Apple should forget about EA and try to buy Nintendo.

*A man can dream - right?*
Nintendo is like the Apple of video game industry. People also keep predicting doom and gloom for them, but they're doing VERY well.

If we get to dream, I would've preferred if companies like EA would've just dialed back their "corporate crazy" and being sacks of **** in the first place.

That will almost certainly remain a dream as Nintendo is too Japanese to sell to a western company. Odds may be bigger that Apple would acquire Sony.

Apple purchasing EA, which has a market value of $34 billion, would be the largest acquisition by Apple in its history.
That’s a lot for a video game company. Would probably be hard for Apple to make it a profitable business. Apple should instead by a studio like warner bros.

I think we're past the days when CPU and GPU speeds were the limiter, like it was in the 90's and 2000's. Back then, you often had to upgrade just to play the latest games.

My PC gaming rig is 5 or 6 years old, and I can still play every game acceptably well. Game devs generally know how to scale game performance to accommodate the wide range of systems out there. These days, you upgrade your hardware so that you can see better graphical detail on games you can already run.
I have a gaming laptop that has a 4k screen, best gpu and processor. what I think Apple can improve on over other PC makers is making a laptop that would be thin, lightweight, less noisy and still powerful enough to play most first gen titles. that would be my dream Mac laptop.

There’s exactly zero people that would think, “Hey, I’ve heard that game is available PC, Consoles, AND the Mac. I’m going to choose to spend at least a thousand dollars to buy it for the Mac rather than spend less money and playing it on the PC or on a console.”

Gaming CAN drive unit sales due to exclusivity, but there’s no publisher that’s going to make a game exclusively on a system that first requires the user to purchase over a thousand dollars worth of equipment.
Did you know that apple gaming is already really popular on the ipad and iphone? they will in next few years have close to 180 millions subscribers to apple arcade. If you make the games, people will play and pay to own better macbooks. Gaming is a very profitable industry. Apple could definitely expand into this and make a dent into laptop gaming. https://www.macrumors.com/2022/06/1...ment bank's analyst, and 70 million for gaming.

Why not just vote with your wallet and complain about something else- Apple products in MR forums, like me 😉.
I’d be willing to bet that there’s a lot of folks buying games they hear other early access and first purchasers buying that they know to be bad (Madden 2022) just to be in on that hot take action! :)

And, it is your opinion that a game… available on multiple platforms… would cause an individual to BUY an expensive MacBook in order to play it?

Maybe not buy, but they could certainly work together. Imagine a switch-like device with an A12 chip running a skinned clone of iOS. That would bring fidelity and battery life Nintendo currently can only dream about.

But that would be a very different business model for Apple...

And Nintendo. They tried that early on with their partnership with Sony. Sony got hosed b/c Nintendo ended up ditching them for Panasonic. Nintendo got hosed b/c Sony wanted sizeable royalties since they claimed it was their media that they were working with. FWIW, the Play Station ended up proving itself, and Nintendo ended up doing 3 generations of gaming on optical discs.

Furthermore with joint hardware ventures, both companies are too much "control freaks", or vertically integrated to want to do that. Nintendo did put some of their games on iOS, but those are games that are much better suited for touch screen (e.g. Pokemon Go, Super Mario Run), the expectations of the mobile market (e.g. they won't charge an upfront price of $60). These games will not compete with the games on their own hardware.

Good! apple deserves better
No, they really don't.... not after they gave the world the Pippin.

I dunno. But Metal was introduced 8 years ago and seemingly it's gotten no traction (as far as making Macs or the Apple ecosystem the gaming platform of choice). Again, Apple's been promoting that their products/platform (iPoud Touch, Apple Arcade) is unbelievably breathtakingly awesome and would make other platforms obsolete (or at least a tiny minority)...yet here we are.
Metal doesn't solve Apple's **** GPU's and lack of consumer priced desktops with better graphic options that enable gaming that makes Windows gaming a viable market.

I do have to say, graphics with Apple silicon have made gaming much better and overall performance better. If games were actually custom tuned for Macs it could make gaming more of a thing, and owning EA to do that would potentially drive more hardware sales while rolling in the deep profits of games.

And it's not like anyone can screw up EA anymore than it already is.

They haven't had very far to fall, EA were garbage in the late 1990s, just look at what they did with Ultima 9
Not really. They were putting out some pretty good/great stuff back then. The Janes Simulation series was rock solid and was well regarding as some of the best flight sims of its era. Need For Speed was also getting high marks. They had Madden and the other sports titles that were very good especially on the consoles. Not everything a company bangs out is going to be great or even good. Even the mighty Nintendo cranks out a dude now and then.

Things started getting bad around 2005 (about the time they started signed exclusive sports deals), IMO.

PLEASE!!! EA ruined BF series with BF2042. I will never forgive them for killing a part of me when they did that.
2042 and portal are dumpster fires for sure but I would go even further and say they ruined it starting with BF1, BF5 was even worse and then 2042 well.

Removing private servers, 3rd party anti cheat and clans/platoons was their downfall. I dont know what smooth brain thought it was a good idea to remove the aspect that helped build a community base and keep players engaged.

The graphics and map design in BF1 was really really good. The rest of it sucked. 😔
