And, they almost sell out immediately. Which should send Apple a message to produce a new, good, low cost iPhone.
There is no doubt that Apple could sell a lot of low cost iPhones. That phone is down from $349 to $249. But Apple doesn't want to sell a lot of phones, they want to make profit.

No it won't. If the SE was selling like hot cakes, Apple would've continued the lineup. They didn't.
Do you have any sales figures that indicate that the SE wasn't selling well? Pure sales figures are not the only factor that goes into the decision of whether or not a product will continue. Based on Apple's direction of their flagship phones, the production of the SE appeared to be a "tactical" move only intended to exist for a short time. It might've even been simply a "market research" tool to see how consumers would respond to it.

Do I like the SE form factor? Heck yes. But majority of the market have spoken. Even budget Android phones are going large. We just have to accept that the X/XS size is going to be the "smallest" iPhone going forward.
The majority of the market hasn't spoken. A consumer cannot buy something that isn't offered. In order to draw a conclusion that the majority of the market wants phablets, Apple would have had to offer two iPhones identical in all ways except for screen size. They didn't. Although I was delighted with my SE, most here couldn't get past the fact that (A) it used an older chassis and (B) didn't have the latest and greatest internals.

There were too many variables to conclude that it was simply screen size that was the determining factor.

Good point, however, the 128GB are not in stock which leaves only the 32GB which is not large enough for me.
This ($249) is not a particularly good price. The no-contract carriers that offered the iPhone SE (like VirginMobile and BoostMobile) were offering the SE for $150. New. No contract. Since they never needed to be activated, I bought a few as gifts to be used as an iPod Touch.

Got one...less storage than I prefer but I'm invested in iCloud so it'll be OK.

Will these come with the iOS they originally had or does Apple send 'em out with the latest iOS version? If they come with older iOS version, leave it or upgrade to latest? Thanks for any opinions...

Anyone else think this move is strange?

I can't remember another time that Apple discontinued a device, then months later, start to sell it again as clearance.

Cooks new world order. Throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks. BTW it was not really discontinued, they still manufactured it for India. They only discontinued it in America because they thought us Americans were idiots and would buy the outrageously expensive models instead (at least for those of us that like small phones).

If apple would just ask users they would design things that can sell. iPhone se size, better processor and complete front of all screen. Increase usable viewing space by 30% from current se. They would sell like Hot cakes on a wintry night.

That doesn’t even make sense. Apple is one of the largest companies on the planet. I think they’ve figured out how to sell things. As for the ‘best’ size for a phone, that’s totally subjective, but anecdotally, I can tell you that I know a host of people who think the X/XS is the perfect size. Personally, I like the size of the 8/XSMax, but really like the near full screen of the max. While I obviously don’t know everyone, I am surrounded by iPhone users at work, church, my entire family from teenage kids to aging parents, and the only one who wouldn’t much prefer something bigger than the SE is my wife, who still loves her XR, but wouldn’t freak out if I have her back her 7.

IMO, what people would love MUCH more than a smaller size phone is a smaller BUDGET phone, something that has solid tech that will last them several years and not cost as much as a decent laptop. Again, though, I’m admittedly mostly in touch with my own sphere of 40-50 iPhone users.

Hahahaha!....old stock becomes new stock overnight.

In a 100 years, archeologists will probably unearth a mountain of hidden and unopened 2013 Mac Pro's...

The iPhone 5S was selling like hotcakes, Next came the big and bigger 6; people who needed the 4" screen, still bought the 5S.

With the 6S series, they should've sold the SE; they waited. But when it was released much later, it sold out!

Then Apple also got megalomania - it wanted to dictate what size the people should buy, and it wanted huge profit margin for their entire line. That attitude is why Apple killed the SE in the USA, not because of lack of sales.

Majority might want phablets; you can't make that statement without offering all three sizes and prove that the smallest did not sell well.
No market majority has spoke to condemn the SE - it just was not available in the updated model..

