business like usage but games and video tend to kill it quickly

USD 399,- is about the right price for a smartphone in 2020. I‘d be able to afford a much pricier iPhone, but I just don‘t want to. This SE does everything that I need for a reasonable price.

(at least the current exchange rate favours the new MacBook Air. It’s actually cheaper in Canada right now with taxes factored in especially on education pricing)

We could justify those savings towards the SE for any prospective dual purchasers lol

Argh, the silver / white one apparently has a black front (they dropped the white front), lame move Apple. Red looks better with the black front IMHO, but silver / white sure doesn't.

You can't replace the home button with just another white one, its tied to phone security chip, so this is stuck for most folks.

I actually quite like this white / black contrast.

I also think its got the XR camera with some of the A13 dependent features enabled. I reckon Apple would have toyed with using the iPhone 11 camera, just like they apparently toyed putting the A8 + iPhone 6 camera in the original SE. Shame.

How many of you would feel comfortable buying this or any new products coming out of China?

illl be waiting till the virus has officially gone or a vaccine is ready.
The viability of the virus once it leaves a human host is variable depending on the surface it is on - varying from a few hours up to 2-3 days (for plastic). Basically once the the virus dries up it can no longer infect you. Given the transportation time from China I don't think it coming from China is a concern. Depending on where you live though the delivery person may be your greatest risk of infection. To be cautious you could wipe down the packaging with a disinfectant wipe.
