TIM put the Chinese spy microchips in all our computers. Jony found out and quit.

Haven’t there been two reports now that Ive was phoning it in since the Apple Watch launched? That I don’t doubt. Crazy thing is that they promoted him during this period.

The truth is usually much less scandalous or interesting and would get way fewer clicks....

Possibly the truth that is logical and probably boring:

Ive is "yes" a human and is over 50+years old. He has put more over-time hours into his long career and work and has reached the top of his game.

He is ready to retire. Simple.

He does not have to work until 65-70 years old to collect social security, 401k or a pension like regular people. He sacrificed family and relationships and other things for the cause...and it has paid off...quite well.. $$$$

He has also been doing the same thing for many many years...and After S. Jobs death, not as interesting anymore to push the norm. Spent most of his life in the apple design room (literally) and is ready to move on to do something else as he is over mid-life looking at what else to do as he starts to go downward where everyone eventually goes...

It doesn't matter who you are or how much success or money you have, people are people.

He is tired, now older (energy lessens) and probably bored, wants more in life. Because he can...he is doing it.

Haters and envious people will criticizes him of course, but he has worked hard for a long time, made his money, and is now ready to move on.

Plain and simple.! And the REAL reason is probably boring and would not get much click-baits. :)

Sometimes executives are promoted so they can have less responsibilities on specific things in their job description. In Ive’s case, seems like he was promoted so he can do the Apple Spaceship instead of being responsible for other stuff.
Maybe.

Amidst these claims and counterclaims, we need to hear from Jony himself. What say you, Mr Ive?
Oh, crap, of course, sir Jonathan Ive will shower us with pearls of stunning confessions made in plain straightforward language as every Apple top-level employee had demonstrated that before him. I completely forgot about this highly probable possibility. As soon as he starts speaking MacRumours will vanish into oblivion.

Not sure I care who’s right or who’s not. Apple is going the team approach without fear now so perhaps it’s good news.

At the very least the Mac Pro even priced out of reach for most is a good sign. The xdr monitor isn’t worried about thinness. Another good sign and hopefully this stuff can trickle down.

The simple fact is that Steve Jobs as CEO had a fundamental hand in the design direction of the company.

Tim Cook does not.

Simple operational and financial leadership he does not have the vision to be the spearhead of the company.

There may be talented designers but without the right person out front it is impossible to bring those things to market because the “manager” does not understand product

No, they sometimes omitted what didn't fit their beliefs and amplified what did, but they didn't report rumors & just lie about things like they do now. You never hear a retraction either! Most are Just tools of BOTH political parties in the US. Of course its not a very ;”fair fight” when 90% of the media have the same agenda as one party though...

Lies by omission are still lies. All media owners had/have agendas. Some fit what you think is trustworthy or your beliefs others don’t. The people following Sean believe him as much as the people following Rachel. I listen to Dennis Prager radio show and use to listen Michael Medved. But Medved was replace because he wouldn’t endorse a certain candidate. Salem owns the stations. Their choice. Regardless of how it’s weighted it happens on both sides.

Thank you!

Apple wasn’t perfect under Steve Jobs and it isn’t perfect now. People on here may be frustrated with Apple, but they’re still very successful and have great products.

People get older and their needs change. It’s not like Ive is going to a competitor’s company. Angela didn’t either.

They just wanted to collect their money and go. After working hard for years and years.

If you were a CEO of a company as huge as Apple, would you tolerate...
I'd have fired both long ago. Ives for bad design, Cook for not tending to core business while branching into phones and pads. This services at the expense of quality is getting too extreme for my tastes. Maybe Wozniak should return for a while.

Apple appears to be headed to that place where design Engineers are ruled by marketing. From past experience, that is not a good place.

Cook's comment is misdirection--it doesn't address the true point of the article.

Leads me to believe the WSJ article was largely accurate.

Cook did the same thing when Apple
was caught hiding money in a tax shelter in a French island. Acted indignant at being accused of hiding money in the Cayman Islands... which no one was doing. Also, didn't deny the actual tax haven accusation. He and Sculley can both brag about all the record profits they achieved post Jobs. In the end, it was as ephemeral as their product legacies.

Jony Ive wouldn’t need to start a design firm if things are working fine at  Now it needs to go through the hassle of an external client if Apple wishes to collaborate with a former Apple employee that just felt bizarre and less seamless in the process.

Tim Cook had already blown away the customer and the $999 stand is a great example.

In 2011, Steve Jobs sell you a decent $999 Thunderbolt Display. In 2019, Tim Cook sell you a $999 monitor stand without including a Thunderbolt Display.

what if he simply wants to?

why is it about whether or not things are working fine?

why is it (seemingly) a problem for you that one of the most notable designers of this century wants to start his own design firm? :gasp:

Ive always considered Tim to be the person that the public thinks they want Apple to be - graceful, diverse, nice, friendly.

But Steve wasn't many of those things - the results were what mattered.

We've been tricked into beliving that a persona is more important than the product.

People on social media - they are brand managers for their owns brands - but what do many of them actually produce?

How long can this unproductive fantasy continue? New flash - diversity is not a strength.

Give me Apples hardware division - you'll get your well thought out, serviceable products again - and some crying fired employees to boot. How about a pro line for the iPhone built for live streamers/news media (large battery / broadcast quality video camera / multi esim with separate antennas for channel bonding)

what did he say?

you might of seen something but if you’re using the word “explaining” then you must of heard something too.
?

I am not exactly sure, what are you are trying to say exactly (English might not be your first language, which is fine) but there are plenty of videos floating around web with Ive showing/explaining/talking through the new Mac Pro.

“I’m not going to run for President!”

“I’m not a crook!”

“Take a bite of the apple, it’s safe.”

“I was not on steroids.”

“We’re happy with Jony’s design priorities and wish he were staying.”

i’m saying this—

you’re seeing what you want to see.

Ive was pointing at the processor.. Cook said “ oh.. yeah, yeah.. i remember now.. it’s right next to the (inaudible)”

*paraphrased

but from the little that was audible, it’s clear t.Cook already knows about this computer and has previously discussed the technical aspects of the computer with the designers/engineers

ymmv

I believe Tim is a good man. But therein lies the danger, because I'm sure he believes he is a good man, too. And how many evils have been visited upon this world by men (or women) utterly convinced of their own moral rectitude?

You could literally say that of anyone.

Tim is basically calling WSJ fake news.
No, he's not. Your comment is complete hyperbole. He's reacting to ONE article, not the entire WSJ.

Possibly a worse place, that place where engineers, designers, and marketing are ruled by operations and financial optimization. Replay the "Innovator's Dilemma".

Poor Tim Cook may not know what he doesn't know.

So... profit does not make company thrive...? Then, what is the purpose of the company. I thought all company was made to well... make money?

It's not that simple.

For a good company, money is just a means to an end, like fuel for an engine.

Is the purpose of a movie studio to make awesome movies or are they just there to make money? What about game studios? Hospitals? Doctor offices? Restaurants? People will feel when you're just in it to squeeze money out of them and they will take their business somewhere else.
