It sounds like theyre still working out the kinks, but if you ordered from a carrier and don't want to drive hours to a store I would try calling the carrier on Friday. I know that ATT sells regular Applecare and was told they will have the product # for + on Friday. So try calling then and if there's still nothing your carrier can do, take the drive over to apple.

Hopefully the carriers can help, but I am not counting on it. I spoke to a rep at Sprint and they told me to cancel my order and re-order since they do not know how to add it separately.

Plan on calling a local Apple store Friday morning to see what's up.

I was right. Apple out of warranty is now $199 for iPhone 4S and $149 for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G and original iPhone. It's posted on their website.

In my opinion unless you are absolutely clumsy with your electronics it's not worth it.

Interesting.. thanks for posting this. As some one stated previously, its like gambling $50. I thought they were taking away this feature, but I will call Apple on Friday to confirm it's available.

Where does it say this? That's impossible if they won't let you get a replacement if it is damaged.

forgive me for being stupid but in the UK when you go to buy an iPhone 4s there is only AppleCare (normal); am i right is assuming the + now covers accidental damage as it doesnt appear in our T&C as its out of scope.

In the States AC and AC+ are separate products, so it seems as if AC+ hasn't made it to your market yet. You are correct in that AC+ covers accidental damage, the previous AC does not.

ah well thats rubbish, might ask them see what they say.

AppleCare + is a complete waste of money for the vast majority of people.

Do the math. $99 plus $49 service fee means about $150 if you accidentally damage your phone. You get 2 accidental exchanges. So total costs about $200 for two accidental damages.

No AppleCare plus. Take your chances. $199 for replacement iPhone out of warranty.

What are the chances of you damaging your phone twice in a two year period? Because the spread $50 difference for one replacement $150 (via AppleCare plus vs $199 out of warranty (no warranty).

It's an easy call. Save your money on AppleCare plus.

Plus add in credit card extended warranty free of charge that protects your iPhone for second year makes the other advantage of AppleCare plus useless (yes I have used my Amex 2nd year warranty and they gave me back the $199 plus taxes I paid apple for a real out of warranty problem (non water damage/non physical damage). So the extra year warranty didn't cost me anything.

I'm starting to agree with you. I was going to purchase it, but in 2 years of owning these phones I never had a problem and even if one arises I only lose out $50 compared if I had the warranty.

I just talked to AppleCare sales on the phone and the rep I spoke to told me it needed to be purchased at the time of sale. However she said to bring the phone into an Apple store and they "might" allow me to purchase it then. Great. I will get the phone on friday and then have to drive 90 miles to a store. It's convenient.

Call again, and call the regular 1800myapple this time.

Many of us have gotten it added...that is, if you purchased via apple.com and not a service provider?

You are misinterpreting what the article states. Apple has not changed their out of warrany
Program.

They merely are not letting genius bar to exchange out of warranty for free. So it was hit or miss if they took pity on you.

You can still get $199/149 replacement for out of warranty.

Applecare plus really doesn't change this.

I called Verizon earlier and they had me call 1800 APL CARE. The representative I spoke to at AppleCare said because of all the miscommunication, if you've purchased it through a carrier, you have till November 14th to add AppleCare+ he told me after checking with a manager. Take it for what it's worth.

Finally!

Just checked back on Apple website praying they would finally get wise and let people purchase apple care+ before the launch and this is what was on the page verbatim
"How to get AppleCare+
AppleCare+ must be purchased together with your new iPhone. To buy it, add it to your shopping cart during the checkout process when you purchase your new iPhone.

Note: AppleCare+ will be available through November 14, 2011, to customers who pre-ordered iPhone 4 (8GB) and iPhone 4S. After you receive your new iPhone, contact us at 1-800-275-2273 to purchase AppleCare+."

Has anyone who called and added apple care + had theirs ship yet? Mine is still processing.

Mine is the same, processing. I called and they told me it would be auto enrolled. It will just take a little time. I'm not quite happy with that reply. I may call back later and talk to someone in applecare and see if they can add it now.

Has anyone else had it shipped, does it show up on the website when you check your warranty status?

Mine was added after the fact by e-mailing, and is still "processing"; took a screenshot of the webpage in case issues arise later -- although note sure how much that will help since my cc hasn't been charged.

Ok I just took a screen shot as well. Will call them later today to see what answer I get. I don't like the auto enroll idea, because my original rep said I would receive a physical box and would enroll it just like other apple care.

My card hasn't been charged yet either.

Anyone get further info on this? My order is still processing as well and it does not show that my phone is covered when I look up the serial number.

Online orders have until 11/14 to decide so I'm thinking about it. It might not be worth it for me since I will absolutely get the next iPhone so it would probably benefit those that will keep their devices for more than a year.

We need to get an answer on this. I've called 3 times and they keep telling me it will be put on there. There was a hold on my debit card but it's been removed now. Order still says"processing". Maybe I'll call Applecare tomorrow and see what they say.

I am able to add AppleCare+ on ATT pre-order thru 800 APL CARE. You have to wait atleast few hours after activation for that phone to showup on Apple systems as active.

Unless you purchased/pre-ordered from Apple.com/Store, even local Apple store cannot add AC+ for you. Don't waste a trip/appointment to Apple Store.

Use ExpressLane callback rather than holding line for long period. Make sure you give your serial number correctly and ask the Apple Advisor to read it back. They will give transaction number as reference. You can go to support.apple.com and check your apple applecare registration status.

I'm sure you can buy it at the Apple store. You have at least 14 days to buy it.

I just went to an Apple store yesterday and was told to call apple to buy it. They don't have anything to "scan" so they can't sell it.

Finally got thru AppleCare today and bought AppleCare+ for the two 4S I got from Verizon. The hold time this morning was under 2 mins unlike Friday and Sat when I was on hold for over 2 hours! Don't go to the Apple store. I tried that yesterday and was told they can't sell me AC+.
