I wish there was a 42mm version of this, it so much smarter than the classic buckle…
Amen to that. It looks so much better than the regular strap and won't develop that worn-out, kinked bit in the band either. Plus, colours! I love the look of the midnight blue leather.

Luxury fashion items all have huge markups. It's a great piece of engineering but not something I'd buy, especially since I consider any clothing-related item expensive if it's more than $20.

I just ordered a top-grain brown suede leather strap off Amazon for $25 for my 42mm Sport. I can't imagine why anyone would pay so much for a band when it costs almost as much as the watch itself. I prefer diversity, I might want to swap bands on a regular basis, and I'm not going to pay $250 or more for each one. I wear mine 23 hours a day during all activities that don't involve water, so I want something I can replace without breaking the bank. I just want the band to look nice, a $50 "knock off" looks just as good to me as a $250 upmarket. I'm not trying to finance somebody's lavish lifestyle, I'd rather donate the difference to charities.

What an utterly silly comment! You do realised the value of money is entirely relative don't you? Relatively, the amount some people are spending on these bands is no more than what some people would happily spend on a coffee, which is in itself what some people in the world would live on for a day. The value the band brings is also relative, if you enjoy it, it may well be worth it to you.

A lot of my mates like cars and will happily spend tens of thousands on them. I don't like cars and drive a wreck (a safe one), but I do like Apple products and strippers. Neither of us are wrong, just different.

If you have the free income, spend it on whatever you want. No one can tell you its stupid.

Exactly. I wouldn't pay such a price for a watch band, but I wouldn't criticize people who do, because perhaps they can afford it. I still think there's a better way to spend their money, rather than practically give it away to people who don't need it, but I won't judge them, because somebody could judge me for buying any Apple product considering how much markup is involved. Only costs $85 to build an Apple Watch, let's not forget. Only costs $185 to build an iPhone. Yet how much are we paying for these products again? But that's true for ALL electronics. So be careful who you call an idiot, because there are probably a million people waiting in line to label you the same thing.

I think Apple is ripping people off with these watchbands. I bought the sports watch and like it a lot. But I went band shopping at the Apple Store and was surprised to find the costs of additional bands.

Went searching on Amazon and purchased an awesome metal band for like $39 and a black soft band (like the white Apple Band for $49) on sale for like $12.

$249 for a band? get out of here!

Go to Amazon people.
Bill

Apple ripping people off???? That's MADNESS!!!!

The news on this watch is dying down. Once Apple realizes that this thing is too expensive prices will drop and they will discontinue that silly extremely overpriced gold watch. What a money grab.

Well I doubt they will discontinue it. The gold one in particular was never expected to be a volume item, nor (I think) to generate any kind of significant revenue for Apple. Just a prestige/vanity special piece.

But, I sort of agree with you that the hype is dying down and if it really does take Apple another 2-3 years to update the Apple Watch as many are saying, I expect sales to get very low (by most accounts they aren't exactly setting anything on fire right now).

I honestly wish they had taken all the resources they put into the watch and put it into AppleTV, accompanying services, and gaming instead. I like the Apple Watch but I don't feel the need or desire to buy one, a sentiment seemingly shared by a lot of people, Apple fans included.

To me that gold watch hurts Apple more than it helps them even if a few celebrities buy them (and from the looks of it they don't wear it). It's so overpriced it's a complete joke

See that's the very problem.

You're adjusting yourself to the device. Fundamentally, the device should adjust to you.
It's rather inconvenient limiting yourself with all the available features just to save battery life...
The device is designed to be subtle and not be intrusive, yet you'll always have to worry about it.

It's disappointing that the term "smart" to any device lowers expectations in the battery department...

I think you have to adjust to the reality of what the device does and the limits of today's technology. Otherwise, why stop at wanting a device that lasts a week? Why not a month? A year?

This stuff isn't arbitrary. Apple Watch owners understand the trade off... they need to charge their devices more frequently but in return their devices offer far more features and capabilities than traditional watches.

As for always worrying about battery life, if you read the forums, you'll see that Apple Watch owners never worry about it; it's the non-owners who seem the most worried.

2 or 3 years? it's very likely it's upgraded every year..don't see why it wouldn't.

The fact an update software wise is happening in the fall says alot.

Thats why it's rumoured apple won't increase battery life as mostly all watch owners are happy with battery life

The same sentiment is also shared by some people about the iPhone, the iMac, the MacBooks etc.

Hey guess what? I wouldn't want to live without my Apple Watch. I've lost a bunch of weight because of it, and it integrates superbly into my lifestyle.

I bought the Leather Loop SS for me. Wife got the Modern Buckle SS watch. We both love ours. No regrets.

Yes, because the money you give Apple is ONLY used for the BOM (which alone is higher than $185... Better research more), you have to assemble it yourself, service it yourself, send Apple the designs, give them the capital investment for manufacturing, build your own apps (since you got no app store & they're not supporting devs), build your own OS, etc (look at the financial report for all the other costs).

In the financial report, you got less than 20% profits before taxes... Where did all that other money you think is useless going? Yoga retreats?

Apple today began selling the 38mm Modern Buckle band on a standalone basis, marking the first time the Modern Buckle band has been available for purchase since the Apple Watch launched on April 24.

Over the course of the last several months, all other bands have become readily available, but the Modern Buckle bands in all sizes and colors has continued to say "Currently unavailable," with no prospective ship date given. The only way to get a Modern Buckle band prior to this morning was to purchase it alongside an Apple Watch.

The Modern Buckle is made from Granada leather sourced from a single small tannery in France, which may explain why it has been available in such limited quantities. The Modern Buckle also includes a unique magnetic buckle closure and the leather of the band is reinforced with Vectran weave to keep it from stretching.

All sizes and colors of the Modern Buckle band -- including Brown, Black, Soft Pink, and Midnight Blue -- are in stock. Orders placed today will deliver between August 24 and September 1, with in-store pickup being unavailable at this time.

They always have with all of their accessories, not just these bands. Whether it is their own brand or the brands they sell online/in-store, you are getting ripped off. Plenty of equivalents (or better) sold from other brands at other locations.

Bingo!

I don't care how much someone likes Apple, this price is just ****ing ridiculous. Anyone who buys a band for THIS much is a ****ing idiot. There is no way around that.

We all have our things. I would never buy a watch in this price range.

But I'll buy a $1400 rifle when I know I can get one that will do the same job for $200.

I also wouldn't spend $5 to see any NFL or MLB game anywhere. Would you spend $5 on that? You would probably say that was a good deal. Most people might pay $100 for those tickets ore more (not sure what the going prices are). It would be a waste of $5 to me, but, I would drop $150-$200 on tickets to a popular computer game convention.

I am another who has been waiting for this since day 1. I knew I wanted a Milanese strap and a Modern Buckle, but ordered the watch with the Milanese and then tried to order the Modern buckle separately. Bother - should have done it the other way around. The long wait nearly cooled my desire, but I decided yesterday that I would still order the Modern Buckle. The order page suggested that it would be a 2-3 week wait, but I have just received word that it should arrive tomorrow. Hurrah!
