It's not random.
There is the calculated risk assessment and a profitability assessment.
They'll look at your current utilization of existing credit, length of credit history, etc.
Yes those are used to determine your overall score, but some lenders will ding you even if you have a high score if they see you have a lot unused credit cards (lot of cards with zero balance). They know if they won't making money off of you.

Or, the "random" part might have been a joke.

Has anyone looked far enough ahead to see how the monthly bill is paid? Does Sachs require a bank account with the routing number to be on file? Or can my bank transfer electronically like every other recurring bill I have? Or how about my granddad who still pays everything by check. Could he pay the balance on his Apple Card (if he had one)?

You need a bank account in file by adding them with routing and account number.

You can set up monthly payment of statement due amount, I haven’t found anyway to set a recurring payment option with a custom amount.

So I have my Apple Card in my wallet on my iPhone and was able to add it to my watch as it gave me the option. I’m not able to add it to my iPad. I have other cards I’ve added but won’t let me add this one. Anyone have luck doing this?

Is your iPad updated up to iOS 12.4 and signed in with the same iCloud account you have singed apple card with?

I have my card set up on my phone, watch, and iPad.

I agree with this. However, I wonder about the mag stripe on the Apple Card. If there are no CC numbers/EXP/CVV2 on the card (VERY good, Apple!), what's in the mag stripe? If those numbers are in the mag stripe (on other cards, they are present there), then a stolen Apple Card will be very useful to anyone who can read the mag stripe.
There must be a CC number (the one whose last 4 digits you can see in the Wallet app) and very likely also the expiration date and name on the mag stripe (otherwise POS terminals would be very confused). The CVV is usually not on the mag stripe (although there is a field for it in the standard).

The lack of visible numbers on the card provides some protection against a casual scammer, but I suspect any serious card number thief will have a mag stripe reader to quickly skim the card, and of course the information can also be skimmed via a hacked POS terminal (like in the large Target breach a few years ago). All in all when using the physical card it isn't much safer than a regular card. Use Apple Pay wherever you can (much safer due to the dynamic security codes).

After signing up last week, I got the invitation email and made sure to upgrade to 12.4. I followed the instructions but says it's not available to me.

I think I know what happened. This won't affect everyone, but if you're one of the poor souls that have both an 'iCloud' email and a separate 'Store' email for app store/iTunes that they never did allow to merge (I use a @me.com sign in for when starting/restoring a phone, but a different email for my itunes/app store purchases), make sure to use your iCloud ID email address.

I was thinking 'ok this is payment stuff , I will use the itunes ID', and nope, dumb mistake. Wallet is obviously tied to the icloud @me account, so now I get to re-sign up with the correct email and wait again. :)
Same thing happened to me. I entered my iTunes Store email address instead of my iCloud email address, which I rarely check. Signed up again using my iCloud ID, so I guess I'll have to wait a little longer.

I applied and the rate and credit limit I got was pretty crappy compared to my primary credit card. Was kind of looking forward to getting one, but I’ll pass for now.

680 i got $8,000 limit. i wonder what's the criteria.
I have 845 and I only got a $9000 limit. I don’t use credit card or hold credit card debt long, so I am sure that was a major factor. Still that limit and 17.99% rate they gave me is not close to my primary credit card. I was actually planning on starting to use the Apple Card for most payments since it will be convenient to manage, but it wouldn’t make sense for me at that rate and credit.

My card arrived today and I'm curious if this thing is going to scratch easily. Seems likely. Anyone scratched theirs yet?

I put my email in last week at some point and still haven't gotten anything. I'm in no rush anyway. One thing I've noticed is they are using transunion. Transunion always gives the lowest score of the 3. I has been like that in my families case for countless yrs. I just check my credit report and the other 2 show no hard pulls for 4 yrs but transunion is still showing me having 3 but they are supposed to fall off after 2 yrs. So it's safe to say I'm pretty sure there are alot of people that's information is incorrect on their reports..

I still am at a lost as to why someone would get this above a cash back card from capital one.

Simple it is from Apple. Let’s face facts, Apple could take dog crap put it in a white box and sell it. They would have people screaming about them having trouble getting their iCrap. Other saying it is the best thing ever.

There is a reason. The iCrap joke came around and sadly has way to much truth in it.

I agree for an annual fee of $450 they can keep the card. I should have to pay a fee to use a cc. They are making enough off me as it is. Minimal because I never carry a balance

James

The fee is $450 but they give you a $300 rebate on dining and travel so the fee is really $150. With the added benefits you get that card pays for itself fast for me every year so far.

Got my card today, we went to dinner at Longhorn and put the card in the booklet and the waitress comes back after swiping it saying “That’s a really cool card, never seen one like that before”

Pretty cool reaction to what we already know, the card is bad as hell looking.
Nice way to impress the wife hahaha!
