The only source that matters is the actual source himself, which is Jony Ive. Naturally, these types of articles are going to surface when Jony Ive is leaving, because speculation starts to run amok, trying to cause problems. I don’t believe half of what I read in the media anymore, and personally, it’s none of anyone’s business between Johnny Ives departure and Tim Cook.

i still clearly remember WSJ claimed after Steve got back to Apple in 1997 that the company was doom to fail because they changed their strategy, and they kept spreading that message for at least 12 months. I still remember they said iPods was a funny and ridiculous product. See the problem is that bankers (not economists) are pretty much ignorant about technology, arts and humanity, the majority of these people are short-sighted and trying to make a big fuss and misguiding the mass
Unfortunately, the same thing is transferred to the bloggers and youtubers who are simply looking for the page hits and views, ignoring the whole picture altogether.

I don't think the WSJ article said the design team was not talented.

I think the article talked about how Ive had basically checked out over the past few years.

Cook's comment is misdirection--it doesn't address the true point of the article.

Leads me to believe the WSJ article was largely accurate.

i am no longer a shareholder, and do not have a dog in this fight.

but something monumentally stupid was claimed in that wsj article: that Cook was so uninterested in products and design, at the public launches was often where he saw products for the first time

it was supported by photo and caption: Ive standing next to Cook, looking dumbfounded, in front of a product on stand at public display

the idea WSJ offers that the CEO of the largest consumer electronics company in the world having never previously touched or even seen 1 of their products (of the very few that they have!) until launch..... between concept, design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, etc......... im actually astonished that WSJ would insult their readers intelligence like that.

Since the half Armenian Steve Jobs died, Apple is rotting.
I dont believe Tim Cook for a second here. Honestly...he seems like a great guy, but he is in no way, shape or form the next Steve Jobs and never will be. He just doesnt strike me as a person who has the passion for design and innovation steve had.

So i totally get why Johny would want to leave and seemed to not care any more with apple because his partner Steve is gone and there is no one worthy for him to bounce design and ideas off of. Tim is just not that guy.

What they need there is another Rebel, another Steve Jobs who cares more about changing the world then making a profit!

It's not that simple.

For a good company, money is just a means to an end, like fuel for an engine.

Is the purpose of a movie studio to make awesome movies or are they just there to make money? What about game studios? Hospitals? Doctor offices? Restaurants? People will feel when you're just in it to squeeze money out of them and they will take their business somewhere else.

The purpose of a company is to satisfy its owners. And in Apple's case I think the overwhelmingly majority of its owner would want, first and foremost, financial returns. Whether that's by means of being the best product manufacturer, or best services provider, is up for the owners to decide.

No surprise that the egomaniac Cook can't handle criticism

Based off what exactly? This article? I’d say Tim Cook and handle a lot more than you’re clearly not giving him credit for, Jony Ive departure does not advocate Tim Cook not being able to handle criticism. When companies have separations from long-term employees, there’s always bound to be rumors and speculation that’s not always accurate, as I mentioned before in a previous post, the only source that matters is Jony Ive and Tim Cook themselves, not some article that’s exacerbating the issue.

The WSJ ran a front page story about Apple cutting iPhone 5 orders by like 60%. The stock took a huge hit because of it. I don’t think story was ever proven to be correct.

This is not retrievable data. You will, however, find people questioning general operations at Apple omnipresent if you read through the comments of articles weekly.

Okay thanks, was just curious if there was anything to show this. I’m not sure that people who comment on Internet forums/articles are a reliable source of such a claim.

When it comes to peoples reputations, company stock performance and at its worst, riots in the streets.. the media has a LOT to answer for.

Personally, to me, what's on national television and print newspaper articles/websites these days is as credible as any internet forum poster / blogger. It's always just someones opinion, and they answer just as little to when they make mistakes and do zero to clean up the mess it causes. I don't take the pity on journalism some do because of this.

Look what it's done in the US with Trump and in the UK with leaving the EU. Caused massive outrage by winding up the populations.

Who ***** cares who, what, why, when or where? Jobs died and Ive left after being given free rein to do as he pleased. The issue might have been that he is so child-like that he needed someone to tell him what worked and what did not. He was a ship without a course plotted. I don't know or care why he left, but he definitely stayed at Apple longer than most people will ever work at the same company. All the rumors and innuendo are meaningless. It is much not bitching about missing ports and mag-safe. They are not coming back so just get over it.

...and for the naysayers look at what they have released in the past year. Lots of computer updates and the long-awaited MacPro. Pricey yes, but if that is your concern then you are not the customer they are concerned with and their will never be a cheap upgradeable Mac.

I sort of agree with you in that regard. That doesn't mean they weren't told that by a credible source at Apple. You think they just made it up? Really? It's not Info Wars--it's the WSJ. What are they supposed to say to their readers? A disclaimer? "This might sound crazy, but..."

It is widely known that Tim Cook doesn't use Apple products in a meaningful way. He should be shown the door after this article.

At last something I can respect Ive for.
And if little Timmy told me the time I would check it on my watch.

Your comment re: him being childlike. I think they're something to that.

I mean, do you people think this story is made up? The Journal just decided to start baseless rumors? That they didn't vet their sources?

Like I said to someone else---this isn't Info Wars.

Notable is the lack of any counter to the claims of Jony's frustration.

I'm surprised it has taken JI so long to realise he's been - to put in London vernacular - played for a c**t by TC. He's not been on products for years but look at these pages and the amount of abuse Ive gets for the products. Unfortunately at that level you can't really take the conversation into the car park.

The iPhone 11 was supposed to be the one with a re design instead Tim decided to release the same phone for 3 years straight , now 2020 it’s

Geniuses like Jony Ive dont give a **** about what posters say on an anonymous Internet forum. (To that end TC probably doesn’t care either and if you notice Apple has not taken some of the “suggestions”) however it’s more likely no one was “played” and Tim and Jony had something worked out.

But we’ll all believe what our biases let us believe (myself included)

I agree 100%. In addition I think it’s time for Ive to move on. Ive may have had the final say but am I to believe he is the only talented on that can make those decisions. There is always someone with more talent and fresh ideas.
