Really?

I haven't been keeping up with updates since I finally got my MBP, so I was surprised to learn of the updates announced today.

I must say that I'm not impressed at all. Firstly, the look of the machines is horrible. The black face and the black keys on the aluminum is not attractive, nor do I think it looks professional the way the all-aluminum versions do.

Secondly, while I did choose a glossy screen, I'm completely behind those users who want, and even need for professional reasons, a matte option. I don't understand their blatant disregard for what appears to be a large sector of their consumer base.

Lastly, it feels to me that something is lacking in the announcement. The online store still offers the old white MacBook and the 17" hasnt' been "updated", just bumped or refreshed.

For those happy with the changes, I'm happy for you, but if I were in the market I would be sorely disappointed.

Im dissapointed. I was hoping for a quad core imac.

Then you should pay more attention. Apple even came out and said this event was all about laptops in their invitation. Nobody was expecting updated imacs.

Oh no !! glossy only ???

I was about to upgrade my macbook pro, but with the glossy screen, and the new design (which I think looks ugly in compare to the old ones) I guess I'm gonna stick to my old macbook pro. :(

even the cinema displays are glossy

missing firewire

I am a little disappointed in the missing firewire on the MB. There has been lots of time and effort in iLife/iMovie but now getting video off of you video camera will be impossible for the average consumer unless you have a MBPro or iMac. With so many notebooks being sold now, this really makes no sense.

Nice updates overall. People have been begging for enclosure updates, and we got them. I'm just glad they waited until they had a good reason to update, and I think the new structure was a good reason.

Hate to see FW going away though-- I really hate USB for anything keyboards...

I don't care about prices right now because quite frankly I can afford and mac but I wanted better specs. All they did was update the look and downgrade the specs.

Truly disappointed

It's like the wilderness years all over again. Apple have lost their touch -- I learned that when I bought Aperture 2. The software has gotten sloppy; the machines have gotten ugly. Again, Mac has become little more than an expensive alternative to PC -- too expensive for my pocket. But of course, the company is no longer 'Apple Computers'.

FWIW, increasing the brightness will lower the D-max whilst maintaining the contrast but you are increasing the brightness! If you're a photographer, you want to maintain a calibrated system. Unless there's a company out there that sells super bleached paper, whose prints are that bright?

Personally, I'm more excited about Windows 7 than the future of Mac.

Apple stocks are going down. 6 points already since the event!

That's not the full picture. Apple was already down 2-3 before the event started, and the broader markets started going down at the same time.

If you compare the AAPL chart and the dow chart, they are practically identical.

Im dissapointed. I was hoping for a quad core imac.
Both Asus and Lenovo has come out with a quad core laptop
with intels new quad core mobile cpu's, why not imac ??

Totally was hoping the same thing.
Lenovo came out with the wacom built in, etc...cool.
(Hey I have used macs since the golden days... lol )

But these updates, while interesting, are not what I consider pro from apple.
No 17" - I mean the same defective video card on 'recall' is still in it?
Not 3GHz (its there), whats up?

Consumers like glossy monitors...well steve, pros want matte (at least some want the option.) I used to work on CRTs and worshipped when the matte screens came out.

No blu ray...again steve said when the market picks up...but its the pros who will drive the market...not unless of course there is not the option, and as Phil pointed out they want people to use itunes. (Its not about licenses for blue ray, its about steve pushing his vision of what he wants consumers and now pros to be doing.)

Hey apple has a good thing, but their making mistakes...another company is lurking ready to pounce on the pro market. ;)
From within the kingdom comes the person who will take the kings place when he becomes incompetent. :)

Peace

Hm...buy or not buy?

I've been waiting to upgrade for the longest time. I like how the macbook now offers better video graphics support. Right now, my main complaint is that I cannot play any games on my current first gen macbook. I am not a serious gamers or anything, I just want the option of playing some 3d games (spore/oblivion.../ STAR CRAFT II...etc). I want to see how well the Geforce 9400M chip performs first.
I bought a radeon 4870 last week because it was on sale, but I am probably going to return it and get the new macbook.

Hm...hard decisions have to be made...what do you all think of my situatioN?

It's been up and down. I was getting ready to hit the "buy" button when it went down. Tried again...same thing and went to the "we'll be back" screen.

Maybe it's running on Apple hardware, maybe Steve should order some real servers from Dell or HP....

biggest let down ever, mbp basically just got a new look and besides that nothing too spectacular. I had been holding on to a $1500 apple gift card for over six months for this. Now I think I might try to trade it on craigslist for something that's decent. Why the hell did they get rid of the dvi port? Oh I know why, just so you'll have to buy the god damn adapter for an extra $30 from them every tell you lose or brake it. Also why make a hi-res display but no blu ray, oh I know they want to ripp you a new ******* by getting "hd-movies" on ****** iTunes. Why is it that crapple can put out such garbage and us loyal customers always get jammed where the sun don't shine. Im not even going to get started on the gloss screen only deal, but where does tjat guy get the nerve to say you can always just turn the laptop around. How about i turn my buiseness aroumd to some company that really wants to fullfill the customers needs and not just thier own pockets. Urgh, Man I'm so frustrated with this so called update. Just had to vent, please excuse me if I offended anyone.

Hahaha, take this, stupid fart Sony & the whole illegal MPAA/RIAA-mob and your illegal, useless crap DRestrictionM in Blu-Ray:

Jobs: “Blu-ray is a bag of hurt. I don’t mean from the consumer point of view. It’s great to watch movies, but the licensing is so complex. We’re waiting until things settle down, and waiting until Blu-ray takes off before we burden our customers with the cost of licensing.”

YESSS! Middle finger to Hollywood and the parasites!
Bwahahahaha!

:cool::cool::cool:

is the 9600M(MBP) HUGE DIFFERENCE OVER 9400M (MB)??

2.4GHZ MB 9400M 250GB 13inch = $1599
vs
2.4GHZ MB PRO 9600M 250GB 15inch = $2099

I am looking for a PC to be able to do a bit of Photoshop and be able to play new games and it looks like the MAC BOOK alone is good enough for that
or would you say go for the MB PRO?!?

Have people forgotten that designers used to work with Glass (reflective) CRT Monitors back in the day. ;)

Yes, and had to buy anti-glare screens to be able to do proper design work on them and to avoid eye strain.

The glossy screens are a HUGE step back.

I admit.... I am willing to pay more for an apple because apple computers are better than PC's. I am willing to pay up to twice as much. But 3 times as much????

Sorry, apple you are missing the boat.

The economy is struggling, gas is ridiculously expensive, home energy costs have gone through the rough (pun intended), it's nearly impossible to get low interest credit, yet apple refuses to release products that come within the scope of reasonable in regard to pricing.

I am a Mac guy through and through....

I own several iMac's, a Mac laptop, a couple iPods and an iPhone, but times are tough, and I admit it grows harder to stay on board with this pricing.

Hahahaha, good one.
PM me if you want to get rid of your gift card. ;)
