Who wants to pick up your trash bags every week? Who wants to clean the effluent of the dirty water you flush? Who wants to stand at a cash register for hours on end and push buttons? Who wants say, "Can I take your order?" hundreds of times a day?

Exactly. Lowest class jobs are very unpopular in better developed countries. And more and more on the brink of extinction.

Based off your feelings? It will be MUCH more expensive and will effect the rest of the world's pricing.

And what? Would sky be falling down? NO.

Market would find new price/volume level and things would go further. People would not dump phones every other year and keep it year or two longer. Apple cash hoards would be a bit reduced, China would be forced to manage its local economy other way as other produces would follow and would not be able to say more There would be no Christmas without us.

Globe would not stop spinning.

Stop sending jobs to China. It is a hostile authoritarian entity that will come for us all eventually. I feel sorry for the people there.

Hey Apple, here's a novel idea: If you just make your **** in a country that doesn't have major human rights issues, maybe you won't ever have to deal with things such as this!

Won't happen. The overprivileged Americans and other Westernized hipsters love socialism and China. They don't think anything is wrong with the social credit system and think those who have opposing viewpoints should be silenced. Socialism is the pathway to communism and you can only have socialism / communism when you strip people of their self-worth.

It will forever be the irony of history how the capitalist greed led to the rise of China. But at least the people all of a sudden have issues with it, now.

Too US American, in a nutshell. Nationalism and populism but in a different region. Agreed, there can be only one three year old shouting on the international political landscape.

I just read the first paragraph about nationalism on wikipedia and it sounds pretty good to me. It seems like all countries would want to aspire to nationalism, unless they seek to be a vassal state of some other nation and have little national identity.

If Apple is abiding by the laws then the anger should be directed towards those who make tax laws. If Apple truly is cheating and not paying the tax as required by law then they should be punished.

But they shouldn’t “pay more” just because they’re a collection of some of the worlds brightest and smartest people who figured out how to game the tax code. :). Fix the real problem which is the tax law.

Have Apple and the other corporations agreed to not lobby against fixing the tax law?

The person I replied to was implying that few would want to work in an Apple factory in the US. My rhetorical question disputed his thesis.

That’s not going to work with one of the biggest publicly traded companies in the world of capitalism. It’s expected to grow, and keep growing.
Losing 30-40% of its customer base plus keeping the profits in check, is like to see that business plan in detail.

On the other hand, once you get rid of stocks and shareholders you might have a shot. Until then, unlikely.

It’s exact what China is working on. Nationalism worked terrible for us Germans, a while ago. We learned some lessons there. But sure feel free to pursue that route instead of learning from history. Nationalism is clearly what holds is back but that’s a longer discussion for another day. Enjoy your journey.

Yup. And I posted to point out the obvious common knowledge. In developed countries low class jobs are not appreciated. Several folks here even described the manufacturing of electronics here as slave labour.

I am Canadian and I would say most "Americans and other Westerners" do not "love socialism" or China. People in Western countries lose jobs to China and for most Westerners "socialism" means universal healthcare and unemployment insurance (human rights issues not political issues).

Make the stuff in the USA! And NO, it is not that much more expensive. And Apple, pay your taxes.
Yeah. Show me one item made in US that is not overpriced for what it is. The items I can think of off the top of my head are Tesla, McIntosh, Airstream, and Gibson Guitars

Funny, that is what the world thinks about America.

Oh, and you are in absolutely no position to tell China anything.
Please provide me with an example where America was claiming that they are a "developing country" in the past 70 years.
Thank you in advance.

Yeah, especially their national security "law" includes the whole world whether they are residents of China or not. In addition, the "law" also covers anyone no matter where they are located.
Yup, they own the world...

you need to watch Bloomberg’s article on this specifically. The employment and economies of scale is NOT in favour of US citizens being paid well or even decently. I know you’re not ready to pay$200-500 premium on all models across the product lineup to suit American made lol.

a small auto-assembly plant maybe. But that’s it.

At the very least in this current situation, these workers will have great rest and time to even further themselves or potentially get paid while resting :) their sooo underpaid.

Probably at the pint when it makes financial sense for his company. Like the computer they already made in the states. Case closed.

case NOT closed. That so calles computer - Apple Mac Pro Trash can is no longer “assembled” (never was Made: chips, motherboards, transistors, ssd, ram, NOT mad win USA) is no longer in production.

so which computer that Apple “makes” are you talking out of your tuba with here??

sing us a sweet song with a clarinet or flute that shows us which computer is made in the USA by Apple?

