Is no one else bummed that there is no Siri?

With all the changes in Yosemite, I don't think they would have had time to develop Siri for the Mac in one year. Maybe for the next release, but something like that requires a lot of thinking about how to implement it for a desktop operating system.

So is "Photos" is gonna replace iPhoto? I was never a fan of iPhoto even though I used it. But I'm really excited about being able to use iCloud to find a photo on my iPhone thats stored in iCloud

I'd imagine it is going the way of iOS. A simple program to manage photos bundled with the option of downloading a more complex one later.

(If I'm right) This will probably give them more options for adding functionality to iPhoto (since they don't necessarily have to keep it "Mac newb-friendly").

Good step in the right direction design-wise, however why not simplify the mail icon like iOS to a white envelope and make the contact book gray? Also, when they debuted the new "dark" theme, I was surprised that they didn't also include a dark theme in iOS 8 since so many people have complained of it being too bright.

I am surprised no one brought up a nice UI feature Craig briefly mentioned during the keynote... "

Introducing dark mode! You can choose have a dark menubar and dark dock!

Somebody needs to get a screen grab of that!

Where's the full screen button gone? Or does the green zoom button now take on this role (like Windows)? I hope not!!
Actually thats a good question? And I think you are right, the green button is the new fullscreen button. They showed it in the video.

why are people so bummed out about the 2d dock, i don't really find the 3d dock all that amazing TBH...

How do you developer folk do this? Do you just install it on your usual machine, or do you have a separate Mac, or what? I'd join up if I could install it in VMWare or something like that. Can you put it in a separate drive partition?

You can do partitions. I made one already for it.

Or use a separate mac.

But don't ever install something like this on your main machine.

If you have only 1 mac, I wouldn't install it at all.

It's still early days for yosemite, so even developers need to be careful about it.

Things can go badly wrong with new stuff like this. Always make a backup before installing a developer preview. This is so important, I wish they would have said this at the keynote (especially for new developers who might not yet have seen things go awry with this sort of stuff).

A vmware or parallels virtual machine would be nice, but given the major problems parallels have had recently (even with the public release of 10.9.3), I think I'll stay with a partition for now until yosemite compatibility issues (and mavericks ones for that matter) are sorted out for virtual machines.

One major thing I haven't seen, an Airdrop update so iOS and OSX can finally share files without having to send it out on the internet to get it to transfer... All this stuff is great but I'd really like to be able to share files without a speedy internet connection or sucking up mobile hotspot bandwidth.

Yes they announced airdrop will work between iOS and Mac for Yosemite and iOS 8.

The menus look amazing :)

i totally agree. i think overall the thing looks like it looks really nice.

Also i think the new design and font (sorry helvetica-haters) will be much better for big screen projections like on a HTPC for example...

Great WWDC, i love software updates. Yeah, to bad that 3D dock is gone, but new one looks nostalgic :) Love it.
I am also exited about new programming language Swift. Code sure looks ugly and un-readable, but will have to check it out..it could be gem!

btw, is anybody else also happy that there was no Phil Schiller? Good, because I can't stand his smirk.

It's nice that Apple is not neglecting OSX and some of the new features might be useful, but I was hoping for a better finder. The poor file management is really holding the platform back IMO.

I have never lost a file, so I think finder and spotlight are fine.

Surely the public beta should have started today too? Aren't we meant to be IN the summer now? I hope by "summer" they don't mean "the end of August." I'm really hoping the public beta will be available in a week or two at most.

I like it, the UI looks neat, they app redesigns looks great. I just hope it doesn't slow down ''older'' Macs. For instance, I have a '11 MacBook Air, and it still runs great, just as fast when I bought it with Lion. I just hope these newer OS versions don't slow it down.

I'm sure it will, I find with apple you may get one good update, then the hardware can't keep up, my iPhone 5 runs super slow withe iOS 7