SE2 in better configuration can still sell for a good profit - these high profit, fragile, heavy, $1500+ iPhones ($2000-2500 outside the USA) are not the sustainable models, this being proved currently. The "very old" SE comes in the clearance bin and sells out in hours.

Hmm, if both carriers are no-contract carriers, then I could consider going that same route with the more "recent" models.

agree with this about the 32gb offer. i picked up two silver 32gb SE's during black friday at walmart for $80/each. they were for family members. no contract, but need to initially sign up for service through walmart offered service for oe year before unlocking. so, signed them up at the $25/mth plan, which uses t-mobile.

nobody that i know offers the 128 gb version, which is what i had tried to get just now through apple.

Look, we can call this Apple desperate to do this if we insist, but honestly I think that's just plain stupid.

We spend a very large amount of time on this board telling Apple to lower prices, and we also frequently tell them to offer a smaller phone. They just did both. This is great news no matter how you slice it.

Sure, I would've liked to see an A12 chip in the iPhone SE size, but I just can't deny that this is a great, cheap, wonderful little phone that fits the needs of millions and millions and millions of people, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Welcome back iPhone SE. You were sorely missed.

Picked up a silver 128GB last night. Going to use as a backup and for around the house.

Apple really needs something in the 400 range to be able to compete - they just need to dump high end features and let users decide what they want.

How soon after this was posted did you check? I checked like 2 hours after and they were all gone :(

Last year I upgraded from the SE to the Xr but keeping the SE with a second number for the times I need a or want a smaller phone. Actually if I had to choose between the 2 I can tell you I would never ever go back to SE size. The Xr is just so much better but of course as well so much more expensive at the same time. You must be able to afford such a luxuary item.

IN regard to the article. I am under the impression Apples iPhone strategy this year is not spot on. Maybe they misjudged the market.

I also upgraded to the XR...for a week, and then returned it. I hated that boat anchor in my front pants pocket.

Missed the sale, but the day they announced the SE was history, I went straight to the local Apple store to buy one just to sit sealed on the shelf.

THIS!!! It's not a problem with the Xs or Xs Max since they essentially have the same camera but I know so many people who have a 7 Plus or 8 Plus who actually wanted a 7 or 8 but made the decision to purchase the larger phone in order to have 2X zoom and portrait mode, myself included.

Yes, I know I could have gotten an X but I was hesitant about Face ID, the notch, and an all new design. This was my decision so no need for everyone who loves their X to come out and bash me saying Face ID is far superior and the notch is not even noticeable.

If Apple offered the dual lens camera on both sized phones in the 7 or 8 series, I truly believe that the perceived demand for phablets would dramatically decrease. Although to be fair, it seems the Xs Max has been outselling the Xs but I believe that is because people who wanted the largest phone with Face ID rushed out and bought it while people haven't seen a huge reason to upgrade to the Xs.

Now if Apple released a phone the size of an SE with 2X zoom and portrait mode, I would purchased it immediately. Ideally, all I want/need from my phone is for it to be easily carried around, the ability to check emails, messages, social media, and to take good pictures.

If I want to watch videos or do anything else that requires a larger screen, I'll use an iPad or laptop. That being said, since I compromised and went with the larger phone, I decided not to replace my aging iPad at the same time. If a smaller phone had the features I wanted, I would have bought that and a new iPad.

Apple thinks they are listening to the public by selling lower-cost phones but just to clarify Tim, we didn't mean old phones you don't support anymore..
Its hard to believe this incorrect post has received 45+ likes - - are there really that many MacRumors forum users out of touch?

Apple has broken the glass behind which is a stash of iPhone SE's... which were saved in the event the company was having a meltdown.

Scratching and clawing.

Tim, how's your resume coming?
Apple is merely getting rid of excess inventory. Having a lot of inventory of an item the company is no longer making is not practical or prudent. There is no meltdown.
