Apple Announces New iPhone SE With 4.7-Inch Display, A13 Chip, and Touch ID, Starts at $399

That's a matter of opinion. I find my business 6S to be too large, and that is a detriment to me. Thus why I choose to keep my SE I as my main phone.
There are different perspectives to that of yours in the world.
We won’t let Apple get away with recycling the SE product name.
OK, 1st gen SE is real dead now. How about using older SE enclosure into newer iPod Touch? It might be bulkier for iPod but I prefer that’s way.
Well, this will be my plan B if the 12 5.4" does not convince me. In any case, I expected this to be slimmer, 7.3 is really noticeable compared to my 6,9" six.
But they haven't, it's the same product: an end-of-life design with internal updates close to flagship. Exactly the same thing as the original SE.
A little bit of a disappointment, I expected with removing 3D Touch it could reduce the thickness. But maybe it does have a larger battery. Guess we will find out when iFixit does their teardown. I have a 6, 6s, 7 and 8 and can feel the difference between the 4, but it isn't like the difference between those and the X or Xs or 11 Pro.
iPhone 11 Pro Max costs 1100 and has 4gb of ram. What makes you think that they’ll add 3gb to a 399 phone?
If this phone can do portrait mode, then the iPhone 8 software should be updated for older customers. Originally portrait mode came out with the iPhone 7 Plus because it had a dual camera (back in 2016). Now this phone, which has a single lens, same as iPhone 8 can do portraits? But the iPhone 8 can’t? (which has same chip as iPhone X)

in the US the highest rates of sales tax are at around 10% (correct me if I'm wrong), which would make the basic SE cost around $439 at checkout (in the worst case). If you compare this to Europe (where VAT is usually above 20%) and take into account the exchange rates, then the SE is noticeably cheaper in the US. Of course not so as to justify a trip to the US, but definitely worth a shot, if someone happens to be there. But this is nothing new and Apple has been always doing this. Curiously enough, where I live VAT amounts to 20% and if you detract it from the final price, it gives exactly 399 - but euros, not dollars.
Getting an iPhone in the US comes with an added benefit of the US iPhones not havinh any labels on the back, apart from the apple logo - European models still have the certification/recycling labels, which are an eyesore.
How ironic. An iPhone priced at a number I can stomach, in the design that bored me to death and pushed me to switch to Android 3 years ago. Hard pass.
The X can do portraits because of the telephoto lens, not software. The first software portraits were available on the Xr. Anyways, I'd also be curious, if it was possible to make it available on the 8. It's a bit like the bokeh control - my 2018 iPad Pro has it in the selfie camera in portrait mode, the X doesn't and I can't see any difference between the cameras of these two. Apparently that was the main 2018 feature.

Wishful thinking more than anything. The 8 had 2gb and the XR has 3gb. With any luck, the SE will have 3gb because of the A13’s memory requirements.
If I wanted a new iPhone with this design/form factor I would have bought it back in 2014 when the iPhone 6 came out. I didn't because it was too big then and it's still too big now.
Android is all I see in my future now. I don't care about price, I would pay $2000 for a small iPhone. Razor or Galaxy Flip in my near future. I was hoping for an SE with the same form factor as the iPod touch.
Although I'm sure this phone will sell moderately well, Apple missed the mark here. iPhone nano anyone? And don't tell me that's what the watch is for.... you can't reply to email, text or take pictures on a watch.

And don't forget the weight: iPhone 6 (4.55 ounces, 129 g), new SE (5.22 ounces, 148 grams).

Or just a professional who needs their phone to just be a messaging device. I doubt most people need the latest iPhone, or use them to their full potential. I run my own business, and i'm upgrading to this from an iPhone 6s+. I'm trading screen size for a much better camera and modern specs. if I want to watch a movie, i've got an iPad or a tv or an iMac for that. I think a lot of people like having the coolest bells and whistles because it's cool, not because it increases their productivity or is something they need. My brother is huge in a particular field. Makes very good money. He uses an iPhone 8 and doesn't think about it. Because he's using his AirPods, and not standing around a water cooler or impressing somebody shallow at a bar.
bluetooth headphones have increased dramatically in quality. It's not going to give you the same quality as sitting in a room with $1000 cans, but if your on a walk, the gym, or a bus or train, pair these with a pair of Sony or Bose or Apple headphones and you're going to have a very good audio experience.
It varies from person to person. Some people just like to have the latest and greatest devices. On the bright side, this should take up less space in your pocket than your 6s+.
