Maybe, but it looks like they may be the only ones whining about it, and getting political. He must be careful as it isn't like we must buy from Apple.

I don't understand your question since I thought we were talking about Mr. Cook's letter specifically? If there are other people whining like Mr. Cook please let me know as I take this type of thing into account when supporting a company. I admit I didn't read all the posts :)

I meant on political things in general. Why is it ok for Trump to be political and not Cook? As businessmen.

The impression of speaking on behalf of a public company not an individual.

A public company you say, think about that for a second.

Irrelevant since they still ruled it constitutional.

I assume you are speaking of the ACA? We all know they called it a tax to get around the constitution...or do you really think of the ACA as a Tax and not healthcare?

You pulled that out of thin air. I never mentioned anything about that in any form or fashion.

You said Cook needs to stay away from things that are political. Why?

Would you care to elaborate on that...?

In my view.. being ceo of a public company he should not presume all shareholders see it his way...
Granted .. he may have some issues with the consequences of the order.....but his letter to the employes goes way beyond acknowledgment of the problem and offering of help.

IMO..... its better if he stays neutral. And focuse on Apple as a IT/computing product company.. not a political entity.

Yes I did. But never said it was smart for anyone to do it. You brought in the thing about Trump, when I didn't elude to it in any form or fashion.

You ask why...
Because Apple sells a product that sits on retail shelves, and it relies on every day consumers to make money. When he starts getting political, or making political statements, then he will potentially upset would be buyers who have a different opinion then he does. Never a good idea to slap the face of people in the market place.

Example: This is not the first time he has gotten political. Because of this, my last laptop purchase was a Dell. I fully support what Trump (I have now brought him up :)) is doing on this specific item. Finally some common sense when it comes to US security.
Each time Mr. Cook makes these statements I start considering other avenues to fill my tech needs. He has lost business from me because of he statements in the past, and I doubt I am the only one. Just not good business IMO.

First of all, he can say what he likes, because freedom of speech. Similar to your right to comment on MacRumors if you like (within forum rules).

Also:

"There are employees at Apple who are directly affected by yesterday's immigration order."

Maybe you missed that bit.
Some people comment but don't read.

Quite a large proportion of terrorism
Why is Mr. Cook not hiring Americans to work the jobs here anyway?

Ongoing IT Skill shortage. Which isn't unique to the u.s.

What should be stopped, is the laying off of employees, and replacing them with cheaper employees imported on a visa. Then having the audacity to expect the outgoing employees to train their replacements!

Google search is your friend. MSFT, Google, Airbnb, Facebook, Urber etc... all have commented on this issue.

You are talking to someone who has been involved in tech hiring, and I have had no issues here. Please provide a link that supports your statement, as I know my situation does not necessarily represent everyone.

I have already stopped using some of the above due to past political statements. But per forum rules can you please provide a link to those statements from the above you mention? Thanks in advance.

There isn't a skill shortage. Apple is just choosing not to hire the Americans who are available and skilled.

I wholly disagree. One could argue that as the leader of a huge public company he has not only the right as a citizen but the responsibility as a leader to speak up. Both sides agree that the strength of our economy, made up by these companies, is a vital part of our nations security. Therefore the people who are chosen to lead them, often by the shareholders, have to speak up. Again, these are public companies.

If one gets upset at hearing an opposite view and runs away, as you did with your money, how will things every change?

Oh and btw you did bring up Trump before I responded. Picking and choosing facts isn't how you debate.

So far ACA.. has made my insurance 50% more unaffordable than it was ....

....not sure what your point is or how it relates to Cook and his comments.

Well if there is such shortage.. the outgoing wont have a problem finding new positions .. right?

Go back up a few posts.. it came up in your and tshrimps exchange. ..ps i think i addressed it to the wrong person though.. my apologies.

Re CEO of public corp:
you dont see how this can potentialy create confilct and sound biased and presumptuous ..
I remind you.. Apple is not a political entity... people from all walks of life and political views are customers and shareholdrers..
Its not wise to alienate some just to make a personal political statement which may come across its on behalf of the whole public company..

Doing it personaly independent of the company is an option he has .

It literally comes up when I put Google, Microsoft in my search bar... There are literally a zillion articles on the subject that you could've read before you started making it up as you go along.

I still don't see how the ACA relates to Cook. It is getting late though...

"Emotional Wreck" aren't the words I'd use to describe my feelings. I'd say I'm very afraid of loosing my rights with this hate filled regime. This is a rather scary time for those of us not white, male, Christian, heterosexual... so you can take your glib, arrogant superlative's and ignore the rest of us who will suffer. Isn't that the arrogant Republican way?

yes cause you guys had it sooooo good under the golden child huh

You explained nothing. Perhaps you have no point?

I was afforded more rights under president Obama than under any other president. So yes, I'd say I did have it "good" and am rather certain will have it rather "bad" under the Republicans.

You explained nothing. Perhaps you have no point?
Do u even understand that im a telling u i responded to the wrong person?
That someone else brought ACA up.. and i responded to you by mistake?...that the thread had nothing to do with you..
Which one of the above is confusing to you..... geee.

As for My Point re ACA.. simple... my insurance has become 50% more unaffordable.
Do u understand that.......
Its a very simple statment... its not political.. its just a statment of fact. I would know.. i write the check every month.
