I agree with you for the most part, but I disagree on one fundamental issue:
I DO think that Apple owes the professionals that served as their core market for ages and ages something - a bit of consideration, and at least the friggin' option - even if it's expensive - to get our machines configured the way we need them in order to work effectively. All of us that have invested in OS X as a software platform, and followed the pied piper down the yellow brick road into macland, have done so as a calculated decision, and voted with our dollars. When what we've voted for turns around and snubs us, we've got every right to be angry.
They have a monopoly on OS X hardware, and to act irresponsibly towards a large segment of your market in that circumstance is beyond shooting yourself in the foot - it's the beginnings of cutting your own legs out from under you.
