And who defines what hate speech is? If someone doesn’t believe in gay marriage or thinks abortion is murder is that hate speech? Of course Apple has the right to do whatever it wants on its platform but Apple executives are not the arbiters of what is or isn’t hate speech.

I'm not into hip-hop, but could name mainstream songs that glorify pimping and otherwise degrading women. I've heard mainstream rap tunes glorify violence against women and murdering cops in cold blood. Oh, and of course the bountiful hip hop homophobia. None of this is hate speech on the Left and it's all on iTunes.

However, as insane and unhinged as, say, denying the events of Sandy Hook may be, I cannot for a second entertain the possibility that having having Alex Jones' retarded rants on your platform is somehow more harmful than the actual glorification of violence against women and gays that can be found in the iTunes store. But the homophobia and misogyny flies because blacks are higher up than gays and women on the Left's sacred totem pole of victimhood.

There is no such thing as hate speech. Don't be hypocritical TC. The left always has a platform to call everyone a nazi, fascist, racist, sexist or bigot when that is demonstrably not the case.
There’s a huge difference between labelling someone as a racist or a fascist because of their views and what they communicate and being a racist and fascist that espouses their vile beliefs.

Apple CEO Tim Cook this afternoon accepted the Anti-Defamation League's inaugural Courage Against Hate Award at the Never is Now Summit on Anti-Semitism and Hate, where he gave a keynote speech that had a strong message for those seeking to spread hate on Apple's platform.

"We only have one message for those who seek to push hate, division, and violence, Cook said. "You have no place on our platform. You have no home here."

Cook went on to say that this is a longtime view of Apple's, and he pointed out the company's removal of Infowars content earlier this year. Apple, he said, is not afraid to say that its values drive its curation decisions.According to Cook, while Apple is a technology company, its employees "never forget" that the devices they design are imagined by human minds, built by human hands, and are meant to improve human lives.Cook's full speech at the Never is Now Summit was made available via the ADL's livestream of the event. The livestream is now offline, but we'll update should the video be uploaded to the ADL's website at a later time.

So they openly condemn BLM and ANTIFA and all the hate speech that comes from the Left?

Or is it like twitter where they label anything they don’t agree with as hate speech, so they can ban and censor their opposition?

Fascist is left wing, not right. Today’s fascists, are groups like Antifa. They are the brown Coats of today.

An award like this should go to someone like Heather Heyer posthumously who fought racism on the front lines instead of a CEO.

Just like there is no such thing as “the left”.

I'm enjoying watching another generation struggle trying to wrap its brain around free speech, apparently raised without any understanding of the relationship between rights and responsibilities. Not sure if this is the result of the Greatest mistake, the Boomers selfishness, or the Xers apathy, or all the above, but it's definitely over for the past functionality of this country, and into entirely new territory the millennials will have to create by and for themselves.

It’s not censorship to refuse to let someone use your stage. They can still go somewhere else to speak
Using your logic:
Is it not 'censorship' to refuse bake a gays wedding cake?
Is it not 'censorship' to refuse to serve black people at restaurants?
Or as you said "They can still go somewhere else"

If you're promoting the free market rights of private entities (I have a feeling you're not), that's a different story.

Don't be a hypocrite.

Yo check out these antifa losers. Typical neolib tactics of violence, can't they just let people share their views?

That's the most stupid post that I've read for a long time. And that's not hate speech, I love you.

I take it back. The previous post was not the most stupid one.

You know what Antifa stands for right? ANTI FASCISTS. Fascism has a looong history of belonging to right wing politics. Do some research and then we can continue this conversation.

Oh geez, these threads are always filled with misinformed people talking about free speech and censorship.

Apple isn’t the government, they can “censor” (quotes because it isn’t real censorship) anyone they please.

The first amendment doesn’t apply here.

Right, just like the telecommunication companies can censor speech. (Or can not!)

Technically, it is censorship. It is also Apple's right to do so.

The challenge is that right now the topic of censorship is 'hate speech'... whatever that means to Apple. What's next? Religion? News outside of Apples 'approved' list of providers? Where does this end? Who gets to choose the next topic for elimination?
Pretty sure the list ends with people who wish harm or discriminate people based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation.

It’s not rocket science.

Using that logic:
So using a name that sounds good, we will just forgot their actions?

Okay the Left loves socialism. And "Nazi" stood for national socialism.
So the Left loves the Nazis?

THE FOUNDING FATHERS EXPLICITLY SAID IN THE CONSTITUTION THAT WHITE PEOPLE CAN SAY THE N-WORD THIS IS AN OUTRAGE
Well, the N-word has changed its meaning in the last 50 years. 50 years ago it meant "you are a worthless human being because you are black". Today it means "I would really like to know what it feels like to be punched by a black bloke". Feel free to use it whenever you like.

The left is at least as bad as the right, that's true. But it certainly doesn't follow that there's so such thing as hate speech. Both sides are wrong.

The first amendment doesn’t apply here.

So then the Bill of Rights doesn't apply in religious liberty cases too, right? For example, a baker isn't bound by the Bill of Rights and the 14th Amendment to being required to make a cake for a gay wedding. You're cool with all private entities being able to ignore the Bill of Rights?

I know what it stands for, and I also know they are liars. Their actions, are fascist.

Nazi’s were socialists. Mussolini was a leftist. Read a damned book.

Antifa can say they are against anything they want. The label, doesn’t match their actions. Violence, oppression of free speech, intimidation, etc... they are fascists.

Must have struck a nerve, eh?

It's kind of a signature, isn't it. It all fits together in a primitive world view.
These are quite the broad generalizations you're making. I'm curious as to what data you have to back up this comment.

You have. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Cook better stop his unduly external engagement.
Sponsoring (some) political parties etc. has made him one of quarreling partizans - instead of being elevated above them. That combined with (supposed or actual) censorship wil only lead to complications.

There are lots of opportunities and challenges to improve Apple tenure when it comes to innovation, quality, financial outlook, redefining its mission - which are not optimally served by diverting his attention towards external causes
So Apple under cook can do only one thing at a time? Emojis or fix bugs; emojis or innovation; emojis or “outstanding hardware”? Having Apple be humanitarian or new products?
