There's nothing to debunk. Do what you want. I'm personally going to risk long term effects with the vaccine so I don't get a severe infection if infected. I'm going to be first on the line for a booster.

Proof of vaccine is now required in some venues. Some companies are requiring vaccination (or legitimate exemptions) as conditions of employment.
Exactly. Do what you want. I respect your decision.

Here in D.C. I haven’t been asked by either my employer or any venue (gym, restaurants, etc) for a vaccine card. A mask is being required indoors and I respectfully engage in that practice.

100,000 more dead? When will sanity come back into fashion? One of the root reasons for government is to protect its citizens, and it also is in our own best interests to protect ourselves.

Get tested, get vaccinated, wear a mask, social distance: protect yourself. Enough have died senselessly, needlessly...:(
I think the best thing governments could do (as we don't yet have vaccines for kids under 12) is to not allow children in schools unless their parents are vaccinated. Nothing will drive parents to put their politics aside faster than when it affects the well-being of their children.

(and the cost of daycare is a pretty strong motivator as well) :)

This thread is wild. It's so sad how many people will deny proven science and 100+ years of vaccination success due to brainwashing/misinformation from the political right. Facebook and Fox have done massive damage to the United States.

This has always existed.

It is not just Facebook or Fox, but social media platforms have enabled people for better or worse to have a louder voice.

I'll just remain happy and naturally immune, satisfied with my imaginary doctor's fictional medical opinion.

fixed that for you

or put another way:

the point isn't really you sticking with your personal doctor's medical opinion. it is that you are spreading dangerous and indeed potentially deadly misinformation online (that there is no reason for one to be vaccinated if they have already had covid) and appealing to an authority (your doctor, who you've claimed also happens to be an expert immunologist) without providing any evidence to that authorities expertise, or indeed even existence.

Should we also fire everyone who smokes cigarettes because second hand smoke has been proven to be worse for nearby people, not to mention raising insurance rates for these poor multibillion dollar companies. Perhaps every woman should also share their pap-smear status annually so those insurance rates don't affect everyone (including mens rates even though it doesn't apply to them).
How about you move to china so they can tell you how to live your life and you let americans be americans with their freedoms of choice.
Smoking has been banned in every public space in the U.S., including workplaces. There's no risk of second hand smoke anymore while at work. I bet you were against that too.

Fair enough. I know their is misinformation all over the place, just seems to largely come from the right wing media.
Well, I bet if you asked regular people on the other side, they'd say the same about the left wing.

To my way of thinking, that kind of divide is the main problem. It sounds as though we can agree on that?

hard disagree. many “regular people” on the right also bemoan the far right media conspiracy theory culture.

and there is no real equivalent on the left. it is very much a creature of the far right cooked up partly to get people like your beloved mr. trump elected

debates like this in these forums tend to be between what i would consider centrists (in america that would be mainstream democrats) and far right conspiracy theorists, or those who have been sucked in by the conspiracy theories

Sure, but that wouldn't be accurate. The 12 most responsible for misinformation all support theories that are now mainstream in the GOP caucus, right wing radio hosts, Qanon people, Fox, Newsmax, and the like. I think it would be a bit disingenuous to "both sides" this argument when it is largely spread through right wing channels (they use the below as their sources). The divide is absolutely a problem, but at some point there has to be a divide - those who believe in science and care for the greater good of the their community and those who don't. It stops being a "difference of opinion" when peoples lives are at stake.

I suppose I'm just seeing all kinds of divides and fractures where there haven't been before, and it's escalating to a holy war level that is ultimately making people dig in. And people in all spectrums are absolutely convinced they are on the One True Path.

I've personally seen the end effects of this, both in Iraq and Bosnia. I'd rather it not happen to the US. :(

I am not saying I have a solution. If I did I wouldn't be posting here during my idle time.

It's fascinating that a extremists can only spot the extreme from the "other side".

How come vaccinated people seem to be incredibly afraid of unvaccinated people?
I got my 2 Pfizer shots and couldn‘t care less about other people‘s vaccination status.

Im afraid they end up controlling the timeframe to come back to normal activities. Everything is slower because of them. And my kids and baby aren’t vaccinated, so.

I agree with you, but we have to be honest from where this divide, anger, and hate is coming from. The left has their faults too (mainly a lack of spine), but generally is supportive of people's rights, helping the poor and people of color, supporting large scale investments in the working class, and addressing climate change. The right is focused on culture wars, taking away people's rights, and scapegoating people of color and the lower class in an effort to keep the rich rich and their society's white. This is just fact at this point.

Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure.
Covid, has killed 658,103 in the united states since the start.
Those numbers are pretty dang close. In fact, when you figure that we are almost 2 years in on covid, smoking is actually WORST!

So let’s not do something about prevantable deaths at all because there’s another broad cause of preventable deaths?

Smart forum.

(As is there weren’t tons of actions against smoking too).

Some people will take animal medicine, but balk at an FDA approved human vaccine. Go figure. It's like children being told to eat the brocolli. They stomp their feet and will do the exact opposite of what is suggested.

Ivermectin is being used in hospitals along with zinc, vitamin D and another medication I cannot remember the name of for people who enter the hospital with COVID-19. Ivermectin should not be used without a doctor’s advice/prescription/order, in the hospital. You should not be buying Ivermectin from Tractor Supply.
It is not being used in any legitimate therapy for Covid. The FDA advises against using Ivermectin since it is an anti-parasitic and not an anti-viral. There is zero evidence as to it's efficacy as an anti-viral.

Because un-vaccinated people are why there are variants in the wild. This is basic science. Vaccine protected against the original strains and if everyone was vaccinated it would greatly prevent variants from gaining hold and getting stronger.
A vaccine resistant variant is far more likely to spawn from within a vaccinated person who becomes infected (as we know this happens) but the virus mutates and as such evades the vaccine response. They then give it to someone else.

It’s “called selection pressure”, and for sure 100% it’s already happening.

I still think people should get vaccinated though. It will be a constant race.

It's insane to me. I don't know if it's the brainwashing or if this always existed and it's just amplified now. Probably a bit of both. I'll tell you what though, the people making money off of this group of people are loving it.

Except that they still listen to Orange man's advise of drinking bleach. We now have a new nutcase candidate DeSantis. Look who else is taking Ivermectin and vitamins to treat Covid, he's also antivaxxer? haha
