Top notch, I am so tired of people complaining and not trying something that totally mitigates the problem
Agreed. I also don’t understand how people dislike more screen area, it makes no sense.
If one really wants to, they can make the menu bar all black. But really, Apple basically pushed the screen to the top edge apart from around the camera, giving users more usable space by placing the menu bar basically where there was a thick, black, ugly bezel for over 10 years and people complain, I don’t get it. Just like on iPhone, a notched display is far more usable than no display because of a giant forehead.

Barely 3 months in and all bets are placed I see. What exactly was better in last years first 3 months?
Exactly, M4 wipes the floor of the M3. Granted the MBP came out In October but really they are 25 laptops since they will be available until October of this year.

Glad I didn't pay for one of those "deals" last month for the M3 MBA. Suddenly most of those deals for the 16/256 M3 and M2 MBA models don't look so good.

BTW, in Canada, as others have mentioned, they've increased the price of the memory upgrades. It's now CA$300 to upgrade from 16/256 to 16/512, although that does come with an - unnecessary -- SoC upgrade.

Since my wife only uses about 110 GB, I may stick with the 16/256... to be purchased on the edu store this summer when the edu promotion starts.

EDIT:

Maybe that upgrade to 512 GB isn't quite so bad after all. I mean it's still damn expensive, but besides the included SoC upgrade, the upgrade to 512 GB also includes the 35 W dual USB-C power adapter or 70 W power adapter. I was planning to get the dual 35 W anyway. It would have been $30 otherwise.

Sucks that there won't be a Nano Texture option.
There is... for the MacBook Pro. Anyone who was expecting it for the MBA this time around was fooling themselves. In fact, I wouldn't expect it for the M5 MBA either.

More complaining, top notch is barely perceptible in lost real estate. If you haven’t tried it then maybe you should. This is what you get pretty sure Apple is trying to figure out a way around this for next gen displays. If you don’t like it go buy a windows machine.

Its the chip swap we all knew it would be ... plus a Center Stage camera

And the continuation of horrendous component upgrade price gouging

This is the value of owning your own OS - you don't have to compete on price.

If you want a laptop that runs MacOS with 32GB of RAM, Apple will be more than happy to provide one for you for a hefty price.

And while I agree with you that these component upgrades are stupidly expensive, they are somewhat offset by the fact that Macs tend to last for a very long time

Why? It's on the iMac - why not make the option available for the Air? I don't need a Pro, but it sure would be nice to use an Air in brighter environments.

My main notch complaint, in my M4 MBP time in December, was that I couldn't seem to use the space around the notch as normal, non menu bar, screen area outside of full screen mode

Does TopNotch allow that somehow?

What a great computer! They are going to sell millions and millions of these. A wonderful laptop for home, office and college.

When the M2 MBA was released over 2.5 years ago, people screamed because the price was $200 higher than the sub-$1,000 price point. I pointed out that was par for the course. New MBA models, with a new form factor, are almost always released at a higher price point. Eventually, the price drifts down to the magical $999 as production tooling and supply chain achieve economies of scale. Sure enough. Here we are.

For a chip swap and "finally something in the Studio line" that's all way overdue?

If the innovation were any slower they'd be moving in reverse
Yeah I hate how Apple always has these flashy marketing videos to release a minor update.
Oh, wait, it’s a f press release. Who expects innovation from a press release. It’s update, not upgrade season. Except for the iPhone 16e but that’s not really either.

We have to see them at the stores to find out the difference between space grey and midnight. I’m not sure if midnight is a little blue tinted tone or not.
If it’s anything like the midnight color of the Apple Watch, I can attest it’s 97 black with the mildest, darkest blue available.

Used to Anti-glare was standard on all Apple laptops. Then one year they gave the free option of a Glossy display. And then it was Glossy displays for all. I'm glad Anti-glare is back as Nano-texturing, but I wish it was way cheaper and available on all devices.

It blacks out across the whole screen so you don’t notice the notch. It can’t do anything when icons get close to the notch. I have bartender and not sure if it can space things around the notch so you don’t have wonky behavior.

What changed from the M3 to suddenly make it a "runaway success"?

Or do you just mean they will continue to sell lots of them?
Agree. They already selll a lot of MBAs. But, some folks were waiting for processor update. They recently increased the base memory, which made it unnecessary to pay a premium for more. Also, center stage is a nice feature for video calls. But the biggie is the price drop. This will secure the MBA as the go to computer for a huge market of everyday users.

I agree it would be nice for some people, but it just doesn't make much sense to me from a marketecture perspective.
