This really isn't a pivotal decision for iOS 8. There will likely be an 8.0.1 or 8.1 update that reinstates the feature. Even if iOS 8 doesn't have all of its features at launch, we can be glad that Apple doesn't follow the footsteps of other device manufacturers and release something before it's ready. It's quality over timely release.
Lame. This is a major fature in iOS8. So instead of applauding them for shoddy work, I expect a quality timely release, not a quality or timely release.

Such is a day in the life of a software development organization. Better that they catch and remediate it now than when it reaches the hands of consumers. I'm excited to play around with the other new features! This just means that we'll have another feature release to look forward to! This really isn't a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. Everybody likes to complain about their recent hiccups, but we all keep buying their stuff, so they must be doing something right. :)

Apparently Health app only tracks Dietary and Active calories. Not total calories consumed.

That wasn't my problem. My problem was I added my morning breakfast foods in a group, and it made the number of entires with each entry being the total. So I added 3 items totaling about 300 calories in MFP. The Health app added 3 entries each for 300 calories, so a total of 900. If I added the foods individually, it worked fine.

Say it with me...

... "IT JUST WORKS..."
You would have a point if they released it only to pull it later because of a major bug. But they didn't, they pulled it before launch. So technically from a consumer perspective it never existed. Nothing is guaranteed to "just work" before its actual release. At this point what you're effectively doing is whining about beta software not working yet. Granted, it was supposed to be released today, but it's better they pulled it and kept it in beta as opposed to releasing it with bugs.

Oh. Oops.

Aside, where do you see the total calories in Health App?

If major features aren't available at launch, they should have just pushed the launch back or not included them till a 8.1 update.

I would say this is Apple's sloppiest release to date. Bit off more than they can chew

Sounds like they are stumbling trying to get so much done all at once. They should spread this out more. If they spread it out throughout the year we all have something to think and talk about all the time and they stay in the news more. This packing everything into the fall seems like a misstep.

I think Apple is very concerned they won't get 90-95% adoption rates if they slowly stagger updates.

Let's just hope Apple is using a different CDN to serve up iOS 8 than the one they used to serve up the stream of the keynote last week.

So what about all of the iPhone 6/6+'s that are already loaded with iOS 8? Sorry, your phone pre-orders have been delayed a week? Guess the engineers are going to have to work a couple of late nights!

Pull it fix it and redistribute it 100% robust.

After, sort the complacency setting in. Deal with the applauding of mediocre performance.

Get laser focussed on every detail that makes the whole. SJ had that right and why he got the best out of people (though he could have done that bit better).

I see this kind of pathetic acceptance everyday. It's like a parasite eating away at all that is good.

I'd rather have them hold something back if it's not ready than release something that's not ready like they did with maps.

Not the same. That doesn't do SMS relay, actually. Try sending an SMS from your iPad to someone who doesn't use iMessage. Won't work (at least pre-iOS 8 it won't).

Sir, the new Continuity feature of iOS 8 promised us the ability to send texts from our iPads. That feature has been delayed. Again, to counter what you said, SMS relay doesn't require Yosemite.

Who cares these types of things happen. We've lived without healthkit for thousands of years, we can wait another month or so.
