as then Apple capitalises on all the Snapdragon publicity
Apple will get all the publicity regardless of anything Qualcomm does.

I bet 99/100 people on this planet don't even know "Qualcomm" exists, but at least 1/3 people know Apple Computer exists.

That seems illogical as M3 Max and Pro would more than likely have to follow basic M3 as business wise it would be foolish to come out with anything other than a base M3 chip as a starter with the prospect of even faster devices keeping Apple's options open.

But from a production perspective, there might be capacity for the Pro/Max chip but not the base M3, which surely has higher demand. Plus Apple can charge more for that Pro/Max chip, since they go into higher end devices. Once manufacturing costs on 3nm fabrication come down, Apple can release the base M3, with more competitive pricing - something particularly important for an entry level device.

We see thar now with the iPhone Pro getting the newest chip and the base iPhone getting last years chip.

It depends. The first M3 Macs will probably drive sales, and only offering higher end and thus more expensive machines initially could be a smart financial move from Apple.

I’ve been pretty chill about new macs and upgrades since I bought the first M1 Air. I could actually edit (short) 8K projects from my Red camera on that thing. I could view and check 8K footage (not in full res, but still) on location. I got a MBP after that for more ports and rendering power, and that’s a long while ago. I probably wont upgrade to M3, as for me my M1 is pretty decent still.
The M1 MBA remains a fantastic device as are the current MBPs.

It's tempting to retire my 2017 MBP 13". I spent money on it last year (new keyboard and battery) so it's still useful if a bit slow sometimes. But I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen.

I found the M2s disappointing with the slow SSD and small heatsink, maybe Apple will correct those parts with the M3.

Why is it foolish? If you are in the market for a new computer now and may get an Air but instead have to pay extra to get the Pro so you can have an M3 and not a last gen cpu, apple just upsold you with ease.

Good point. I would actually prefer virtualized though, because I don't think Apple would ever offer a hybrid OS for iPad that provides all the freedom that a Mac does. However, I would take being able to run Mac App Store apps on iPad (assuming the full window and pointing device experience is included) over nothing at all any day.
Unless they are running in the full MacOS, you probably wont get many Mac apps on the iPad for the same reason that there aren't many iOS apps running on the Mac; developers don't want to support them on iPadOS with no additional revenue streams to support that effort. Would you be willing to buy all your apps again?

Hm.. Maybe iMac Pro 2 with M2 Pro, or even M3 Pro? Face ID I will have to wait with until next year on Macs it seems.

I agree. However, I can see the base iMac remaining at M2 to keep costs down.
You can upgrade to a M3 iMac, but it'll cost you a pretty penny.

This is the Tim Cook upsell playbook.
I suppose. The first M1 iMac didn’t do that, likely because there were no other M series chips at the time. I still think M3 will be the base but perhaps the iMac gets the ability to get the M3 Pro, similar to how the last gen Mac Mini was able to be spec-d up to a M2 Pro.

Yep, classic Tim Cook to sell a more powerful computer with a larger screen so people will upgrade from the less powerful computer with a smaller screen.

As the announcement's illustration mood & feel are in the black, white and grey shades and tones, I suspect a "Pro" centric Mac event. So besides refreshed MacBook Pro's, what about a new iMac Pro?.... Let's hope, because I would definitely be in the market for it......
