Watch out for the Finder icon. It seemed to show a bit goofy during the keynote but online at the website it appears as just a more saturated version of the current icon? But wait my eyes don't deceive me, on the page for xCode 6 the Goofy Finder interloper appears.

You’re right, it’s different. The top one is from the keynote video, the bottom one from the website.

iCloud question (sorry if this has been answered, thanks for any feedback):

Will there be web-based apps (like "Google Docs") that allow you to create documents, or will you have to create the documents on an actual app (Word, Pages, etc.) and then save into iCloud?

Thanks.

What a negative nelly you are, I read this same comment of yours in another thread. How about we take a different tack, where if something does go wrong, instead of claiming some sort of victory (e.g. "I knew they'd screw it up"), we take it as an opportunity to help them get it right, assuming we like the features announced today.

This.

I personally love the new look, and plan on running Yosemite full time to contribute to its development prior to release.

The forums on this site are so ridiculously negative. Instead of supporting new direction, people find something to piss and moan about. You can't make everyone happy, because some people are just absolutely miserable cesspools of despair.

So all the people in this thread can enjoy being miserable about the dock, this or that icon, and anything else they want to throw a tantrum about. I'll be off enjoying Yosemite.

That already exists. And has for like 18 months.

Sure, icloud.com you can create your Pages files there, then load them up in Pages on your device.

I actually love that they didn't tempt us with a single product for us to buy. It was all about FREE software updates! :D

And support to the devs to keep making better apps. I'm actually really pleased with how Apple handled this WWDC, and hope they stick to this style of presentation.

Though I agree with some of the early posts mentioning that referencing windows and android was unnecessary. The figures were legit though, so I can understand why they were brought up. I just don't think they were make it or break it sections.

Summer (in the Northern Hemisphere, at least) starts June 21 (i.e., three weeks from today).

I wouldn't expect the public beta until mid-July (or so) - need to give the developers time to squash the most egregious bugs before opening it up to the public.

I guess that makes sense. I intend to use the public beta as my main OS so I'd rather all the really big bugs were gone beforehand.

Ps. I know that's ill-advised but betas are usually always very stable anyway with very few major bugs. Also, I am able to roll back if needed and Apple recommend you keep the beta until the official release if you want to role back to a release version anyway.

Under the hood

What about new stuff under the hood for OS X Yosemite?
Will there be support for newer OpenGL versions? What about Metal for OS X? Would be nice to get game performance closer to Windows.

Also curious about other under the hood stuff. Was quite spartan about that for OS X Yosemite compared to iOS 8. Maybe it's mostly the surface that is new for OS X Yosemite?

It seems to me that their is a pattern of focusing on aesthetics one year, then performance the next.

Edit: You could even say Consumer-Users one year, then Power-Users the next.

It's good to see that the majority of the forum members here seem to like the new design. In my opinion, it looks very-very nice. I wonder how people can even compare this "frosted glass" translucency to Windows Aero's cheap glass effect. The former is pleasing to the eye (at least to mine), the latter is not. The icons are beautiful too. I'm looking forward to Yosemite!

I guess it detects proximity via being on the same WiFi network, so maybe?

I'm hoping it doesn't require two devices on the same router. Something like a direct wifi connection or even low-power bluetooth would be nice.

The way they kept suggesting "even in another room" suggests it's only via router

(no on-the-go MacBook to iPhone use)

At first the Finder icon freaked me out; looking back at my Mavericks Finder icon was even worse though. They both fit in well to the vibrance of the entire OS I suppose.
