Shame. I thought seeing haptic touch would mean it has better battery life cause the 3D Touch layer is gone but nope. “Lasts about the same as iPhone 8.” And here I thought this phone would get at least another half hour or one hour.🤷🏻‍♂️

Do people think this is a fair price? $400 sounds low compared to $700 or $1000.
Here in Canada, it’s still going to set you back $600 CDN.

Is there anything in the market that’s comparable? Pixel 4?

I would say the original, 4 and X are the best designs.

I was going to argue you on the basis that the 5 chassis was a better revision of the 4, but that would defeat my argument that the original and X were good because they were the first.

So going with that train of thought, the 3GS, SE, and 11 Pro are the best, since they're the best revisions of each design phase. And the "new" design of the X is just a revision of the 6, if you want to get down to it.

You'd figure with the advances made by the A13 it would have improved.
Yeah. Like... Apple pushed that hard didn’t they? The A13 is like 40% more power efficient or something like that? So why doesn’t the SE 2 have any battery life gains on the same battery? Is it that small? Or did they make it smaller again? We’ll find out soon.

The new SE will NOT be a hot seller until either/both COVID ends and consumers feel comfortable again dropping over a half-grand* on a “budget” iPhone. The specs are too weak to draw a virtual “line around the Apple store” like in times past. If this thing was released in Jan/Feb, different tune. My prediction: investors will force a drop in price after Q3 sales are released.

*—$400 phone plus tax, and don’t forget (optional) case, screen protector, AppleCare, storage upgrades.

Just an opinion. Be gentle! :)

for this price I would have expected a headphone jack.... is it worth the upgrade from an iPhone 6S?

I guess I would have to buy a few lighting to headphone jack adapters as well and hope any of them is any good

I’m happy for anyone who’s happy, but the more I think about this phone the more I have a hard time liking it. my main complaints are that:
1. Battery life is supposedly similar to the iPhone 8 so likely very meh compared to other cheaper Apple phones like the SE, Xr, and 11 (as well as the X, XS and 11 Pro)
2. You’re paying for a 2014 design in 2020 and Touch ID is about the only thing that has aged gracefully.
3. The price only looks good when stacked up against other iPhones MSRP. In the real world you can score a X, XR, or even a XS for a similar price if you’re patient (Android phones obviously live in a completely different world pricing wise so let’s just ignore that).

Again I’m not saying it’s a bad phone I’m sure it’s a fine phone, It just feels like a very low effort device from Apple deliberately under designed so as not to cannibalize sales of their other higher margin phones.

That said for those who miss TouchID (I sure do even if I like FaceID) this is the only way to get it with the latest SOC, at least until Apple figures out how to get under the screen touchID working (which they may or may not have given up on), so there’s that.

Ehh, too large. Basically iP8 internals, new A13, Xr camera.

I'm good with my Xs, thanks.

The fact you compare it to your XS says enough. This nearly 1/3 the cost. IIRC, I paid nearly $1500 for a 256GB X with Applecare+ at launch. I will be switching to the new SE and not looking back.
