Awesome!

Just after reading all of the specs, internally it would work well as a backup camera as well for some filmmakers.

Imagine if they updated the iPod Touch to the same internals minus the Cellular chip for $100 less.

Just some foreshadowing on the next SE seeing now there's two SE's for a pattern, I'm thinking the current iPhone 11 will be the next SE probably in spring 2022 with an A15. Or will they drag this SE out for longer like the first one? I can't see them dragging this one out that long with a non edge-to-edge screen.

How I miss Touch ID on my iPhone. Face ID sucks especially during the mask-wearing times.

Boy am I glad I kept my SE from 2017 even with my XS. It's still at 93% battery health! If we have to move to masks in my country, which we may, I'm setting the SE up for Apple Pay.

I have to return the XS in October per my lease plan so I will probably move back to the SE full-time before then if masks happen.

So, no night mode?
If so, what was the limitation for this? Camera is the same as iPhone11 main, and the same processor...

Camera is the same as iPhone11 main
That is still not proven story. Could be from Xr which is without night mode. Teardown will show us the truth.
Or if it is from 11, then could be software blocking of the feature to differentiate from higher tier 11.

I never complained about the audio quality, which you should have seen before throwing insults.
It took a good number of back-and-forth replies before you even mentioned pairing or usability, and even when you did mention it, you still claimed that quality hasn't improved (which it has) before mentioning anything about pairing.

You know, it took Apple removing the jack for anyone to use Bluetooth headphones. That choice has been around since before the iPhone 1, and basically only geeks used it because it sucked. Hasn't really gotten better since, people just have fewer choices now.
I'm pretty sure it literally has gotten better, both in terms of quality, and battery use.
Quality, don't think so. Battery usage got better with v4, but that was still a while ago. Those are nerd stats anyway. The problems for most people are cost and usability. The pairing process is still flaky and overly complicated

Pairing ought to just work, and it doesn't. You get a bad experience if either end is not Apple-made

You get a bad experience if either end is a cheap POS. But you also get a bad experience with cheap POS wired headphones - its just that the bad experience is **** sound.

The W1 chip only helps if you buy Apple headphones and a new iPhone (or Mac?)
Any Apple or Beats bluetooth headphones, paired to any Mac or iOS device running Sierra/iOS10 or later. So any phone from the last 7 1/2 years, or Mac from the last decade.

Hahaha, Apple giveth, and Apple taketh away.

So sorry, fans of the original SE.

I love the new iPhone frankenStEin.

Yes, I realise Frankenstein was not the monster.

€489 for the 64gb means it's about $532 which is about 33% more expensive.
I don't get it. Do they think Europeans are somehow prepared to pay that much more for a phone?
It makes it a very expensive purchase for a kid to take to school.
I've been hanging on as my son's phone was stolen a couple of months back but now if I buy it I feel like I'm encouraging Apple to keep gouging us on price.
I thought it would be €399 but €489 is really scandalous.

This is like an iPhone 6s without a headphone jack. It's not an SE so no pennies for you, Apple.

Exactly, the form factor is wrong and the customers have no interest to upgrade from the iPhone 8 due to an insignificant effort of 8S.

I assume the normal person can't tell the difference between this and the iPhone 8. Except that it's 50 bucks cheaper now. In normal use the chip makes no difference unless you're playing games or advanced apps.

The 8S won't be that bad if it at least upgrades to OLED and it's now the most underwhelming update.

You do realize prices in the US are exclusive of tax and are inclusive in Europe including a relatively high VAT of likely about 25%. Government enforced warranties in the EU and other consumer protection policies also have costs. So if it’s 33% more, that seems about right. Particularly as companies often like to have a bit of a pad for currency fluctuations.

iPhone SE 256GB Product (RED) is the one, if I was in the market for an SE that’s the one I’d get.

Great job by Apple, this thing should sell pretty well

Would be good to see the battery capacity of this, with the 3D Touch layer gone, it may mean they fitted a larger battery than the iPhone 8 had. iPhone 8 had a puny 1821mAh battery, if this has something like 2500mAh-3000mAh it will be incredible.

Aluminium is more expensive than stainless steel:

https://agmetalminer.com/metal-prices/stainless-steel/ - currently $1.16/lb
https://agmetalminer.com/metal-prices/aluminum/ - currently $1.52/lb

That price is for 304 Stainless, which is a cheap industrial grade. The iPhone X etc are described as "Surgical Stainless Steel" which would be 316L grade, and costs at least double what 304 costs, and much more than the price of aluminium.

Also, because stainless is heavier, you can make a lot less phones from a kg (or lb) of stainless than you can of aluminium. But the big difference is that stainless steel is much more difficult to machine and polish, so the processing costs are likely the biggest difference rather than the raw material.

But stainless steel can be polished to a mirror finish, and because it's much harder, it doesn't scratch and dent the way aluminium does. The aluminium bodies on phones are relatively soft and mark easily if dropped or stored with keys etc.

Bluetooth, wifi, etc, being enforced by Apple and others (followers) doesn't make them new technology either.

No one claimed they’re new because Apple is embracing it. But compared to the 3.5mm analogue audio plug, Bluetooth audio is new technology.

Didn't most people buy the SE because they like having a smaller iPhone? I don't see this one catching on. My wife has no desire to upgrade her SE after asking me how big this one was.

Between a possible tiny reduction in bezels and a 5.4" iPhone 11s/12 size coming, I think we're going to wait and see what that's all about. Seems like that might only be a little bit bigger than the SE since the 5.8" iPhone is only slightly bigger than the new SE.

The 5G Smartphone will be coming down at a price range of $399 and there is no reason to buy another iteration of iPhone 8 with modest updates that also lack of U1 chip, 3D touch sensor and OLED panel.
