Shame, the original SE was a big battery life jump over the 5S.

not since iOS 13 dropped. My 5s on 12 has far superior battery life compared to my SE. Both batteries were replaced a year ago. 13 just sucks the life out of devices Apple no longer sells. Purely coincidence I'm sure 😂

oh yeah agreed, my SE has nosedived with iOS 13 in battery, I meant back in 2016, what the SE first came out.

Or just a professional who needs their phone to just be a messaging device. I doubt most people need the latest iPhone, or use them to their full potential. I run my own business, and i'm upgrading to this from an iPhone 6s+. I'm trading screen size for a much better camera and modern specs. if I want to watch a movie, i've got an iPad or a tv or an iMac for that. I think a lot of people like having the coolest bells and whistles because it's cool, not because it increases their productivity or is something they need. My brother is huge in a particular field. Makes very good money. He uses an iPhone 8 and doesn't think about it. Because he's using his AirPods, and not standing around a water cooler or impressing somebody shallow at a bar.
If my 11 pro was fully paid off I’d strongly consider selling it for an SE and pocketing the change. I bought the highest end model knowing that may be the route I went. I don’t use social media so the camera differences aren’t major for me, the upgrade from a 6s is huge regardless.

Decisions need to be made...🤔

Wow, this thread grew fast.

I haven't read most of the comments yet, but it appears you can get a 256GB model for about $549. That really begs the question of what exactly you're paying for with the iPhone 11 Pro. OLED + Better Camera + Stainless Steel design = double the price.

This is like an iPhone 6s without a headphone jack. It's not an SE so no pennies for you, Apple.

The original SE was the previous body style with up-to-date internals...and so is this new SE. I don't see why most people can't realize this logic. The SE was never meant to be the "small" phone, it just coincidentally is their smallest phone on offer at the time in both SE iterations.

Yes, to me, but not just me. If the general public really wanted a tiny phone with a tiny screen, they would still be buying them and Apple would still be making them. But they don’t. And haven’t for quite a while. The 4” SE seemed to satisfy a small subset of people, part of whom wanted a smaller than 4.7” phone and part who wanted a cheaper phone. It would be interesting to see Apple’s breakdown of how many SE’s they actually sold during from March 2016-September 2018, because I suspect it is way lower than SE acolytes would care to accept as reality.

The 4” screen size had its day. I’ve been on this train since the iPhone 4, had a 5, a 6 a 6s Plus and now have an XR. I just pulled my old iPhone 5 out of the drawer and it’s like a Shrinky Dink compared to my iPhone XR.The times have changed and the limited screen of the 4/5/5s/SE is now a detriment and not an advantage. Hence, its dead and buried as it should be.
I'm about to buy another old SE...and I already have a deadstock one ready to go when the current one fails.

I agree. I like everything about this phone but the battery life. Not that it is bad, but was expecting a substantial increase to the iPhone 8. Maybe they did this on purpose to entice people that value battery life to move up to the iPhone 11, or maybe not since that's a big price jump. I think they might be able to capture some of those customers with this tactic, very Apple of them.

Apple budget phone is always a 6 month old SOC aka A13 and 2-3 year old components! Nice new old RED color. That is what I going to be pre-ordering! I going be ordering the 128GB RAM.

So... this $400 phone with its A13 chip is more powerful than the $800 iPad Pro personal computer replacement?

I'm not the kind of person that lives and breathes by their phone. I make phone calls, send text messages, take photos and do web browsing. That's about it on a daily basis. I don't play games, watch movies, or do anything else that would require a large screen. Because of that, I'd love a tiny iPhone that is no bigger than it needs to be. The iPhone 4/5/SE fit that niche perfectly, but with it being discontinued with no real replacement, I'm stuck clinging to hardware that's only getting more outdated as time progresses.

And this is the #1 reason Apple haven't made a small SE2 and instead make phones too big to comfortably use:

Bigger phone screens = more time spent using device

The correlation is significant: https://www.androidheadlines.com/20...rrelates-to-smartphone-usage-infographic.html

If you own a phone with a big screen, statistically you will use it more. The more you use it (play games, take photos, watch movies) the more money Apple is likely to make from you (through subscriptions, purchases, apps etc etc).

Damn, a all day battery would of killed it for me. I used to have a iPhone 8, the battery life sucks on it. A “need” purchase with the new SE is the Apple smart battery case.

Oh you have benchmarked it already? Or are we just looking at the CPU name and guess that 1 up means more powerful any time?

Edit: According to Geekbench that iPad should lead in multi core and metal performance - but in single core the phone might be faster. Should be good performance in either case.

A12X/Z is more powerful than the A13 for pro work and sustained performance

and the graphics on the A12X/Z are better as well

I mean, it’s not that simple

Beyond manufacturing processes including custom design of 11 Pro vs more recycled parts on the SE2,

11 Pro has more ram, U1 chip, different SoC design, custom and larger battery, completely different R&D costs (5th gen of iPhone 6 design vs 3rd gen iPhone X design), more premium materials, more cameras, more expensive front facing camera, face ID sensors, Completely different IP rating and classification (even amongst ip68 products few have a rated 4m depth), even the fast charger and usb c to lightning cable gets factored into The entire spectrum of markup, cost, savings etc

stainless steel is more expensive than aluminum, and the Second gen XDR OLED panel is not just a recycled X or XS panel, Its more energy efficient, can go up to 1200 nits (which is insane for a smartphone), And has a superior contrast ratio to highlight the HDR content more. It doesn’t matter if it’s worth it or not, I can’t tell any difference between it and my X, but it is even more specialized and costs more for Apple than the 4.7” hd retina that is spec wise identical to the iPhone 8, and design wise identical to the iPhone 6

Plus Apple wraps the OLED panel to lose the chin, something which itself is More expensive To do - which is why most android phones retain a chin. Just makes no cost sense but for Apple it’s part of their design so it is A necessary Cost

And that’s just parts, never mind everything else in development leading up to supply chain and how the lower SE cost was absorbed by every other product developed since the iPhone 6. So much more than just parts go into a phones retail price.

The point? It’s no where near as simple as you think when retail prices are considered

Everything is as expected. It’s an iPhone 8 with a new chip. Now we can move on to the iPhone 12.
