Any of those phrases you put in quotes, are any of them false?
They are meaningless at this point - what company releases a new, inferior version of the product? Rather than these trite phrases, why not actually describe beneficial improvements?

This is fun, and it's throwing me off by starting at night. I'm genuinely intrigued.

(It's dinner/bath/story/bedtime for the kiddos around my house, so I'll be watching the recording the next day...after I've already read all about it on MR. :))

8 p.m. Eastern going up against Monday Night Football?

Either Tim is not a Raiders or Lions fan… or he's signed a deal for the rights to the XFL!

That's funny, but a really good point. Like I said, intriguing event...

I'll throw in a random prediction just for fun.

"Scary Fast" will also tie into the "One More Thing" at the end...

Something not Mac related..

That "One More Thing"?

Apple acquiring the broadcast rights to the NASCAR Cup Series for AppleTV+.

Boom. Confetti.

Ben Kennedy and Dale Jr join Tim on stage and show off some of what they're cooking up in terms of exclusive new content for both AppleTV+ and Apple Fitness+.

Jr. announces that Season 3 of "Lost Speedways" will be an AppleTV exclusive.

Jr also announces that a documentary based on his book, "Racing to the Finish: My Story" will also be an AppleTV+ exclusive.

Tim announces that they've partnered with an animation studio to bring Dale Jr's children books to life for AppleTV.

At least one of Apple's employees joins on stage wearing an old Dale Jr t-shirt and asks for an autograph while Tim and Ben are discussing the NASCAR 2024 broadcast schedule.

Given that Apple titled the event "Scary Fast"—which is pretty on-the-nose for them; as you know, their event titles are typically cryptic—I'm guessing we'll be seeing M3's. And perhaps even M3's with boosted clocks.

Too early for 14-16" MacBook Pro. Probably it is M3 for base Mac mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar.

Huh. I really did not expect this.

I don't need scary fast speed. These chips are already fast. Battery life is also already great. Please bring them up to parity regarding IO (with Intel) and I would be happy. No single external monitor limitation on the M3 would be a meaningful improvement. Increasing the M3 Pro to supporting 4 external monitors (from 2) would be an improvement. A meaningless % increase in a geek bench score is not needed.

So we keep talking about updating the 24" iMac, which, yes, I think that is going to happen, but what about the release of a larger iMac with M3 Pro/Max? Definitely a possibility...
Anything is possible. Personally I'd be surprised if the "large iMac" appeared - but who knows?

...but, in the Mac line, the MacBook Air and MacBook Pros are the money - plus, one likely advantage of M3 is better battery life - so I think it is unlikely that the M3 would go to the iMac until the laptops had got it.

I don't know why he gets as much hate as he does?

Sure, his predictions are not perfect and he only rarely makes specific predictions several months in advance.

But can anyone in here point to anyone who makes more frequent and accurate predications than Mark?

Who has a better average than Gurman?

That was pathetic of him. He was throwing shi at the wall to see what sticks. Anyone can do that. He said there would not be an event and he also said there would be an event. Whatever happened he’d be “correct”.
I think you nailed the "Industry analyst" business model there :)

One thing that leaves me with a scintilla of doubt - have there been any M3 benchmark results "accidentally" posted? That usually seems to be a precursor of a new processor.

I do believe they want to update the laptops as soon as possible since we hear they are not selling that well at the moment. But, in general, it makes more sense for them to put the fast chips in a desktop machine first to sell what they can of it and build anticipation for the laptops. Some people will consider buying a desktop where they wouldn’t before. That said, I think we’ll see at least one laptop update here.

Why would the mini not come out sooner?
I wasn't too sure about that one, they could launch Mini with M3 on October 30th and the Mini with M3 Pro in March with MB Pros or in June with Studios and Pros, but this would be a weird range with M3 being as powerful as the M2 Pro for 6 months+. I think they'll launch them both next year instead. It's not like people are desperate for more power in their Minis.

It’s actually his attitude, he never says “I was wrong” and if you read his “newsletter” it’s all about him and “I said this and that”.

What happened to “there wont be anymore apple events this year”? These “analysts” are truly ______ fill in the blank

I have an audacious idea:

  • iMac with M3, M3 Pro, eventually bigger size with max and maybe even ultra chips.
  • MacBook Pro 13", redesigned body, M3 chip. This could fill the gap between the $1100 15" Air and the $2000 14" pro. The Air would stick with the last gen chip.
This would give a good reason to get the 13" pro, as there is none right now, and give a good price gradient. Both of these devices have been rumored, and they are fairly low-selling (mostly because apple has neglected them), which would be good for the low-yield, supply limited M3 chip.

Also, everyone's begging for a larger iMac, and knowing Apple, they could just take the lazy route and give the iMacs M2 chips, and make a larger size. But that would have been predicted as screen panels are usually leaked before any other rumors come out.

We'll see. The potential for this is massive, but you never know. Apple is Apple, after all.
