Using iPhone SE instead of iPhone 9 is Apple's way of publicly acknowledging that they will never release a smaller iPhone (like the original iPhone SE).

iPhone SE compares poorly with competition in all regards but the processor. For example Samsung A51 has 6.5" super AMOLED screen, modern set of cameras (triple camera plus depth camera), under the screen fingerprint sensor and up to 8GB of RAM. It costs $350.

And you would:
1. Have to use Android
2. Stop getting software updates after a year or two

In East Asia, females are generally shorter but love bigger phones, as they make their face look smaller.

They can use a 11pro in that case. There is no benefit to getting this over an 11pro, both are far too large. Might as well get my fiancé a iPad mini he can keep in his backpack.

Except this phone runs iOS which is the biggest advantage.

No Night mode.

So I was wrong about the camera. I was sure they’ll put in a flagship main sensor, like they did with the OG SE, and like Google does with Pixel 3a/4a, not holding back features. But they decided to go with a 2018 iPhone XR camera in addition to using 2014 iPhone 6 design...

This will probably still sell well but personally I am absolutely not interested.

I had thought I’d get this to replace my 7, which turns 3 today, but given the Xr camera and mediocre battery life, I’ll keep waiting. It’s a decent value, but I was hoping for more in terms of both camera and battery.

I’d be shocked if this doesn’t have 3 GB RAM.

This is the end of an era folks. The era of 2 GB iDevices has ended. The new minimum is 3 GB RAM now.

The iPod touch doesn’t count. :p
I for one welcome our new 3GB overlords...

Great price in U.S. however can’t say the same for EU and other countries.
for example in Italy it starts from 500€, in Turkey it costs 5299 TRY which is roughly 770$. This is out of mind. Apple can’t hook non-Apple customers with these crazy prices out of the U.S.

I'd bet that it's because the newer camera has dimensions or shape that won't fit into the iPhone 8 case.

Too big and too heavy. We really need smaller and lighter phones, not everyone is 5' 11"
Agreed. I’m on an 11 Pro that I’d sell in a heartbeat if this was just a tad smaller. I upgraded from the same sized 6s and I’d love something a little smaller than that to be honest.

400 US is already about 565 CAD right now. I don’t expect our Canadian currency to gain any value in the near future so they probably put a little buffer just in case.
Does that include VAT? The US price is without (local) tax.

This new SE won't be as good as the XS or 11 in terms of number of lenses, but they're touting it as "the best iPhone camera" so that's awesome to hear.

They said it is "Best Single-Camera System", keyword being system. It is not best individual camera but it is the best of all the 1 lens iPhone (i.e is better than the XR but worse than 11).
