Awesome MacBook Graphics!

the pricing his a huge drawback for me with the macbooks

the processor has almost been downgraded!

I think the processor speeds are fine. What I'm excited about is that FINALLY the graphics make me contemplate getting a MacBook again.. 5x better graphics! Finally some decent gaming on a 13.3 mac..:D

This sucks.

The Macbook has no firewire, and no expresscard slot to add one?

For those who want a smaller laptop or can't afford the MBP, this really blows. This new Macbook is worthless...

I'm utterly disappointed. I had dreamed for months of pairing a small MB with my Apogee Duet audio interface for portable recording. How could they do this?

I'm in the same boat. This is teh suck. This is a nut-kick for so many users.

Well all I really want now is:

A 30" LED Cinema Display
A Mac Pro that can drive via displayport rather than DVI.

I find it rather odd that they introduced a 24" display, and kept all their existing displays, not even a price change! Bah.

[Posted from my glossy MBP without a problem, amazing. Quit complaining about it people]

Not buying. Seriously who needs the new features more than options? I'd rather have the graphics than that display. Full glass display increases strength? yea and increases glare 10000000 fold. No thanks apple. Pretty dumb move imho.

no 17inch redesign yet they update the HD in it. well that takes away my hope.

I was waiting to buy a 17" mbp, but with the little updates to it, I'm going to pass.

i have been waiting patiently for a while for this update, as i want a new 17" MBP.

the fact that the 17" was not updated (but with some small upgrades so they could say they at least did something) makes me furious. why the hell did they upgrade the 15" without the 17"?

this is crap. how much longer am i going to need to wait for the 17"? maybe i should just go get a 17" hackintosh for about half the price.

and glossy screens? have the apple engineers never been in a room with an open window while they have had their laptop open?

grr...

During today's key note Tim Cook was asked Q: What's up with the 17-inch?
A: Tim: It's being refreshed today as well.

Soooo, where is the MacBook Pro 17 refresh?

The manufacturing process will be applied to the 17" MB Pro; unfortunately you'll have to wait until January for the new look.

is the 9600M(MBP) HUGE DIFFERENCE OVER 9400M (MB)??

2.4GHZ MB 9400M 250GB 13inch = $1599
vs
2.4GHZ MB PRO 9600M 250GB 15inch = $2099

I am looking for a PC to be able to do a bit of Photoshop and be able to play new games and it looks like the MAC BOOK alone is good enough for that
or would you say go for the MB PRO?!?

Save your money and get the MB or a desk machine with a matte monitor.

Firewire

Everyone;s complaining about no macbook firewire but what the heck...

Macbook PRO has firewire 800, but where's the 400????

HOW THE HECK DO YOU CONNECT A VIDEO CAMERA?

WHy would they put 800? Is there a workaround for this?

Seems like an obvious question that wasnt asked at the session

I dont care what arguments or sales pitch is given. I'm not a photographer and I absolutely will not use a glossy screen. I'm very disappointed.

That's exactly why I said the $1599 MB is the best value in the line-up.

Terrible. Truly awful. I'm a huge fan of Apple products most of the time, but I'm not a blindfolded fan. When Apple comes out with something that sucks in my opinion, then I call them on it. And this is one of those times.

Apple, you totally blew it.

Although I want Apple to do well in general, I hope the sales of this MBP are atrocious so that Apple will learn that they have to serve the consumer's desires.

So the boundary between the MB and MPB has now been blurred.

What is the difference now been the MB and MPB, for me the MBP just seems like a larger MB.

After seeing the designs in from Apple, I don't think they're too bad, the bezel isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think it's certainly different styling from the current MPB and it certain looks to be more aimed towards the consumer, maybe Apple has been shifting a lot more MPB's in the last 6 - 12 months.

Regarding the screen, for me it's not really a issue as I have a glossy MBP but I still can't see the logic in apple not having matte as an option.

And as for the price... the top end MPB is now £150 more expensive than the old one! Apple above everything else you're not going to make inroads into the mass market with these skyhigh prices.

