Safari 4's changes to Webcore and Javascript are causing the web design app I use to crash 100% of the time :(

Back to Safari 3 for me.

Safari 4

Just installed (MBP 2.4) but it won't launch. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, reset Safari, all to no help. Anyone else having this issue? I don't have any Safari plugins installed BTW.

Update: Never mind. I remembered I did have the Glims plugin. Removed it and it launched fine.

I had the same problem. how did you remove the Glims plugin?

I can't even launch Safari 4. It just crashes as soon as I launch it.

Edit: I don't have any Safari plug-ins installed.

He's not talking about full screen viewing. He's talking about full page zoom. Instead of just increasing text size (or, actually, anything denoted in CSS as having width or height in "em") it increases everything, including images. It's a good usability feature. You have the option to tell Safari to increase text size only

Oh, that. Hold down the control key on your keyboard and scroll with your mouse wheel. Introduced in OS X 10.4.7, if I remember correctly.

A couple of comments. It seems to be faster IMO and I don't mind top tabs, though I wish it was more like Chrome.

I was thinking though that one of the new features to be in Safari 4 was the ability to make applications like Chrome has. Right now I'm using Fluid to do this for Google Calendar and also Documents. I was hoping it would be builtin to Safari though.

Looks good... Gonna wait 'til I get new hard ware. That way I'll be "Wow. That's faster than the old one." (I have a 5 year old 12" powerbook g4.)

I hate it, I absolutely hate this. Total mess up.

Big tabs? Why with the big tabs? Yeah they get smaller when you open up more of them, but still they are totally ugly when you have just one or two open.

Cover flow? Another why in a browser? Who needs a flashy way to look at your history and bookmarks? The only nice thing could be with the history. A visual flashback of a page you closed a few days ago is a better way of remembering then text.

Top Sites... a copy of Opera's Speed Dial. Handy feature to add.

So yeah there are a few things I do like but it is still ugly. Safari 3's look was nice. Safari 4? BIG UGLY TABS. Hate em!

Download page formats correctly under IE but not under Safari 3/Firefox 3

It is very weird and ironic that Apple's Safari 4 download page is totally screwed up (download button not even available) when viewed from Safari 3 (windows) or Firefox 3 (windows). However, IE 6 works fine!!! WTF

Yeah, because a browser is defined entirely by the placement of the tabs.

I'm sorry, if the tabs are placed like this, yeah, it kinda does.

That's like SAAB, whose only feature distinguishing them from other GM brands like Vauxhall, Holden, Opel is the key lock between the front seats. Except placing the tabs on top where the title bar is supposed to be is like putting the blinker lever into the glove box. No good reason for it, and it doesn't serve any other purpose than to be different and confusing.

I'll stick to Firefox 3.1b2:

Two questions:

What does the star mean surrounded by blue in the top sites section? It disappears after you click on the page.

Can I move the tabs bar back? I find it visually jarring to have the tabs floating at the top edge of the window..the window needs a border for separation's sake from other open windows..if you have the safari window in front of another window title from any other app, it looks like the tabs could belong to that other app window (I know that wording probably doesn't make any sense).

Other than that, it really does seem faster!

Mail crashes immediately after launch now

Uninstall. Coverflow is cute but no big deal. I can't even launch mail now. I get some kind of webkit rendering error and it immediately crashes.

Obviously, not ready even for Beta status. Uninstall!

At wordpress.com where I am hosting my blog (see sig) there is a flash editor and it doesn't work with Safari Beta 4. When I want to insert a pic into my blog the screen will become gray and the only option is "return" and not "insert". But "Top Sites" and "Search History" with Cover Flow are awsome!
