and for all you old macbook pro's out there we didn't forget you
so we give you a bonus..... you CAN"T use our brand new displays

and there is more....you know that one more thing

no seriously WTF apple i hope you're stocks go down mojo bad so you can take a lesson in that :apple:

and i think a hole lot of loyal customers agree

UK prices are hideously expensive- have they not noticed what is going on economy wise- no one has any money available at the moment and they introduce a laptop that has a starting point of nearly £1000! They are lovely, but people are not going to switch when most people pay about 500 quid for a windows laptop- I was expecting price drops, not rises- bad move!

I think Apple are giving up on Firewire. Someday, it will be removed from the MacBook Pro as well.
Just take a look at the back of the new Cinema Display... 3 x USB only.

TBH, I don't think many use their FW 400 ports on the current Cinema Displays other than connecting the FW iSIght.
Using a FW 400 HUB is not really recommended for external Hard Disks or cameras.
Besides, it seems this new 24" Display is more for acting like some sort of pseudo-docking station... ;)
And it must save a couple of $$$ to leave out the FireWire.

I can't imagine Apple losing FireWire on the other products. Apple has far too many uses for it. I bet we will see FW3200 before Apple gets rid of FireWire completely....

..... I hope.

apple store

the store has been down a while i think that they made some huge mistakes on the us site you can look at the uk one. uk site list back lit on 2.4 not 2.0

If I were a violent person and I lived closer to Cupertino, there are a few Apple designers who would be in fear of their safety right about now!

 BT in NYC

Sorry but thats pathetic, you need a reality check. Don't buy it, last I heard Apple was not forcing everyone to buy a new machine.

i have been waiting patiently for a while for this update, as i want a new 17" MBP.

the fact that the 17" was not updated (but with some small upgrades so they could say they at least did something) makes me furious. why the hell did they upgrade the 15" without the 17"?

this is crap. how much longer am i going to need to wait for the 17"? maybe i should just go get a 17" hackintosh for about half the price.

and glossy screens? have the apple engineers never been in a room with an open window while they have had their laptop open?

grr...
Back in 2003 though Apple released a 12'' & 17'' Powerbook G4, they left the 15'' Powerbook G4 the old titanium one for a while and just upt the CPU to 1Ghz. Maybe they have done it because of that lol

Who feels totally confident the nvidia GPU issue has been cleared up?
Lets hope they have.
But nice you mentioned it, because it appears this is the ONE thing they did NOT update in the 17 inch laptop. What a joke when they said it was updated today as well. (Graphics card gives problem, aint not good.) ;)

Peace

and yes, I want blu ray...and a 19" laptop. :)

the reality check is that some people need it for their business and workflow.
Some sooner than others. I have hung on to this powerbook 667mhz as long as I could...its literally on its last legs...or hanging by a thread.

The 17" was what I was waiting for...and it appears Nvidias old bad graphics card is still in there...what an update. lol

Peace

The updates are beautiful :)

For all the Prosumers b*tching; if you're not doing your work with at least a 24" IPS and Wacom you're missing the boat. So who gives a f*** if the display is glossy while you look at pr0n and sip lattes at Starbucks!

No Firewire on Macbook...Ethernet adapter to Firewire.

I am on my MBA at this moment and I adore the glossy screen and the chicklet keyboard. In fact, it doesn't occur to me that this is glossy until it's mentioned on the forums.

So now the "pro" laptop looks like an iMac.

And I'll hang on to my matte 17" until they get serious and admit they are joking with a HD-only update (and only glossy for 17" too?)..

Yeah, me too - glossy displays are a bad joke so I'll hang on to my matte 17" a bit longer...

Only glossy screens? Sucks! Biggest mistake ever!
Goodbye Apple... I'll buy a Pro-computer anywhere else.
And rename the Macbook Pro into MB Consumer or something.

Lets hope they have.

Jason Chen:

Q: What’s the status of the 17-inch MacBook Pro.
A: It’s also being refreshed.

I think they mean it is still in the works. Appleinsider said they are getting that next. Something about problems in the lab.

Huge Dissapointment

Wow..Apple really dropped the ball on this Notebook update. Forcing people to have a glossy screen is a big mistake. They're beginning to blur the line too much between consumers and pros. Seems like they're forgetting their professional user base in favor of the consumer level and education market.:confused::confused:

I think the Australia store is about the only one they have right. Shipping within 1-3 business days, both option with the backlit

Pro = Glossy Con

I am a photo professional and I have to say that I am extremely disappointed with Apple's decision to go "glossy only" for their whole display lineup.
Jobs' clarification that the glass motif would continue throughout the product lines and that there would be no matte option (during the Q&A) is especially frustrating.

The glossy screen presents several problems, not only in terms of a headache-inducing, eye-crippling glare, but in terms of colour rendition. In my experience, the saturation of the glossy screens is boosted in such a way that it makes colour editing difficult.

We have to make it clear to Apple that glossy screens are inappropriate for professional users. This is a stretch, and I understand that Apple is a company and makes its decisions on bases other than user feedback, but pressures stemming from user (i refrain from saying 'consumer') discussion have influenced changes.

If that is unfruitful (which I expect), we may see a blooming of after market glossy to matte screen cover options, although I am not certain whether this will influence the colour rendition problems associated with the glossy screen.

These are my opinions and you are free to disagree with them as you like. As disappointed as I am with the screen, it is unarguable that the new Macbook Pros represent an evolution within a company (and industry) that is continuously trying to reinvent itself. Either we try to make it clear that in this case, the old is better, or we reinvent ourselves to adapt, by choosing other products (non-Apple) or aftermarket solutions.

This part of the Q&A really struck a chord with me. To summarize from the keynote:

“Will the new MacBook cannibalize MacBook Pro Sales?”
-”No. Pros buy MacBook Pros.”

“Are you going to offer a matte screen?”
-”No. We’ll offset reflection with more brightness - consumers love it.”

OK, so consumers will love their glossy screen on their MacBook. Good for them. But what about the pros who buy the MacBook Pros as answered in the first question? We are not consumers - we are pros! Don’t give pros the things consumers like in your pro products. That’s why you have two product lines in the first place Apple. Terrible.

Exactly. That "matter of fact" response doesn't really give any specific reasons why they expect the pros to continue to by the MacBook Pro. Sounds like a cop-out to me.

Sorry to say that but FOR THAT ****, they celebrate whole events ? All I see is another method to sell some **** to stupid people. New Cinema Display just for new mac notebooks....sorry are you apple guys kidding me ?

Removable Battery?

Anyone know if the new MacBook has a removable/replaceable battery? I've been tying to check specs at the Apple Store but it's been down for the past hour or so...

Dude... chill... it's just a computer.

indeed!

If you are that important designer or video-editor, get in front of your iMac..

I am a webdesigner, graphical designer and I edit movies with FInal Cut, Premiere Pro and effects in After effects.
Indeed, I need a Firewire for my videos to load in.
I'm going to love the new graphcards in the MBP's and the screen won't dissapoint me.
Just get used to it! Sleep a night and think about it again!
Don't just blame apple.
They want to do good for everyone, what's not possible.
Maybe there'll come an update within 3 months.
Or you by a hub for Firewire's...
