As a professional photographer, this was one of the worst announcements from Apple in recent history IMO. I'm so glad that I have the last generation MacBook Pro, because it actually has a trackpad button and a matte screen and doesn't look horrid. When I show my pictures to clients I want the computer to actually look good and show the pictures without glare or reflections, these new MacBook Pros do neither. I have a very hard time fathoming why Apple would do this to their professional customers, it doesn't make sense. I really do hope that Apple sees the error of their ways, although I don't think they will...

im pretty sure its people like you that led them to keep the previous models smart move on their part if you are using it for photographs...you wont need the graphics card update...so go buy one the macbook pros are Entertainment machines now and thats all there is to it :)

It's like the wilderness years all over again. Apple have lost their touch -- I learned that when I bought Aperture 2. The software has gotten sloppy; the machines have gotten ugly. Again, Mac has become little more than an expensive alternative to PC -- too expensive for my pocket. But of course, the company is no longer 'Apple Computers'.

FWIW, increasing the brightness will lower the D-max whilst maintaining the contrast but you are increasing the brightness! If you're a photographer, you want to maintain a calibrated system. Unless there's a company out there that sells super bleached paper, whose prints are that bright?

Personally, I'm more excited about Windows 7 than the future of Mac.
Goodbye we won't miss you.

But with a matte display, the background isn't in full focus before your eyes like a mirror. The light is diffused, and while it does create a bright spot, your eyes can still focus on what's on the display and not what's in the room behind you.

OMG this is pointless...glossy has started ruling entertainment laptops and thats what these are...pro is a name...i think apple may be the only one sane right now they know the market and they have raped it of money over and over they know what they are doin

Now you need to buy video-out adapter for MBPs?

That's ridiculous. The price remained the same, and less accessories included. And they said their profit margin is going to decrease? Seriously?:eek::eek:

People cry that they have to change their eight year old laptop, they change it and they cry some, unfortunately they can't please everybody, they have to do what's good for them and their company.

Ah, yes, the ultimate and final pseudo argument to not cater to anyone but the broadest lowest common denominator. Let's all shop at wall mart and Ikea.

Hm...

  1. Apple courts the creative users to develop a loyal user base
  2. Apple designs great pro-level products that are overpriced to consumers, but a godsend to Pros
  3. Apple realizes that this quality can be marketed to consumers as well
  4. Apple starts to screw over their pro users through neglect, functional reductions, and reduced choices
  5. Pro Users are now dependant on OS X, and probably have tens of millions of cumulative dollars invested in software licenses for the OS X platform.
  6. What the hell are we supposed to do now that Apple is shafting us?

Get a hood for your monitor or turn off the light switch?

Actually, hmm, Apple is actually helping "save the environment" by convincing people to turn off unnecessary lights! haha

Go ahead, if we had dudes like you running Apple, they will be bankrupt listening to the crap you guys spew on these forums.

Manufacturing costs ballooned with this roll-out. It's not easy or cheap to do what they are doing.

LAME UPDATE.....

The best thing they talked about was the Air processing and HD boosts and the new Cinema Display... :)

The new notebooks screw over like 75% of Apple buyers who want a larger screen size, appropriate processing power, and other BASIC features that most other higher end notebooks have. I also hate the new two-tone look of the laptops. It works on the iMac, but this looks cheap.

NO 17" UPGRADE, ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

change has allways met opposition...20 or so people voicing there opinons on a website...these are good notebooks and thats that

No, not really. I'm one of "those guys" who kept them afloat when times were hard for them. Most likely before you were out of your diapers.

I had a 17" inch MacBook Pro with a glossy screen. It had so many problems, Apple finally replaced with with a new version but sent me the matte screen mistake. I'm not a pro photographer, but I really do prefer the matte screen. That's why. Warranty is up on this thing in six month or so. I may sell it now so I can get another 17" with a matter screen. I really don't like the glossy and I've tried them both. The "change the angle of screen" comment at the keynote was insulting to one's intelligence. Like that always works...

If I have full light behind me on my current matte 15" MacBook Pro, I get very annoyed with the non-existing contrast..,. no way I can use a this matte LCD with more light behind me than in front of me.
And if I do get into a nice working position, and a colleague shows me his 15 glossy MBP next to my matte, it simply looks far, far better. Really.

I for one am not too exited about the new pro models.
I think apple did a great job with the new macbooks but the pro's aren't that special...

Sure, they do look absoluty beautiful and the new trackpad seems to be great but I don't see where the 'pro' part of the macbook pro comes in.

As I work with video for a living, the first thing I do not understand is the step back to only one firewire port. Why not include two FW800 ports? Sure there are hubs to solve the problem, but I don't want to be dragging them around everytime I have to edit on location. And the lack of choice between matte and glossy is going to keep away a lot of graphic designers and artists.

On top of that, If I'm going to shell out a thousand dollars more for a pro machine I want there to be at least some difference in looks than just a few more inches in size. I think apple is seriously decreasing the value of it's pro line by making the macbook models look so very similar.

In short: I won't be switching from my current 15" pro to a new mbp anytime soon unless the specs are seriously going to change or the 17" machine is going to be more impressive....

And I'm very, very curious about the heat production in these new models....

That's not what I said. I said that his _argument_ pseudo as it was, was the ultimate argument for lowest common denominator goods. And I extended that to the notion that if we were to go buy his argument, we would all be shopping at walmart and ikea. Or even cheaper crappier places.

and now they dont need you anymore :) they have a big brand new market...they are not arrogant they play off the arrogance of others...they have been walking a fine line brilliantly and well...they are for consumers now

75% of apple buyers??? If they already bought then obviously a larger screen wasn't enough to keep them away. As apple said their #1 laptop is the 13.3" MB. Also, 75% of their buyers rarely, if ever, max out their laptops for extended periods of time. Yes, Apple leaves out features that other manufacturers deem as "basic" but they've always done that - nothing new here. Well, outside of leaving out the FW port on the MB, that's pretty crappy...

Yep... that'll bring back FW 400. And what, i'm going to get a hood for a notebook?

Get a blanket for your brain - it's clearly frozen.

oh...ok :) i think apple is better than ikea...we have to remember that microsoft is the lowest common denominator...and we can never stoop so low:cool::apple:
