I'm simply inferring that this was all about pushing the XR (successful or not).
Apple simply saw the opportunity to redirect new purchases to a higher cost model by removing the one a particular market segment would otherwise buy in preference. And are releasing the stock now that exercise is over.

Apple's biggest sellers in India are iPhone 6s and SE - same phone different shells/sizes. Price - 6S $400, SE $240. The X-series, dead at $1200+! Average smartphone price in India is $155!
India or not; why would the 6s be poplar? Compared to the SE; it's slower, less battery life, bulkier, more expensive...
Even on the 'standard' website; it's always been weird how Apple have kept both the 6s and 7 along with the 8 series.

This is awesome for several reasons:
- Apple will not dump perfectly functioning devices in landfills (good for the environment);
- If they sell well, it just might encourage Apple to rethink both their pricing strategy and physical iPhone sizes for the future.

Consider the Apple Watch S4 should be close to the performance of iPhone SE. I wonder if they could use the S4, or S5, in what Apple calls SiP ( System in package ). The whole iPhone SE Logic Broad Shrink its size to 1/5th. Leaving lots more space for Battery. And Apple likely it to make the iPhone SE even thinner, sort of like iPad Pro thickness or even less. Shrink the bezel a little bit more, Calling it iPhone Air or iPhone Classic?

There are people who wants their Smartphone not as a devices for Video, Movies or Games. Some just use it to read emails, text, WhatsApp, and may be music.

Trying to sell a thinnest and smallest iPhone for $399, or more like $499 which is the same price as Apple Watch S4 with cellular.

Apple should hire You, I need navigation and text and phone and safari. That’s it, iphone classic is what I want!

"awesome" really? why do you think before this Apple were doing "dump perfectly functioning devices in landfills" that never happened you're saying that fictitious thing to make Apple look good now.

Four months after Apple stopped selling the iPhone SE, the beloved device has made a sudden return to Apple's online store.

iphone-se-unlocked-800x507.jpg

Apple is offering the iPhone SE with 32GB of storage for $249 and with 128GB of storage for $299 on its clearance store in the United States. These are brand new, unopened, and unlocked models with unchanged tech specs, including a 4-inch Retina display, A9 chip, Touch ID, and 12-megapixel rear camera.

Prior to being pulled, the iPhone SE was available with 32GB and 128GB of storage for $349 and $449 respectively, so Apple is offering $100 to $150 off. The device was originally released in March 2016 and was popular among fans of smaller smartphones and those who preferred the iPhone 5-like design.

It's unclear why Apple is selling the iPhone SE again, but it would appear to be clearing out stock. The iPhone SE remains on sale at select authorized resellers, as reflected on Apple's compare iPhone models page when the iPhone SE is selected.

Of course, with Apple recently lowering its revenue guidance for the quarter just ended due to fewer iPhone upgrades than it anticipated, speculation will certainly mount that Apple is doing everything it can to boost iPhone sales.

While many customers have hoped for a so-called iPhone SE 2, with some rumors suggesting one was in the works, oft-accurate Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo cast doubt on the possibility of a new iPhone SE last year. And in July of last year, one research firm said Apple abandoned its plans for a new iPhone SE.

Apple is offering the iPhone SE in Silver, Space Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold, with delivery or in-store pickup available by next week.

As of now, this appears to be U.S. only.

Purchased the silver 128gb. I wanted space grey but it was already sold out when I saw the post on macrumors. I received the XS as a gift for Christmas and I had to return it.

Couldn’t adjust to the beefed up size of it. Face ID was a little bit of a turnoff but mainly it was just a bulky phone. I’m one of those people who uses phone for same 3 or 4 things (phone, email, text, browse news articles).

SE 2 with a better camera and processor would be my ideal phone. Bigger is not always better.

Can anyone help me with trade-in info? The Apple rep wasn’t all that helpful.

I have an instore pickup date of Jan 25. I intend to bring my iPhone 6s (that will be fully backed up to iCloud) to trade in for a store credit card.

My only issue is.. I had to purchase the iphone and do in store pick up so that my store would have it. Otherwise - I don’t think my local Apple store would have received a single unit.

When I get to the store do I ask to return the iphone se that I’m picking up, trade in my 6s, and repurchase se with iPhone 6s store credit card (hopefully $100 off).

Does that make any sense? Sorry if it’s unclear.

Desperate times... No, actually, it's still a great little phone. Now they need to take the XR design, shrink it down to around the SE size, and watch how many people buy it. I'm not a small phone person but I think there's a big enough market to justify an SE2. I actually think if they stuffed the A11 processor, upgraded camera, added an upgraded display to wide gamut, they could sell this thing fro $400-$450 all day.

Shoot at that price, I'm nearly tempted to pick up a 128GB.

An iPhone XR Mini would be great. It would mean there were two iPhone XR tier phones, and two iPhone XS tier phones. Quite a good lineup.

Yes, would love something like that.

I made a post about a SE line-up and the high end line-up.
But they could use the Air monicker instead of SE, and make an air and a pro line-up. Or like I stated a se and pro line-up for iPhone, MacBook and iPad.

