Wow, this thread grew fast.
I haven't read most of the comments yet, but it appears you can get a 256GB model for about $549. That really begs the question of what exactly you're paying for with the iPhone 11 Pro. OLED + Better Camera + Stainless Steel design = double the price.
I mean, it’s not that simple
Beyond manufacturing processes including custom design of 11 Pro vs more recycled parts on the SE2,
11 Pro has more ram, U1 chip, different SoC design, custom and larger battery, completely different R&D costs (5th gen of iPhone 6 design vs 3rd gen iPhone X design), more premium materials, more cameras, more expensive front facing camera, face ID sensors, Completely different IP rating and classification (even amongst ip68 products few have a rated 4m depth), even the fast charger and usb c to lightning cable gets factored into The entire spectrum of markup, cost, savings etc
stainless steel is more expensive than aluminum, and the Second gen XDR OLED panel is not just a recycled X or XS panel, Its more energy efficient, can go up to 1200 nits (which is insane for a smartphone), And has a superior contrast ratio to highlight the HDR content more. It doesn’t matter if it’s worth it or not, I can’t tell any difference between it and my X, but it is even more specialized and costs more for Apple than the 4.7” hd retina that is spec wise identical to the iPhone 8, and design wise identical to the iPhone 6
Plus Apple wraps the OLED panel to lose the chin, something which itself is More expensive To do - which is why most android phones retain a chin. Just makes no cost sense but for Apple it’s part of their design so it is A necessary Cost
And that’s just parts, never mind everything else in development leading up to supply chain and how the lower SE cost was absorbed by every other product developed since the iPhone 6. So much more than just parts go into a phones retail price.
The point? It’s no where near as simple as you think when retail prices are considered