I have to say I'm rather dismayed at the thought that they're moving towards having trackpads with no physical button! I guess they reckon that most people tap to click, but I'm definitely not one of them; I disabled the tap-to-click function minutes after I first really tried to use the trackpad (I kept accidentally clicking when I was just repositioning my fingers, and at other times I wanted to click, but had to tap much harder)! Whereas with just the trackpad button, I can click when I want, and use the track area just for tracking. Frankly, I hope it goes the way of the 3gen nano form factor, unless they have managed to configure the taps MUCH better than on previous laptops (ie not just adding new movements)

I think from what I could gather from the video that the entire track pad pushes down, so there is a physical pushing down one has to do. look at the video and you'll wee what I mean.

Screen size. Firewire.
and its 1999 not 2099.
Also the MBP has both graphics chips.

Here is the key...people are not the same.
Some people need matte - the option should be there. (I personally get headaches from glossy monitors.)

Peace

800 us backwards compatible, all you need is an adapter.

Just great! I wait for the announcement of the new & improved Macbook Pro line and this is what I get?!! A stupid glossy screen that is good for nothing unless you want your World of Warcraft avatar to be REALLY bright and have lotsa contrast but even worse...no Firewire 400 port?!! What the high-holy-Hell are they thinking of?!! For me to shoot tethered (I'm a photographer), without a firewire 400 port my only option is to sell my $30000 Leaf back and upgrade to the same model with a Firewire 800 port...that ain't gonna effing happen! And don't say, "Oh, but you can get an ExpressCard Firewire card...when you're working with these extremely finicky digital backs, interrupted or non-native ports ALWAYS cause problems, if they work at all! Hell, I can't even plug in to the native Firewire 400 ports on the front of my G5's because of internal voltage fluctuations between the front and back ports! Yeah...I'm gonna kick up about $3500 for a top-level laptop only to find out it won't power the only thing I plan to use it for, my digital back!

If I were a violent person and I lived closer to Cupertino, there are a few Apple designers who would be in fear of their safety right about now!

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

Is the new 128GB SSD going to fetch the same premium that the 64GB version did? Just curious about the price of this upgrade. It is nice that now the SSD is comparable in size to the HDD version.

has anyone noticed that the pictures of the side MBP posted on engadget look like the ports are ressesed into the side to much? as some things might not be able to plug in like 1st gen iPhone?

Edit: nevermind if you compare the ports to a current MBP they are the same

wow, glossy only?
do they want to intentionally kill the sales on the MBP?

i guess they do, look at those prices...

oh wait, it has new gestures... LOL

who is doing all the marketing here? microsoft?

im so glad i have the latest in MBP productions....

LOL

I bet you it sells well ;)

I can understand some people need a matte display, but have those same people used one of the glossy displays in an MBP? I thought I 'needed' one too, but after trying (reluctantly) a glossy display I bought a glossy MBP nearly 2 years ago and would never get a matte now. Sure I'm not a hardcore designer like some of you, but I am launching a web project and need a good screen. I have never been able to use a laptop outside as the light on it makes it impossible to see the screen, I can do just fine with this display though. If you have looked and hate fine, but if you just think you won't like it but have never used one in anger take a look (unless you have a legitimate need for matte rather than just a bit of what you fancy).

Lots of hate for the new machines with people disappointed about the new line up. I wonder if its because they knew it all already? I think this is a big release personally, unless you start from scratch and redesign the laptop I'm not sure what more you could get apart from a feature here or there. And if they DID start again chances are it would not work, there are only so many shapes, sizes and material you can go for, yes it doesn't look totally new, but thats a bit like saying your TV doesn't look very different to the next one, it might have an extra lump or bump but ultimately unless they go obscure for the sake of it there isn't much more they can do. When you have a product that sells well and works well why rip it up and start again? Porsche demonstrate that, the 911 is not exactly a new design, its been around a very long time and simply refreshed over and over.

Personally all I want is a fast machine that does the job well, I don't go for gimmicks and tricks, the trackpad looks good but I think I will most likely not use the different gestures, I have a trackpad that I can do several things on now but I still use it the same way I always did with previous PowerBooks, I do like the idea of glass though as it might be really accurate and easy to use, but thats about it. Bigger hard drives, longer battery life, better graphics, faster processors, thats what does it for me. My brother has a Windows laptop he got last month, its got buttons and knobs all over it, fingerprint recognition for access, media player knobs and switches, but the fingerprint recognition rarely works and he struggles to get into his own machine, the media player takes ages to start up and shuts off often, the display is horrible....

Depends what you want, but some people wouldn't be happy whatever Apple released.
