Yep, classic Tim Cook to sell a more powerful computer with a larger screen so people will upgrade from the less powerful computer with a smaller screen.

Indeed, this has always been part of Apple's sales strategy. For example, the 15-inch MacBook Pro always had more powerful CPU options than the 13-inch, and featured a proper dedicated GPU, something which the smaller Pro usually lacked. This parity in hardware power has only come about with the release of the Apple Silicon Macs.

Or just as likely:

Apple M1 (new architecture) = Huge performance boost
Apple M2 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple M3 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple M4 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple M5 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple M6 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple M7 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple M8 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple M9 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple Mx1 (new architecture) = Huge performance boost
Apple Mx2 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
Apple Mx3 (same architecture) = Small performance boost
etc.
Yeah, folks forget that whatever Apple releases will be the fastest Mac of that type EVER. As long as it runs FCP and other apps faster than the prior Mac, it really doesn’t matter if it does it 20% or 40% better. Apple knows this and are likely focused on steady incremental progress (or, that’s what they’ve shown so far). M3 will likely confirm this pattern.

Do you guys think that new Magic keyboards and trackpads/mice with USB-C charging will be announced? I bought a keyboard and a trackpad not 14 days ago and I am thinking of returning them just in case...

This maybe nothing, but Best Buy has sold through their supply of M3 16" Macbook Pros.

any hope for an updated MagSafe battery pack and Magsafe Duo?

I will be very, very surprised if Apple does not make the switch on the peripherals. Will it happen at this event? If they introduce a new iMac then I will expect them to make the switch. If this event is just MBP then maybe not yet.

(Oh noes... I wrote "maybe"... am I turning in a Gurman?????)

While many credit/blame the EU for forcing Apple to switch the iPhone to USB-C, I think it was clear no one else in the industry wanted the Lightning connection.

According to that Gurman, the transition away from Lightning is supposed to be accomplished by 2025.

Plus, Apple had already said they’d keep lightning for 10 years. It’s not like they were against the timeline they defined for themselves.

The odd thing about this Apple Event is the time, not the potential product.

5pm is close of business for Wall Street. Could they be making an announcement that could affect their stock?

Stock split? Acquisition?

Interesting! Acquisition of Disney has been rumored for a long time now - perhaps unlikely but certainly not out of the question.

Somehow I doubt anything out of the ordinary. The simplest explanation in my mind is that they are testing out alternative times to increase presentation viewership. Could just be a run of the mill M3 update on the MBP, and iMac 24.

I am VERY MUCH hoping for an iMac 27" replacement, ideally classified as an iMac Pro and perhaps even bump display to 30-32".

there are rumors saying they moved the time to overlap with business hours in Japan, presumably because they were announcing something with a Japanese company (probably gaming-related)

All of Nintendo’s IP on Apple devices boom!
j/k :)

And Gurman also said that macOS Sonoma likely wouldn’t release until October, it released in September. Another wrong prediction from Mark Gurman, I’m starting to think a pair of dice might be better at predicting than he is.

To be fair it was right at the very end of September and Apple has been releasing macOS in October for the last couple of years. If Apple had needed one more RC it would easily have been well into October before the production release. People on this forum give him a lot of **** but a lot of it is not deserved. He gives the rumor community exactly what it wants. He has more data than most people on this forum and likely gets fed some wrong information frequently to try and plug leaks.

Let's see how he fairs with his claims on the core counts for the M3 Max. The August claim was 16 CPU/40 GPU in at least one configuration.

Look at what time it represents in East Asia...
It may be that Apple is trying to be less US-centric and we will see more of this, maybe next one as a time optimized for Europe?

There are rumors that the time is specifically meant to be over Japan business hours, presumably because they're announcing something with a Japanese company
