Might be getting old, but all these announcements today just confuse me mostly. I don't know what is what, just that there are a lot of subscriptions that I should be paying for monthly probably.
Yes it seems Apple want me to give them 9-99 a month for things I already have ?

Is their objective to compete with Netflix? Who said?

Maybe it’s to get Apple everywhere
Alright. Here it is. Streaming service that you guys been waiting for that will cost you $49.99/month for 1 stream, $89.99 for 2 streams, and $199 for 4 streams. And again fanboys will say how revolutionary the service is and totally worth it because the interface looks great and works with all Apple devices. And how they are now again stuck in the ecosystem.

In this case there really isn't ecosystem advantage. Apple's service will be in other devices, other services are in Apple's devices.

who knew the Apple credit card would be the highlight of the event and that tv would be the least interesting part.

I didn't learn anything new about Apple's tv efforts. They signed up a bunch of big stars. They are doing their own subscription service - no price announced.

They revamped the Apple TV yet again. Nothing earth shattering at all. Just that you can click on Billions and sign up for showtime from there in a click or two. They still don't have many content owners on board.

Probably too early to judge right now, but that's a lot of announcements about subscriptions...

Once everything comes out, then we can sort through the bundles/packages and the costs. Right now, it is all general until we get to the specifics.

No they cant. The best are not for sale and won't waste their time producing content that makes Apple shareholders happy.

The 10th best... maybe.

Everyone is for sale in the content business. They have a very respectful list of writers, directors, and actors for their service. I don't think your comment is based on anything factual.

This is the messiest Apple event ever. It’s all over the place. The game announcement immediately lost its impact when they said it won’t launch till the fall. Why not just announce and release it with iOS 13? The celebrities introducing their shows was boring. Spielberg and the Pakistani actor had me dozing off. My soul left my body when Big Bird showed up.

Edit: the previews for the shows looks boring.

LOL, I did find Big Bird a "What the...." moment.

Variety sums it up - taken from their app on apple’s news app ;):D
Many Hollywood heavyweights flocked to Apple’s Cupertino, Calif. headquarters to help reveal the tech giant’s revamped steaming service Apple TV+ on Monday — but one such legend was so polarizing he became a national trending topic on Twitter for simply showing his face.

Who cares at this point - other companies are offering much better services here in Europe, so good riddance, really.

You mean everywhere in the US?

I dunno. I realize it’s tough to get things into other countries like Canada. Lots of regulations. But I don’t know the answers on this.

PG13 content is probably international friendly for many other countries.

I think today’s event was just a taster for these shows and movies, more will probably be ready by the time Apple TV+ launches in the fall.

I’m hoping to see some great content :D

They mentioned around 100 countries, I’m hoping the U.K. is one of them!

Make it more convenient and yeah it’s a good business.
Yes if it’s eadier to use I’ll consider it but why change from Netflix but if that was included I’ll go for it

But if they bring britbox with all that classic bbc and itv back catalogue to us is Australia I’ll sign up jow

I'm so sick of all these companies moving to subscription type services. Right now I'm paying subscriptions for:

Extra ICloud storage
ITunes Match
Apple Music
Google Backup and Sync storage
VPN
Youtube TV

Probably a few other things I can't think of. A few bucks a month for one of these services doesn't sound like much but they all add up monthly.

But recurring revenue is exactly what every company (and shareholders) wants! Apple makes a load of money now, but if they can launch a successful platform that gets recurring revenue, they can be around for a long time.

Apple TV+: all of the crap that runs my cable bill up but I never watch...

Actually about zero of the stuff on Apple TV+ is on your cable bill. And probably won't be. Apple TV+ is completely different set of content largely produced directly from Apple for Apple services. The only expansion there is on the viewer hardware side ( Major smart TVs (Samsung , Sony , LG , Vizio) , Roku , FireTV ). There is zero indication Apple was going to shop the AppleTV+ content to other streaming channels. (maybe some movie theater release for a subset of the movies , but pragmatically that too is another "hardware viewer" option not an alternative streaming service option).

Apple Channels ? yes. Another way to get HBO , Showtime , etc. But that is probably more so going to be another way to view what you already have ( Instead of $X/mo. Spectrum , DirecTV , etc. box you can watch your cable/sat. content on your AppleTV , Pad , phone , Mac ). That is less fee if can drop the rental box to view the content.

My guess is that will be able to "debundle" some more of the HBO/Showtime/etc content if buy ala carte from iTunes and put into your video libraries purchases. They didn't highlight that but for folks who want to debundle at the extreme that probably be around too. ( Especially if Apple is taking up some of the streaming server duties when bought outside of a cable/sat package. )

So who do they have signed up? Tarantino? Nolan? Lanthimos?

I have no idea if the content will be good or not but competition always tends to work for the consumer. If nothing else, this keeps netflix and the other established players in check.

If Netflix can be everywhere, so could Apple. Their own content doesn’t need to be licensed out. It’s not a matter of regulation, it’s a choice they’re making

2015: "Let's get a bunch of CELEBRITIES to ware Apple watches".
2016: "Let's get a bunch of CELEBRITIES to sit in a car and sing".
2017: "Let's get a CELEBRITY to co-star in an advert with Siri".
2018: "Let's leak a subscription service and make it all about the CELEBRITIES".
2019: "Let's make a tentpole show about the most boomer CELEBRITY of all."

Sorry Tim, it takes more than the presence of celebrity to make something worth selling. It's just so lame and full of cringe. If you are worth having the talent comes to you, not the other way around. Apple is trying to buy a commodity that is as fake as their cares for prosumer products.

Netflix in Canada still sucks actually. They disallow a lot of shows. You must use IP tunneling vpn to get the full Netflix. Not everyone even knows how to do that.