Bought my SE a month ago, obviously not directly from apple, and I couldn’t be happier. If the screen would be full sized, it would be perfect. I think Apple is testing demand by clearing stock now, and hopefully will find out that the XR should have been the SE 2 and not an expensive, crippled down Xs in a size between the Xs and Xs Max...

Even on the 'standard' website; it's always been weird how Apple have kept both the 6s and 7 along with the 8 series.

Both because of their price and (audio) headphone jack.

iPhone SE because of its size; pocketable size with easy access to all areas of the screen with normal to small size hands.

iPhone 6S because it fits the "large" concept for those who want one that is not a phablet.

Paying anything more for a fancy, fragile camera computer that is also a phone is useless, too expensive - and they've found that the social status that these are supposed to give is not a thing.
[doublepost=1547987402][/doublepost]Expect new stock soon - Apple is diverting all stock from Indian warehouses:D:cool:!

They were literally going to ship it; now they are flying it in in smaller air cargo size. So, not two months out!:)

This

is

a

rumor site!;):):p

How cool will it be if it happens to be true and unlimited stock becomes available in a week;):)! Yeah!:D
[doublepost=1547987801][/doublepost]Apple does know that the is no rule compelling it the upgrade the A-chip every year! Make other improvements from the first release for the second and third year models.

Flush camera still a must for the next SE avatar.

If so, then I stand corrected ... guess I’ll be headed over to eBay to buy one for $150 then?

EDIT: just checked eBay. Nothing like that exists. They’ve all got something sketchy going on ... not capable of Apple Care +, activated overstocks in sealed boxes? Definitely not brand new Apple devices.

Yes, that is definitely the problem with those units. That is why these units from Apple clearance were gone so quickly - especially the 128 GB models because they also prefer to keep their content in the phones, not the cloud.

I think there is a market for the XR, but there is also a market for a 5 inch SE full screen iPhone.
But instead of developing an entire new XR , spending R&D, different production lines, etc. Apple should have kept the regular/last years iPhone X around for about $800, and pice the XS max around $949 and the max for 1049, and should have made a 5 inch x-type(but with the same kind of boxy chassis of the SE) for around $500-600 with the a11 and one camera(same module as the X), so basically a 5 inch iPhone X , without the second camera and 3Dtouch and a 326PPI LCD, and the straight line frame of the SE(and this years iPad Pro).It wouldn’ T be as cheap as the SE , but they could have made it a premium device for all the people that love small high end phones. My guess is that all the love for the SE is more about size than the price. For the people that want a we for the price, apple would have alternatives like the iPhone 7 or iPhone 8 around.

My idea, update iPhone SE with specs, camera, cpu .. ram etc and make front screen all side to side ... with finger print reader and this will sell like HOT CAKES!

Same size as it is now, but bezel free = perfect phone !

Apple thinks they are listening to the public by selling lower-cost phones but just to clarify Tim, we didn't mean old phones you don't support anymore..
You are absolutely not getting what is happening here.

It's the same thing every time Apple drops a product: It disappears from the store, and a few months later all the remaining phones that are in storage somewhere, or may have been in transport when the product was dropped, turn up on the refurbished store or as clearance item. There are none produced anymore. There won't be any produced anytime in the future.

We will see how long they stay on sale. The MacBook Pro 17" was avaiable at a very good price for over a year until they were sold out. If everyone who complained that it was removed from the store had bought one, they would have been gone in a week.

I honestly can't find the source beyond a back-and-forth between two MR articles-I even checked the Apple Newroom. I was referring to the citing of the article MR was basing their wording of "discontinued". It might be in the Keynote, but I'm not sure since I didn't watch it.

Apple do not really say they are discontinuing a product. They just remove it from their websites.
This is just Macrumors interpreting Apple's action.

The iPhone 5s has been available in India the whole time, f.ex.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the current new iPhones not selling?
No, it's something that Apple does every time a product is cancelled. In a few months, there will be iPhone X (not XS) appearing on the refurbished store. Would be stupid to buy them now; in three months people will look at them as a bargain (probably $799 or so) and buy them.
[doublepost=1547990622][/doublepost]
This just proves Apple has no real strategy. They just keep making knee jerk decisions.
As I said, the same thing happened with the iPhone SE as with any other discontinued product. A few months after being discontinued, every Apple product turns up in the refurbished store. Not knee jerk decision, but planned from the start.

What about 5G? All these devices will be outdated?
They are certainly not thinking about the market or their customers.

This is USA - they still haven't established the 4G towers as needed in the cities and suburbs, in 2019.

5G needs about 5-6 times relay towers as 4G to manage coverage - I might be low-balling the needed towers.

So, don't worry, even if the technology arrives, it will not be available for another 3-5 years in full coverage mode.

At that time, get the latest iPhone with 5G of the times.

They were thinking of the customers until iPhone 5S; by releasing the SE again, even in clearance mode, they are again thinking about the consumers.

Apple will know the temperature of the people, get a marketing sense of what they can sell with this little "stunt", and plan better for a bi-annual release of the SE sized models. We are not renewing annually customers, but we are "many" in number.

No it won't. If the SE was selling like hot cakes, Apple would've continued the lineup. They didn't.

Do I like the SE form factor? Heck yes. But majority of the market have spoken. Even budget Android phones are going large. We just have to accept that the X/XS size is going to be the "smallest" iPhone going forward.
