It's as if iOS 7 took a crap on my Mac.

I like iOS 7 on a phone or tablet, but I don't want all this translucency on my Mac.

Bothers me because of an eye condition that I have, I need more defined shapes.

I thought Netflix streaming was Silverlight-only? HTML5 streaming would be great.

Netflix actually added support for HTML5 a while ago. However it's currently only supported in IE11. You see when they say "advanced", what they mean is DRM encrypted. Something the content providers have stipulated, and which most HTML5 browsers do not currently support.

People crying over the new dock...I mean c'mon, it doesn't even look bad. Maybe you like the 3D look of the previous docks to say this is ugly just isn't true. I like the old dock too but the attacks on this new one is crazy to me. I feel everyone is saying it's bad just to be in the 'it' crowd. But I dunno, just my opinion.

What you are saying is confusing. do you like the old-old dock? It looks very similar to the one that OS X Yosemite dock.

Being that I went to school in Humboldt, I loved the joke how the naming team went further north and named it "OS X Weed" LOL

Great stuff.

I just don't think that the mentioning Microsoft and Android was necessary. I prefer it better when Apple just ignores the competition on their live events.

Keep in mind that this was a developer event. Not a commercial. Not a media presentation. Not a new product release. A DEVELOPER event.

Yes, I know that WWDC has become a media spectacle, but at it's core it's a meeting of developers, and should stay true to that fact. They are there to train developers, and to evangelize them as to why they need to develop for Apple, instead of the competition.

If you can tell a developer (who has paid to be there) that it's easier to develop for you because your latest release products have a much higher adoption rate than the products that are competing for their development resources, then you should. If you can tell a developer that your product is growing in certain markets over the competition then you should.

Apple is not just selling gee whiz features to developers. They're selling the draw of their platform, and potential for revenue.

'Oh no, something different. How will I live? I need to be keep the same stale UI for the rest of my life in order to be happy.'

Really looking forward to try out the 'dark mode'.

I've been wanting that option for years. I also love that its an option - could be that I actually prefer white/light grey after all. Or that I'll enjoy switching from time to time : ) If anyone could post some screenshots of OS X running in dark mode, I'd be very happy.

Only thing that looked wrong to me today was the dated look of the mail.app icon.

Best of all perhaps was the positive mood, spirit and pace of the presentation. The whole executive team is startin' to shine presentation wise. Love it.
Apple is in great shape.

F all the features...I WANT THE PHONE ON MY IPAD AND MAC PRO!!! yeah!!!!!!!!!
I'll be talking via computer...no more missed calls!!!

Cool - what's the bets it will be plagued with issues as with the current Maverbricks?

After downloading yosemite, if you run this in terminal you will get instructions for making a bootable USB:

/Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ 10.10\ Developer\ Preview.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia

This appears:

Usage: createinstallmedia --volume <path to volume to convert> --applicationpath <path to InstallAssistant.app> [--force]

Arguments--volume, A path to a volume that can be unmounted and erased to create the install media.
--applicationpath, A path to copy of the OS installer application to create the bootable media from.
--nointeraction, Erase the disk pointed to by volume without prompting for confirmation.

Example: createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath "/Applications/InstallAssistant.app"

This tool must be run as root.

That explains why I couldn't get it to work in HTML5 no matter what I did. They should really make that more clear when you set the options; I could have saved an hour of frustration.

On another note: I wonder what Chrome's variant of HTML5 DRM that I found in flags is.

The only thing that I'm really scared of are the minimum specs. Yes sure you install Yosemite on a 7 year old Mac but I think there will be a huge catch for older hardware.

I'm really wondering how the continuity will be working from a technical point of view. My best guess at this moment: Bluetooth 4.0. That will leave a huge installed base out in the cold. But maybe I am wrong. I can't find any small print on Apple's site so who knows...

Is it just me, or are Calls on Mac not working, and Dark Mode is not available yet?
Oh oh here come's the hardware catch... What is your system?

Fantastic update, a huge amount of work throughout OS X, iOS and development.. Well done :apple:

Static 2D blur dock - meh and a slightly intrusive spotlight bar, but I'm sure we'll all adapt. I like the use of transparency and font update.

I wonder why they ditched control centre (based on leaks in last 24 hrs)..

All looks great. Nice clean interface and love the continuity stuff, especially the green bubble integration haha.
