Does no one realize Tim Cook is talking about the fact he was poached from Compaq by Steve Jobs???

Worst mistake of Steve's life (hiring of Sculley included).
[doublepost=1497033796][/doublepost]
Click bait headline.

True, but then literally every single thing Timmy does these days is click bait. Timmy's a walking click bait headline.

Tim Cooks original draft:

"...And to you, class of 2017. You are the college generation that proved that Apple was so far ahead that we literally didn't have to put any effort into improving our products during your entire college careers! And with that minimal effort we were able to charge you more and make ourselves more profitable...

Let's give it up for Profits!!!"

Devastating to watch Mac sales plummet. We need real innovation like 30-day battery life, Blu-ray, 8K display, 5 TB drive, all in a light and thin aluminum body for only $600.

The iMac Pro should be $1,000 AT MOST. I can build a PC with the same specs for less than the crazy $5,000 they are asking for. HomePod should be $50.

Until then I am voting with my wallet and proudly giving my money to real innovative artists like Samsung and Asus. They DESTROY everything Apple makes.

I saw what you did there.

Working with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, Cook said he eventually learned "life's biggest and most important question" being "how can I serve humanity?"

surely not by re-releasing existing products with dumbed-down specs, dropping the price, and calling it a new product

Um. Not entirely sure if you are being sarcastic. I just bought a 27" 1440p Asus Republic of Gamers display and it is the best piece of hardware I've ever owned. And when my iPhone dies I'll be replacing it with a Samsung.

Time for a Boston Apple Campus. Austin and Ann Arbor too.

There is already an Apple campus in Austin... It's their second largest by employee count in the world IIRC. There's actually two campuses in Austin, one does all the US based HR, finance, and most of the AOS account management for non-enterprise business, and one does chip research and SOME POC production.

Can you show me where apple does not pay taxes?

As the whole world seems to know except you Apple only paid around 2% overall taxes in Ireland instead of properly taxing the money where the profit gain actually happens, see also https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/31/technology/apple-tax-eu-ireland.html?_r=0 This sounds quite interesting for a company that "only wants to serve humanity". See also: http://money.cnn.com/2016/08/30/technology/apple-tax-ruling-numbers/index.html see also http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/20/apple-offshore-taxes_n_3307591.html and many, many more ... Apple seems to be very good at avoiding paying taxes. That's a fact. I'm sorry if this disturbs some fanboy feelings. It's a matter of fact, as with other multi-national companies too (e.g. Starbucks). And while many big companies are doing so, it's still not fair. IIRC there were also court hearings in the US regarding Apple taxation ...

How can I serve humanity? This is life's biggest and most important question.

You could start by allowing consumers to have the right to repair their Apple products. Or not practice planned obsolescence. Or sell products that aren't artificially priced. Or give consumers proper options. Or not evade taxes. Or not stifle innovation.

It's as if you haven't even seen the two new iMessage effects!

Hint: If you want to serve humanity, don't avoid taxes to that extent.

Right. Let's all give more to the government because we all know they're such great stewards of our hard-earned money.

If Apple keeps it, at least you know you can get a piece of that by buying shares of AAPL.

What you should really be asking is why the government needs more than twice as much now as they did during JFK years. Social security? Medicaid? Ok, sure, except they burned through all of those funds too.

Purpose in life? Well, the good old Westminster Catechism still rings true: Know God and enjoy him forever.
"Don't fear failure. Fear spending your life succeeding in things that ultimately don't matter."

Why would you be shaking your head? Cook can have a little humor too. It's normal. Not everything Cook does has to focus on innovation.

I agree. It was a funny line.

Not everything has to be about innovation. I've had my share of complaints about Apple's direction lately but this isn't one of them. What is he supposed to say? I was going to give a speech, but instead I give you a holographic audiovisual presentation beamed from space! Right? It's just a speech. Keep your panties on, people. No need for panic.

It's interesting to hear successful people talk about "finding purpose" and it's usually something very lofty like "serving humanity." The reality is that success is largely based on luck. You can improve your odds through education, risk-taking or networking. There are ways, but still - luck plays a huge role. In retrospect, we can all come up with quotable life lessons for all to follow. The truth about success is a little more complicated, I think.

The MacRumors groupthink is strong in asserting the belief that the Mac has stagnated. Touch Bar is not the next step in man-machine interface as it offers no real applications beyond gimmicky features. In a mobile device thinness and weight are not an issue and yet they continue to push thinness and weight as if they do matter. Balancing portability and power? No. Power and battery life. I need infinite battery life. I'm on my devices all day. From when I wake to when I'm drifting off to sleep.

Also, Apple charges an Apple tax and yet they don't pay their due taxes. Minimizing their tax burden is disgusting. We need to fund our ongoing wars and Apple needs to pay up.

So: are you saying these forum members are wrong in their estimation of Apple as a company and its product lineup? We predicted the iPod failure. Where is the iPod today? That's right. We were right. It was overpriced and a useless toy. MacBook Air was a joke in 2008. And it's barely updated today. Failure. Apple is too arrogant. Wireless is not the future. My father always told me Wi-Fi was a gimmick. Slower and limited range. Bluetooth is the same.

Apple needs to focus on REAL computers.

MacBook ($500), MacBook Pro ($800)
iMac ($500), MacPro ($800)

All Blu-ray, all SD card slots, all Ethernet ports, all USB, all headphone jacks. Innovation.

Rest assured at least one person got that this was satire.

Not sure if trolling or serious

iPod a failure? Do you live in an alternate reality?

I think "iPod a failure" was intended to be the giveaway line.
