Apple's problem is that they are way too late to the game.
Netflix, Hulu, and Prime have all been around for nearly a decade.

...also, Disney (having acquired the rights to 75% of popular culture) are just about to launch their own service, and I'd have thought they'd have been the go-to choice for the 'no naughty bits' audience.

Yeah. That’s the thing. It’s probably smart for Apple to stay goody two shoes.

Too much violence etc on tv shows. Too many murder stories. I like shows with machine guns and all that, but yeah, the style of violence on tv has gotten to be demoralizing. Taking the high road is good.

I don't disagree that there should be good, wholesome TV available, but Apple wants it both ways. Why are they bothering to make a Dr. Dre biopic without any sex or violence?

Plus, Apple is just taking things too far in my opinion. They are so concerned about keeping things PC that they had M. Night Shyamalan remove a cross from the background of the home of a couple on his new show, while still claiming to be giving creators the freedom to make what they want.

Sadly, this is where tech is going. We went from buying hardware and software, to free-with-ads, to subscriptions. Think about how much of your paycheck is going to all these nickel-and-dime subscriptions.

I remember when Steve Jobs said "People want to own music, not rent it". He was supposed to be their big visionary, now look where we are...subscribing to storage, news, video, music...

Learn to shop around, I purchased my cloud storage outright, etc. Sure if you do not want to compare services and prices take the easy way and subscribe. The only pay a price every three years for a service that protects my privacy.

I never understand complaints like this. None of those services are required for you to live. Those are luxuries that you have chosen to pay for. Companies like these as well as Apple work really hard to provide you with services that you may enjoy or may enhance your life but you are under no obligation to spend your hard earned money on any of them.
Sure, with that attitude I guess we don't have the right to complain about any product or service - the old "nobody is forcing you to buy it...", right?

So I guess you have zero complaints about any service or product that isn't "required for you to live"?

This is how mega-monopolies happen - they turn services into commodities people depend on, then lock out others from the market with their billions, raise prices, and nickle-and-dime you for every feature. Bingo - you're a trillion-dollar company that's bullied out all their competition.

Guess you're ok with that?

Apple is involved in other things other than just streaming entertainment. Unless the symbol of a cross has anything to do with the story, maybe it is wise to keep it out of sight. I have nothing against religious symbols, however Apple does not want to hurt their brand image.

Disney will have 2 streaming services running simultaneously.

They own 70% of Hulu which will be where their more adult content is

Just think...guessing here $9.99/m for news, $14.99 for Arcade, $19.99/m for TV, $9.99/ for Music, and lastly, $.99 for a usable iCloud storage.
^That's why I hate subscriptions. Forget about all the other bills in life, just the above without taxes is $54.95/m. Thats a lot to ask from a general population that struggles just to cover rent.

I don’t understand this. Is Apple forcing you to buy the most expensive iPhone or subscribe to any of these services? If it is expensive don’t buy the new iPhone or subscribe to any of these services. Don’t buy what you can’t afford and they will bring their prices down. Just like they are now coming to realize with the shambolic pricing if the XS.

I hope I'm wrong and Apple can deliver great content at great price but history says otherwise.
On the contrary, I hope you're right and I don't need yet another subscription, and at the same time Apple return to what are supposed to do and what they are actually good at.

Everything is subscription-based and in streaming format. You dont own nothing. The moment you stop paying, you lose all content. This is the trend. Next year, make unlimited photos with your camera for just 99cent per month.
This is a major reason why millennials are not saving money. It's very obvious you're wasting money or going in over your head when you buy a $60,000 car or a $500,000 house, but another $6.99/month isn't going to hurt anyone, is it?

Except it does. Young people are renting storage and movies and music and using DoorDash and Uber and look at how many weekly meals-in-a-box startups there are! As was said you can't even use Photoshop without paying every g**da*n month for the privilege.

Next thing you know there's nothing left from your paycheck and you're not saving a dime for retirement.

Because Dr. Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg are Actors.

Pranksters.

Studio Gangstas.

Bustas.

Anyone else think this event is boring i feel like going to sleep
Not only was it exceptionally boring, no one was able to speak off the cuff. The highly scripted delivery made it feel plastic and fake. I felt like I was watching a dull funeral service. Once they introduced Oprah as some sort of Messiah, I was done.

The scary thing is Apple is making you dependent on it by commoditizing it. It's like phone service - you don't really need that do you? So why complain that Verizon is holding you over a barrel?

I wouldn't be surprised if the day came soon where Apple charges a monthly subscription fee to just use the iPhone at all.

Apple TV Plus..... Netflix .... Apple TV Plus ..... Netflix .....

I definitely think they could've spent more time on finding a catchy, quick name.

Netflix & Chill

Apple TV Plus & Chill

Yea... marketing fail.

You clearly haven’t worked in creative companies with rows and rows of lined up iMac Pros.
I'll have to strongly disagree. I do happen to work on what could be qualified as a "creative company" and apple devices are on the edge of being kicked out. IT dept does not like unrepairable computers built like iPhones. ;)

When a high end machine "breaks", you need replacement parts ready for yesterday. Good luck on that with: MacBooks, iMacs and the trashcan Pro

This is the messiest Apple event ever. It’s all over the place. The game announcement immediately lost its impact when they said it won’t launch till the fall. Why not just announce and release it with iOS 13? The celebrities introducing their shows was boring. Spielberg and the Pakistani actor had me dozing off. My soul left my body when Big Bird showed up.

Edit: the previews for the shows looks boring.
I decided to skip this event once I found out it would be about "news and video services". Looks like I made the right choice.

Apple is trying to offer services to people like myself who hang on to devices longer these days, and refuse to upgrade due to the high prices and older hardware still working just fine. I do understand why (slight desperation move as fewer people are buying iPhones), but it just doesn't seem interesting enough for a dedicated event.

That’s the type of thing I would be concerned about.

I remember when Apple events used to be actual events. Nobody cares about subscription services half a year away. Tesla needs to try its hand at doing what Apple used to do, because Apple has clearly checked out.

I’m a hardcore atheist. If the filmmaker wants a cross in a scene that should be their decision and not some corporate decision based on whatever other religions or groups it offends.
