Snapback

The Snapback feature has been removed. Bummer.

I think there was another company claiming to own the rights to that feature, so maybe they had a legitimate claim?

I sure wish I was having the same luck the rest of you are having. It crashed my system entirely, my OS X partition on my Boot-Camp'd MBP is unmounted & in need of repair. Can't repair it because Disk Utility says that disk needs to be mounted in order to repair it, but it can't mount it because it's in need of repair.

They should add a dynamic status bar when hovering over links (much like how Chrome does it). It is annoying (and potentially unsafe) to not be able to see where a link may take you (without having to turn on the Status bar).

1Password Workaround

I just had a look around the 1Password forums and a workaround has already been found.

Working good for me so far, so it is worth a try.

I tried the method described here:

http://support.agilewebsolutions.com...2&postcount=14

and everything seems to be working fine. The only difference is that the newest Safari 4 Beta available today is Bundle Version 5528.16, so that's what you have to paste into the .plist file.

Everything seems to be working correctly. I did have to add the 1password button to Safari's toolbar again (through the View... > Customize Toolbar menu).

Sounds like you had a latent drive issue and this just brought it to light. I'd get a copy of DiskWarrior and run it on there (or just take the machine in for service, your call).

Besides having OS X boxes, this allows one to test more on one box.

:D

I, too, have noticed this. It is quite frustrating.

Overall, I am very disappointed with this beta. I realize it's not a finished product so i'll withhold further judgement, but I did not notice a major speed difference than this and 3.2.1. This may be due to just having an incredibly fast internet speed at my college. It did not nothing to alleviate wait times for Last.fm (sluggish site) or my Drexel Email. With the flaws and changes I just decided to revert back. We'll see what the final version brings.

It's more of a problem with the new live hotmail. An online search shows thousands of frustrated live users.

One thing I haven't been able to figure out: some of my Top Sites appear with the top-right corner folded down, to reveal a little white star on a blue background. Clicking the star doesn't do anything special. Any idea what these are for?

Been trying to figure that out.

Restart and hold down cmd + S at the gong.

At the command line type "fsck -fy" without the quotes and hit return.

Anything more ambitious will require diskwarrior.

Try these commands in Terminal to get back whatever Safari 3 features you'd rather have!

0 = Turn it Off
1 = Turn it On

Get the old toolbar back (Separate Add Bookmarks icon, etc.)
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeToolbarRedesign 0/1

CoverFlow View On/Off
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeFlowViewInBookmarksView 0/1

New URL Completion Menu On/Off
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeFancyURLCompletionList 0/1

Google Suggest On/Off
Code:
 defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeGoogleSuggest 0/1

I've installed on my ppc mac mini and so far I have not had any problems. Noticeably faster load times and no crashes (yet). Is there some commonality to those Macs which are crashing or failing to load?

That's good, I love my 1password. :)

Other than that little snafu, I'm loving Safari 4. Looks very nice.

Mod plist to list.. 1password then works

Liking the new version very much!

A bit of a Chrome/Firefox feature "borrowing" though - I wish they added in some original features.

Safari 4 Beta

Apple, PLEASE stop the fluff that no one needs or uses and just make Safari work. I still surf sites each day that Safari will not work with, yet Firefox will. Java continue to suck on the Mac platform, hope this upgrade works better with Java.

Font change

Anybody notice the title bar font change? It's been a while since I used the old Safari on Windows, but I seem to remember that this was the title bar font. I guess they're using it for OSX now. Leave it to Apple to veer off just when OSX was starting to look unified for the first time in years. I just hope this isn't a preview of a font change for Snow Leopard. Personally, I think it's ugly.

I've only used a couple of features but I LOVE IT!!! Apple does have the best browser on the market. Hopefully the Windows fanboys will pipe down now about Safari.

I imagine 'new' features are practically impossible to think up noawadays. I'm sure people said this 5/6 years ago, but there can't be THAT much more to put into a browser that might actually be useful. Looks like somebody will have to create 3D internet, 5.1 surround sound browsing and the like to give these programmers something to do.

I remember the first time I tried Chrome, I was like 'tabs at the top! Which idiot thought of that!' but then, due to Safari always crashing on my windows machine I switched to Chrome for a while and the more I used it the sense it made. I prefer them on top.

Remember. This is a beta. I'm sure there will be a refresh button in the final version and maybe even a chance to swap the tabs back down.

Refresh button on the right hand side of RSS logo in the URL bar.
