Because the kids need new shoes.

or because everything is a trade off and you can’t expect to offer everything everyone wants built in.
I'm not asking for the kitchen sink here, I'm asking for the most widely-used port. Go to a Walgreens and check out, you'll see a wall of USB memory sticks and SD cards for sale, no USB-C sticks.

I’m not an Apple hater, I currently own over 15 Apple products. I love Apple products! But this, is so bad! My first impression is this is a unfinished AutoCAD project with really bad color choices. Then Chinese knock off all-in-ones. Then kids toy computer... The list goes on... it’s so ugly that I’m so glad I didn’t wait for it and instead I went for the LG ULTRA FINE+M1 mini set up. They’ve been living on Steve’s shadow for so long and this is a real opportunity to show that this is still Apple after him but they failed. I’m really disappointed!

I guess I don't mind the chin (or the notch!)... these look like the original iMac G3 and the G5/1st gen Intel Macs had a baby.

I like.

Now just make the space gray/black version with black bezel.

I want to see some good high resolutions pictures of this before I render final judgement. Better yet if this becomes available in-store sometime in May then I’ll get a firsthand look at it at work when they put a demo on display (I work at Staples in Canada). Re: the colours—eberyone knows what the silver looks like, but I’ve also seen firsthand what the green and blue look like on the new iPad Air—they’re not bad. Pink, though, I have doubts. Rose Gold is popular so that might have been a better option.

I’ve been waiting for the new iMac and I want to see how configurable this will be. I’m not in dire need for a new computer so I can wait to see what the forthcoming 30in.(?) has to offer.

If a configured version of this new iMac offers what I’m looking for then I’ll likely take the plunge. Even a 24in. model is a possibility given I presently have a 21.5in.
configurable up to 16GB memory and 2TB disk

I don’t know what Walgreens is but it sounds like they have **** choices.

I live in the sticks of a developing south East Asian country and don’t speak the local language, yet I have zero problems finding USB-c accessories, combo c+a flash drives etc.

maybe you should spend less time complaining that Apple doesn’t include a port even the USB-IF considers legacy and more time asking that store to stock some modern computer equipment?

Waste of money get yourself a Mac mini doesn't make sense for the same performance, might as well wait for more performances based iMac that is faster. Typical apple using the same chip for everything....

Would you prefer they put less powerful chips in them, just to avoid that?

It's a pharmacy that sells some other random stuff too. I use them as an example because it's where regular people go to shop, not the unusual group of people present on a tech forum. It's the same at any other store. The print shops don't take USB-C, only A and maybe Lightning if you're lucky.

Nobody cares about using the latest technology, they're just trying to transfer their photos or whatever.

Everybody understands that. What we don't understand is Apple's obsession with a desktop being thin while the most visible design aspect continues to be huge (the chin). It looks even more ridiculous now without the logo breaking up all that space. Why not make it thicker and get rid of the chin???
So which AiO do you think look better?

Technically, this is clearly a step forward. I hope 27 inch (or possiblly 30 inch) model will look different though, visually I don't like this at all.

No more elegant black bevel around screen (even as an option?), chin looks even bigger without the Apple logo.... not to mention, current model has elegant, thinner edges (don't care the slightest about the thicker back, cause I never see it anyway).

To be fair, how often do you really see the sides either?

This reminds me of the Tesla Cybertruck reveal.

When the truck rolled out... I was thinking "this is a joke, right? They're gonna drop this and show the real Cybertruck..."

But no... that was it.

I was watching from someone's blurry smartphone livestream at the event... so I thought the picture was distorted! Nope!

:p
500,000+ deposits on the Cybertruck. Hopefully, Apple can do the same with these systems. And at least Tesla had the good sense not to use pastel colors.

Here’s to the complainers: The basic M1 iMac is £1,249 in the UK. There is still a 21.5” Intel iMac available for £1,099. It comes with a 2.3 GHz dual core processor and 1,920 x 1,080 pixel non-retina display. For a massive £150 saving you get a much slower CPU and totally inferior monitor.

The cheapest 27” iMac is £1,799 with a 6 core 3.3 GHz Intel i5 CPU, not quite matching the M1, and larger display; 2,560 x 1,450 vs 2,240 x 1,260 Retina display. Yes, it’s overall better than the M1, but for £550 more. The 64GB RAM that some people absolutely need is £1,000 more on top of that.

These will hopefully have the same fate as the iPhone 5C.
(Discontinued after one round)
I’m not hating the colors but the design itself is just horrendous..
taking something so beautiful and turning it into this..unbelievable 🥲😔

I think it's clear they need to rethink their marketing strategy and they just alienated a ton of Apple users they forgot about the market where the folks have been using the products for years they put this iPad on a stand and called it a computer.

Given that its a pretty big upgrade from the current iMacs, can you talk a bit more about how its (just?) "an iPad on a stand"?

I'm not a fan of the white bezels; I would have preferred black. Black often disappears into content; white doesn't really do that. It just doesn't look right.

The Chin is necessary for the ports and the speakers. The entire computer is in that chin. The top is a screen.

The chin is also helpful for adjusting the display without putting pressure on the screen and getting fingerprints on it.
To be fair, how big are your fingers?

Why do you apologists expect people explain to you what they need / want?
Stop the name calling. And I didn’t expect him to explain anything - because there is very unlikely to be any real reason other than the desire to complain.
