I hope Apple fixes that cellular bug with the iPhone too, I’ve had it for years. If I start a call on WiFi and go outside, it drops. During the iPhone 6 keynote in 2014 they said it was supposed to hand the call off.

I suppose he has to say it, in reality there were only about 10 people queuing up at stores.

Based on other reports, I was wondering if they asked everyone in the store to huddle up together for the picture.

The question is: Why does anyone buy an Iphone 8 Plus knowing that in a few months he can have the best phone for not much more? I don't understand that...
Cause I don't wanna wait! I was on the 6.
I'll update to the SEX(special edition X) when that comes out next year..
Meanwhile I have most of the features of the X right now.

Why is it worth $300 extra to get an OLED screen (which samsung already has in sub-$300 phones) when you also lose touchID and get that hideous notch?

One way or the other Apple's financials are going to be interesting the next 2 quarters.

That'll be the Xs, also known as Apple Watch 4 (the eXtra Small iPhone).

I hadn't seen that issue on a 6s with Verizon or AT&T. Is this common? Maybe I'm not on WiFi calling at that point. Hmmm.

I just got my 8 Plus in Gold and it's such a great color now. It almost looks ceramic-yellow. Great all around. I can't wait to try it! Also, can't wait for the X next month.

I agree. But my point was then why even launch the 8. Instead do one thing really well instead of introducing fragmentation in the same generation of hardware.

I know I feel the same way, I think they’re stuck in a bit of a halfway house.

The eight is half old and the ten is a half new. This years iPhones are a two fold transition.

I just picked up my iPhone 8 from AT&T after initially ordering an 8 Plus from the Apple Store and I have to say it’s definitely a nicer looking phone than what came before it. I traded in a Matte Black 7 for a Silver 8 and the glass back is beautiful. The texture is much nicer to hold than the aluminum and while the phone is slighter heavier than my 7 I think it makes the phone easier to hold and type on. The display isn’t a huge upgrade but the true tone is nice. The camera seems to have better light filtration but I can’t tell if that’s related to the display or the updated camera.

Biggest reasons to upgrade include the wireless charging, faster processor and better camera. Not a necessary upgrade but it only costs me $15 more a month than my 7 so why not?
It's a trap.

There was a line about 15 people deep at my store in Gilbert Arizona. I went inside and played around with one for a few minutes. Definitely worth the upgrade if you are on a 6S or older. The a was noticeably faster than my 7. I’m upgrading to the X.
I don't get it. Why on Earth would I want to update my ihpone 6??? It still works fine, the battery is good, the screen is bright. Why should I want to spend extra money to get a new phone that does exactly the same?

Best is subjective in this case because the best choice between two excellent options depends on your needs and circumstances and your preferences. The iPhone X is not the absolute best in the eyes of every consumer.

Some people don't want the Notch, don't want the changes in the user interface that the new display and removal of the home button entail, don't want the price, don't want the wait, don't want the form factor at all, don't want OLED, even. Those are the reasons I remember reading, just off the top of my head, and if I weren't about to rush off to run some errands I'd come up with more.

well written and completely spot on!!

Example? I can only speak for 1st world countries where the model's design changes every year or at most every two years.
I live in the US. car companies go by generations. A generation is kept every 3-6 years typically before a design refresh.

Look at any model of car as an example. The yearly changes are akin to say the yearly changes Apple does with same design

Look at Toyota Celiacs with 90-93 being the same, 94-99, 2000-2005
Look at Subaru Impreza with 2008-2011 the same, 2012-present and generations before doing same
Look at Tundras with 00-06 being the same, then 07-present

Look at mustangs, look at jeeps, look at any car and you will see this behavior

I have a 6 and it is great! 11 brought some new life to it.
Got my 8+ today and its really great.
You can get at least $300 for your 6 but if you're not into the upgrades Im sure you'll be fine :)

It depends on what you consider makes the best phone.

Yes the iPhone X is a new design, however the internals are identical to the iPhone 8.

The only real differences are the screen tech and Face ID

To some users one screen might look marginally better than the other, but the iPhone 8 screen is far from being crap.

On Face ID vs Touch ID, I think people would've been happier with Touch ID or at the very least the option of using it instead of Face ID.

Performance wise it looks like the iPhone 8 beats the IPhone X. https://browser.geekbench.com/ios_devices/52

I drive a 2012 Civic. Just paid it off this year. No interest in ugrading because I prefer my cars design to their newer models.

Undoubtedly less demand with the iPhone X looming, but best indicator is order times since Apple has been actively discouraging lining up at stores. Order times on website are already slipping to two weeks for some models.
Which models are slipping? The 64GB unlocked version still says 1-2 days here. I'm wondering if people are upgrading for more storage more so than the actual features of the 8.

Side by side, compare your 6 to an 8. As an iPhone user yourself I’m disappointed you haven’t realised that it’s not about tech specs. On paper there’s virtually no difference but in the real world there’s no comparison.

I’m a 6S user and I plan on getting an 8.

A 10 if I’m feeling rich lol

“Haha, some suckers actually bought it? Well, those are a few less people in line for the X next month, which means I get mine faster.” -Tim Cook (not THAT Tim Cook, though).

But in all honesty, the 8 doesn’t need to be a sales juggernaut, and it IS a good phone in its own right.

doesn't need to be a juggernaught, but if the iPhone 8 sales are considered very low, it's an indiication of a misjudgement by Apple.

For you and I as consumers, it's irrelevant. the iPhone8 is a great phone. But for investors, that might piss off those who are looking for hot sales numbers.

No doubt he's thrilled selling people the same four year old design. Imagine if Apple sold cars without updating the design for half a decade.
Some designs don't need to be updated every few years. That's the problem with certain technology and automobile companies- they keep trying to change things that don't need to be changed.

You're listing economy/utility models when we're talking about high end. Name one high end car from BMW, Mercedes, Lexus or even Honda, Toyota, etc. that doesn't get updated every year or two years?
We are? you stated car companies change designs every year. they do not. And the iPhone is not high end as everyone has it.

And even high end cars have generations. You aren't into cars it seems
