As for Blu-Ray, I don't see physical media totally dying out any time soon. First off, the HD movies & TV shows are still not anywhere near the quality of 1080p Blu-Rays. And if they were, they'd take FOREVER to download on the current US internet infrastructure. Also, physical media often includes special features like audio commentaries, behind the scenes documentaries, etc. Until digital downloads match the quality & features of physical media, there will be holdouts.

As for iPhones & iPads, as nice as they are, Apple should give more attention to its other products as well. IMO, one reason why consumers focus more on the iPads & iPhones. Which mean Apple will focus more on those areas, making consumers focus more on the iPads & iPhones, & keep going in a circle. If Apple would keep the same amount of focus on the iPad & iPhone, but also focus more on the Mac Pros & Mac OS X, Apple could make an even bigger killing. Apple had what, several billion dollars of profit this year? They can probably add a few more designers & manufacturers so they don't have to pull people from somewhere else. As I said, I wouldn't mind too much if the full Mac OS X & iPad OS merged, as long as the new OS gets some of the full fledged features.

Can't wait for then new iPhone, even though we've already seen it I'm excited to hear the detailed specs and super excited for the release.

My sister works for Apple. She's a software engineer.
Don't want to mention any numbers. You already know about Apple's NDA.

But with that being said, Apple would need iTunes even if they weren't selling billions of apps from it. It's the only way to sync an iPod/iPhone to the computer.

Mac Pros

I hope there is some sort of Mac announcement there even if it is not OS X per se - like new Mac Pros. I'm sure if they had the parts they'd update them immediately but hopefully it will be by WWDC.

We could look at this from gains standpoint; what is there to gain from using iPhone OS on desktop computer. Honestly, I can't find any. iPhone is ideal for media consumption but is poor for creation of any kind of material. Even more so iPhone OS is ideal for small, portable touch screen devices but poor on big desktop screens which means lower productivity. The change would most likely drive away large number of professional Mac users even in extent that new iPhony Mac would be seen purely as consumer device.

Of course they won't say anything about OS X 10.7, it hasn't even been a year since Snow Leopard is out, and while to us users it's like using a much slower buggier version of Leopard, to Apple it's like they just released a brand new version of OS X and they don't need to release anything new for a couple of years now.

Wasn't Snow Leopard a fresh update?

I'm trying to see something that is so new in Windows 7, but I really can't. Other than a few UI features, it seems the only reason people like Windows 7 is because MS's advertising and the media told them to. People will switch to the Mac for the same reasons they did before. And based on Apple's sales numbers, this is continuing to happen.

You have not played with Windows 7, your above statement is testament to that.

These are Windows 7 Numbers:

Well, if your sister really does work for Apple then she already violated her NDA telling you the numbers. And you didn't sign an NDA with Apple, did you? So, why not spill the beans? :)

And you think the costs of maintaining the infrastructure that supports the iTunes Store and App Store are negligible?

This isn't true. There just aren't any for this year. They may have them next year.

Design Awards (for Mac) have been given every year since 1997. I don't see why they would stop now if they didn't intend to cancel the tradition and focus on iPhone OS. After all there is no reason not to give a design award for Mac apps just because there is no new OS X featured in this years WWDC.

You know, now Apple will sue MacRumors to find out who you are so they could figure out who your sister is & fire her.

J/k ;)

They clearly want to focus on iPhone OS. Why pull a handful of OS X-only devs in just for 1 of 5 awards. Seems like a waste of time and it unfocuses the entire week.

is very expensive :p

"On July 21, 1999, at Macworld Expo New York, Apple and Akamai announced a strategic partnership to build Apple's new media network, QuickTime TV (QTV), based on QuickTime Streaming Server. Both companies later announced that Apple had made a $12.5 million investment in the company the previous month. Apple continues to use Akamai as their primary content delivery network for a wide range of applications including software downloads from Apple's website, QuickTime Movie Trailers, and the iTunes Store."

Something tells me they get a better pricing scheme than GoDaddy offers.

I'm disappointed there will be so much on the iPhone/iPad OS and largely no major announcements for Mac OS X. I would kill for some sweet announcements like backwards app compatibility or app virtualization in OSX. I would also love a new filesystem and all the underlying architecture that would have to be re-done, like a new ground up finder, Time Machine, FileVault etc. Finally Give me Blu-Ray, and a new UI like the iPad.

Look at the mouse, the lack of a floppy drive on the original iMac, original iPod, etc. There were quite a few naysayers, but people's minds changed dramatically about it eventually. Maybe if Apple did release a touchscreen iMac, we'd do adapt to that, too. I don't have my crystal ball handy, so I can't say for certain. Only time will tell.

I wouldn't be surprised if there will be mass suicides if Mac OS X got a UI like the iPad. Or at least a mass exodus to WIndows/Linux. Some diehard mac fanbois are so anti-iPad OS on their desktop, they'll leave. I've mentioned my opinion several times in this thread so I won't repeat myself.

IIRC, Leopard was released in late October 2007 and the first public announcement of Snow Leopard was at WWDC 2008, less than eight months later.
