yup, the one where you open the video recorder and turn the flash to "on" then don't record anything.

why anyone would pay for something the phone does for free is... well...

"a sucker is born every second.............."

but they only visit the itunes store......... that explains the myriad of junk apps that generates income...... for  and some developers..... :p

soon...........

a new thread- iphone 4 users demand warranty replacements for burnt out led lights and "terrible battery drainage"................... add this to the signal loss issue and proximity sensor problems

heibo!

I agree, but then why are there seemingly dozens of paid apps just to get to the free emoji icons? Apple should screen harder to protect customers if they're going to keep this model.
True. I'm not saying the inclusion of those apps (I don't know what they are) are a mistake, but imagine how difficult it is to approve/decline hundreds of apps per week on a set of guidelines that clearly aren't very strict and co-ordinating with all the other people who sort apps. Again, I'm not saying the apps you're referencing should or shouldn't be in the app store, but I think it's understandable that's there's a few apps that maybe should be rejected, just like the apps we hear in the press that have been rejected without reason (like the NIN Access app).

So now someone needs to make an app that reads the blinking light from another phone through the camera to translate morse code.

well... USELESS is pretty strong. since google's "open" app store is having real problems with that.

the "useless" approval process is EXACTLY the reason there are so many apps, so few malwares, and the whole thing works as well as it does.

so maybe calm down on the "useless" system that's gotten you 100K apps and a thriving ecosystem, ok?

Well said.

God, there's an iLemming born every second.

The iPhones been around since when, 2007? No LED flash until June 2010, despite them (LED flashes) being around the most basic even NON-smart phone for a decade now.

Now they're going to allow these silly little paid apps that net Apple part of the profits.

Mind boggling what people will cheer for.

People Charge for this?

So people are actually charging 0.99 for this app...really????? Who in their right mind creates this app (which is useful) then decides they are going to charge for it? you start the app and the LED comes on; the free ones do the exact same thing! So what exactly are you being charged .99 for?

My advice is stop trying to be greedy! There is no reason to charge for this, and whoever pays for it is not too bright (no pun intended), seeing as you can get a free app that does the EXACT same thing!

Better yet, a developer should make a free flashlight app where the light turns off once a minute until you click on the iAD. Genius! Speaking of which...

me, for example.

for the app.

False. They don't really do the exact same thing.

"Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a LED-Torch app. Not worth it." :D

1. tap camera icon
2. flip to video
3. tap flash icon
4. hit "on" and the light comes on

versus

1. tap flashlight icon and the light comes on

Not to mention, the camera uses significant battery (see the docs for Spyglass: you can turn off the cam to save battery).

As for people charging, well... .99 is nothing, and they DID do some work to make it happen (not to mention paying the dev fee). They’re not forcing anyone to buy, but I think it’s fair game for them to ask. In fact, if an app (however simple) is well-designed with nice UI art, that’s legitimate value.

Considering my cheap Kyocera phone for Virgin Mobile had this exact feature about 8 years ago, it's about durn time. Came in very handy when there was a power outage. The fact that a disclaimer needs to be used pointing out loss of battery life means Apple must have some doozy letters in the complaints department. "Yeah, I didn't lock my screen and my battery was dead by the end of the day!"

Thanks! I wasn't going to spend any money for a silly app like this :D

I submitted mine yesterday... Look for TrueLight for iPhone 4 in the app store soon. It also has a strobe light. PS. ITS FREE!!! PSS. It's better than the other free one.

Agreed. However, I'm making mine free. I sent it in yesterday... Look for TrueLight for iPhone 4 soon...

See above. They are always desperate to find something negative to say about Apple in every story...

And then there are people like you. Apple could release a concrete brick for $500 and not only would you be the 1st in line to buy it, but then you'd run to MR to tell everyone here how "elegant" and "gorgeous" it was!!

I swear to God you guys must go to fan-boy school to learn how to speak your secret language. OK Guys, every product NOT made by Apple is "clunky", "crappy", and "junky". All Apple products, regardless of the price, design, or usability is "elegant" "delicious" and "skating to wear the puck is going to be"..

My favorite is when you guy start making posts in the Middle of February like "What's everyone going to buy Steve for his birthday this year"???

Being a fan of Apple products is great - being blinded by a company is juvenile. I took my iPhone 4 back and bought a Droid (I still have my 3GS also). It's great, trust me. It's not junky, clunky, or crappy. And regardless of what "Steve Says", it's not for "porn"... And there is something to say about developers being free to develop whatever they would like on a platform..

I love my Apple products, but in 52 years on this planet I have learned to think for myself. Trust me, the iPhone 4 has a design flaw. I love my mini, but it's WAY overpriced for what you get (and I could really care less if the "back of it looks better than the front of the other guys").

I'm not sure what it is with you guys who are insulted by even the slightest criticism of Apple products. I love my Mac, but it's far from perfect - - and I'm not going to say it is just to be a non-thinking drone who dreams (day and night) of new ways to kiss Steve Jobs' ass!

This is 52 years of anger built up. Let it out, friend. We are here for you.

"Each app, however, must include a disclaimer that continued use of the iPhone's LED may dramatically decrease battery life. "

Wow, how patronizing. It's bad enough that opening my GPS app throws up a disclaimer that assumes users are a one year old.

Perhaps the legal department might next suggest that a disclaimer pops up every time I hit a key on my iphone warning me of impending battery life doom.
