Apple can't put out M2 Macs with that event name. So basically M3 iMac confirmed. I'm pumped.

Scary fast "now with Thunderbolt 5"?
Scary fast "free holiday delivery"?
Scary fast M2 vs. the M1 or old Intels it replaces?
Scary fast M2 Pro option vs. the M1 or old Intels?
Scary fast recorded event vs. the typical much longer ones because there isn't that much to launch?

I'd be cautious about reading "confirmed" into 2 marketing words. It could mean a LOT of things.

BUT, that shared, I'll hope right with you. If it's ready, bring it on. Big progress > little progress.

Gurman heavily implying we will get

M3 24” iMac
New 14/16 MacBook Pros, with M3 variant chips

If so, would be strange to not have updated MacBook Airs, Studios, Minis, etc at the same time.

Actually it makes sense to me. Could push someone to get a higher end MBPro when they'd otherwise get the Air if they really want an M3 now.

I still think it's M2 only for iMac. I cannot see them launching a new M3. 1. This year. 2. In an iMac. I know what the rumors have been saying. It just doesn't track, historically.
I agree except I wouldn't expect a whole choreographed event for a simple spec bump like that. This might be M2 iMac, and M2 Pro new 27" iMac or M2 Ultra in a 30" iMac Pro or something like that.

I see no reason for Apple to announce and launch the M3 right now. The M2 Pro/Ultra are not even a year old - indeed the Ultra less than a half-year old. The M2 variants still offer materially better performance in most respects than competitor equivalents. Even the M1 products are still leaps better than anything else at the same price point. There is no law that says Apple has to announce a new generation of chips annually. And with Mac sales down overall due to longer consumer upgrade cycles and most people having recently upgraded to an M1 or M2 product, firing the M3 cannon prematurely would be a waste.

Apple today announced its second fall event of 2023, with the online event set to be held on Monday, October 30 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Apple's October event will be about the Mac, and the company is expected to refresh several Macs in the lineup. Apple's Events website features an Apple logo on a black background that morphs into the Mac Finder icon, confirming the event's Mac focus.

As with prior events, this October event will be prerecorded, and it will be held online only with no in-person component.

Mac rumors have been confusing in recent months, but there are several possibilities. We could see a refreshed version of the 24-inch iMac, as that machine is still using an M1 Apple silicon chip. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said not to expect a MacBook Air refresh, but the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 14-inch MacBook Pro, and 16-inch MacBook Pro could potentially get new chips.

It is not clear if the refresh will focus on new M3-series chips, but depending on what's being overhauled, we could see the iMac and the MacBook Pro models adopting the 3-nanometer M3 chip lineup.

Given the confusion surrounding the Mac lineup right now, this is one of the more mysterious events we've had, though we are likely to hear more as October 30 approaches.

Apple plans to stream the event live on its website, on YouTube, and through the Apple TV app. For those unable to watch, MacRumors will be providing full event coverage on MacRumors.com and the MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

Mark Gurman prediction happened while Kuo opposite prediction failed. This is the exciting moment for those who have been waiting for upgrading their Mac. Awesome 🤩 🎉🎊😊

Here we go with the tutti-fruitti, phoney-baloney, plastic banana, good time rock-n-roll Apple PR hype, using pre-recorded videos with over-the-top, hyperbolic scripts and “most powerful,” “most efficient,” “best ever,” etc. nonsense (as if Apple would release an inferior product). It’s like Apple has to over-sell because they don’t believe in their own products.
Don't forget "magical" & "wonderful" and "we just know your going to love it"

Yes, Apple is the only company ever to hype their markets up during announcements with buzz words.

Now that I am thinking about it more and seeing they last updated the MacBook Air in July 2022. I am now thinking we see updates to all the base M3 products. Definitely M3 as they are having an event, not M2.

Remember:

M1 launched with the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini
M2 launched with MacBook Air, MacBook Pro (w/Touchbar)
M3 would launch with iMac, MacBook Pro (w/Touchbar) and possibly new MacBook Air. No Mac mini as it carries the Pro variant now. MacBook Air has always been updated with a new M processor.

Then we get a spring updates to MacBook Pro 14" and 16", Mac mini, then Mac Studio/Pro at WWDC.

Most Likely at this event:

M3 iMac
M3 MacBook Pro (w/TouchBar)
M3 MacBook Airs (The 13" is due for an upgrade since July 2022, would be weird if they just updated the 13", so 15" will be updated as well.)

Spring 2024

M3 Pro Mac Mini
M3 Pro/Max MacBook Pro 14" and 16"

WWDC 2024

M3 Max and Ultra Mac Studio
M3 Ultra Mac Pro
M3 Pro/Max iMac 30" (wildcard)
This is what I thought a few months back and still do as it makes a lot of sense.

Hmm, just saw Mark Gurmans tweets.

So definitely M3 iMac, MacBook Pro(w/Touchbar), M3 Pro/Max MacBook Pro 14"/16", maybe M3 MacBook Airs but doubtful.

Apple definitely ditching their normal routine when it comes to updating base models first for M3.

You're probably right, but why release the M2 15" Air this summer if they were going to update it a few months later?

Either this was a last minute decision or they were just desperate to unload those M2 chips...

The event could be any amount of time, not automatically 2 hours.

There are several rumors of:
  • new iMac
  • new iPad Mini
  • new iPad
if iMac "bigger" might surprise, that could lead to a new ASD too to match the size. That's up to 5 "big" things to talk about right there. Give each 10-15 minutes and you likely have more than a 1-hour event.

Based on timing since last update, there are plausible expectations of:
  • new AirPods Max
  • maybe new AirPods Pro
  • HomePod mini (colors)?
There are obvious wants for Lightning accessories to go USB-C.

After the pushback on the new iPhone cases, maybe some newer, new iPhone cases that look like their manufacturing cost was more than about $3?

This latter batch of things could easily be ideal options to update for holiday gift giving.

So what's the "scary fast"? new iMac- even with M2- if compared in nice marketing charts & tables against the M1 version and the Intel versions. Selectively pick out where M2 excels (or maybe M2 PRO vs. M1 base exhibits) and then hammer home the line: "Now all of our Macs use our scary fast, latest & greatest technology: Order now!"

But I'll hope with everyone else that an avalanche of M3 is about to hit. Bring on the bigger leaps instead of the minor steps. If it's all ready and all sources of rumors have missed all the signs of it being ready, bring on major surprises against a backdrop of a completely information-secure supply chain for the first time ever.
I never saw an event under 30 min....Nobody said 2 hours...i said 10 minutes...
Again, there will not be an M2 iMac...lets stop here until Monday...even KUO now says it will be M3 family
If it were an M2 imac, Apple would have release it with the apple pencil or even earlier this year through an press release. Gurman said M3 iMac, no M2 iMac months ago

Given that there is a dedicated event I think the chances are high that the entire Mac lineup gets the M3 simultaneously… or something else is in the cards. Otherwise they won't have much to talk about to make it a dedicated event in the first place.
That would be amazing and a needed change from the mess there is right now.

New iPads could be coming as well, they were predicted to come out last week but makes sense that they were not released since this event was planned a week later. But they'd probably be pretty underwhelming, only new chips and stuff.

Love how we're getting an evening event, which coincides with the theme of "Scary Fast" and Halloween just around the corner. I'm really excited to see what they come up with; hopefully the long-awaited M3 iMac and some iPads.
Since they are all just videos it no longer matters when they release them