Yup, all great stuff. While George Orwell spins in his grave just for the crap we do in the west, there’s always gonna be the one regime that manages to up this crap one more.

China and India have beef. Recently they were killing each other at altitude with sticks and clubs with nails in them and it seems India faired worse.

Likely a contributing factor as to why India are doing this... I don’t blame them.

According to news reports, 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives, but no one seems to know anything other than, there were Chinese casualties.

I’m sure there’s more to this story but if I had to decide which country to trust, it’s India all the way. How can anything this Communist state say be believed? I mean recently, didn’t they just come out with something like, ‘actually we got our Covid-19 death figures wrong. They should be increased by EXACTLY 50%’... Absolute joke.

There needs to be some serious introspection by western governments and corporations in particular (including Apple and Dell), to prevent this reliance on China for manufacturing. I mean in GB, Huawei are still on course to have involvement in 5G tech deployment. HOW UTTERLY SHORT SIGHTED! Changes must be made as swiftly as possible.

Great point! But I would offer a similar argument - do we direct our frustration at Apple (or their lobbyists) or at the government that allows and supports that kind of influence? Additionally, the need to "fix" the tax law depends on which side of that law you reside. As a citizen and a consumer, I think Apple could probably share a bit more of their success beyond all of the direct jobs and indirect supply chain benefits their products provide. But I also think we should direct our concern to the tax and lobby laws instead of a single organization.

If you follow Apple news you would know that Apple would do that but all that supliers are in China or around and other advantage is ability to ramp up production fast as they can hire hoards of people easily. That is not cost what stops that.

But in case of India, Apple needs to produce there to get traction there otherwise has to pay high import taxes. That kill sales.

I'll bet that won't kill sales when everyone in India revolts since they can't get their USA produced iPhone in India.

Who wants to pick up your trash bags every week? Who wants to clean the effluent of the dirty water you flush? Who wants to stand at a cash register for hours on end and push buttons? Who wants say, "Can I take your order?" hundreds of times a day?

And where is this infrastructure in the US that can manufacture roughly 600,000 iPhones everyday (in addition to manufacturing other Apple products) that can turn on a dime and go significantly higher for new releases and Christmas?

The Chinese government invested many billions creating manufacturing infrastructure decades ago. One company has 400,000 employees in one location. How will that come about in the US.

And how much extra will you be willing to pay to have your phone manufactured by American Labor? Pick a number.

For a moment I thought you were talking about Huawei's CFO Meng Wanzhou being holed up in CANADA on silly political charges for breaking AMERICAN sanctions in Iran… or about Pompeo acting as if Hong Kong were a US state.

But then I realized you are just as clueless as most people about the extent to which the US controls this world, sets its own rules for everyone else, and finally makes itself an exemption to any of those rules. American exceptionalism, gravity does not apply to us.

Yeah, especially their national security "law" includes the whole world whether they are residents of China or not. In addition, the "law" also covers anyone no matter where they are located.

Yeah, they should have learned from that Chinese spy Xuedan or Snowden or whatever his name was, about all those Chinese spy programs like Xkeyscore, Prism, Echeleon and all those Chinese operations. The Chinese even tapped Frau Merkel's phone! Or wait… was that…?

I mean in GB, Huawei are still on course to have involvement in 5G tech deployment. HOW UTTERLY SHORT SIGHTED!

As for corona, the US is in absolutely no position to point fingers to anyone. They are the laughing stock of the world right now. I mean, how seriously effed up can it be?

How can anything this Communist state say be believed? I mean recently, didn’t they just come out with something like, ‘actually we got our Covid-19 death figures wrong. They should be increased by EXACTLY 50%’... Absolute joke.

Not really arguing with their decision to ban TikTok and WeChat, that was well deserved as those are notorious for their privacy abuses.

But one thing I really don't get is why they banned DuckDuckGo in India now. DDG has no ties with China (no employees there at all and they're banned there for refusing to censor searches). Considering the timing it is probably related to all these measures against China but I really don't see the link to China with DuckDuckGo.

India is well known for its Internet censorship and corruption. I think it was an opportunity to ban a search engine that doesn't filter out results like Google does.

What evidence makes your trust US's COVID 19 figure more than China's? Curious to know.
Figures supplied by the Trump gang are as suspect as any authoritarian clinging to power.

But, in the US there are alternative sources that are reliable: select state governments, university researchers and a variety of news sources (not Fox).
