Better focus on "APPLE" and upcoming "WWDC" event Tim!.Give your politics a rest for some time.

This isn't just politics. Trump's awful decision is bad for business; US business in particular. Apple is in business; Cook is responsible for that business; and he certainly should be speaking out on issues that impact that business.

Cook is not close to being alone as a business leader speaking out against this decision.

I'm a "scientist". Exactly what scientific part of climate change don't you understand or don't you agree with? I'm happy to explain it to you.

I'm sure you can't answer this question because you don't understand the basic facts about climate change. You just repeat whatever you hear Trump say. Open a book, look at the science, think for yourself.

I accept the science of climate change and I'm glad Trump pulled out of the accord. How does that make you feel?

The agreement is fair to China, since it forces the US to pay more, since the US is the largest historical polluter.

You don't get to take advantage of pollution, and tell other people they can't pollute, without paying for it.

I think we should make an accord that looks at GDP per ton of carbon produced so that we can start to determine which countries are efficiently producing goods with minimal pollution.

Oh wait, the US is near the top of most efficient producers with least carbon produced per GDP? Well...that metric will not work then. Lets go back to something that makes no sense like "total pollution".

A very sad day for our beautiful country and the world. May people will needlessly suffer as a result of this irrational action by president Trump. Many people will suffer.

In many ways I am glad that I am near 80 and will not live to see the troubled times to come, but my grandchildren and my great grandchildren will. Very sad.

So ONLY Trump can save the planet and make it cooler? Is that what you're saying? Jesus, keep drinking the global warming KoolAid. There's plenty of other countries sucked into this scam so the the planet is safe, they will just be paying outlandish taxes but the US won't.

and I thought he was going to be pro-business.

20x more jobs in renewable energy, but ok, make poisoning the whole world okidoki so you can send a handful of people back into the coal mines instead and brag about it. Makes sense in Hee-Haw land I guess.

The increase of atmospheric CO2 following the Industrial Revolution also has facilitated the expansion of natural vegetation into what had been barren areas, such as the edges of the Sahara and the Arctic. According to the U.N., the world will add 2.5 billion people over the next 30 years, most of them in developing countries. Feeding these people and assuring them a comfortable living standard should be among our highest moral priorities. With more CO2 in the atmosphere, the challenge can and will be met.

Professor Judith Curry, of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and president of the Climate Forecast Applications Network, said yesterday: ‘I disagree with Gavin. The record warm years of 2015 and 2016 were primarily caused by the super El Nino.’

The slowdown in warming was, she added, real, and all the evidence suggested that since 1998, the rate of global warming has been much slower than predicted by computer models – about 1C per century.

It was the narrative from the beginning. In 1998, [NASA’s James] Hansen made some vague remarks. Newsweek ran a cover that says all scientists agree. Now they never really tell you what they agree on. It is propaganda.”

“So all scientists agree it’s probably warmer now than it was at the end of the Little Ice Age. Almost all Scientists agree that if you add CO2 you will have some warming. Maybe very little warming. But it is propaganda to translate that into it is dangerous and we must reduce CO2 etc.

If you can make an ambiguous remark and you have people who will amplify it ‘they said it not me’ and he response of the political system is to increase your funding, what’s not to like?

If I look through my department, at least half of them keep mum. Just keep on doing your work, trying to figure out how it works.

MIT ‘has just announced that they see this bringing in $300 million bucks. It will support all sorts of things.’
– Dr. Richard Lindzen, atmospheric physicist, MIT professor emeritus, and lead author of the “Physical Climate Processes and Feedbacks” chapter of the 2001 IPCC report

To be part of the “consensus” one need only agree that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and that human activities have warmed the planet “to some unspecified extent” — both of which are uncontroversial points.

“Almost everybody involved in the climate debate, including the majority of sceptics, accepts these propositions, so little can be learned from the Cook et al. paper,” writes Montford. “The extent to which the warming in the last two decades of the twentieth century was man-made and the likely extent of any future warming remain highly contentious scientific issues.

I don't get this, how can one maniac (becoming president by money and suspicious connections with Russia) change the whole USA back to the stone-age without anybody doing something against this. This is not democracy, this is dictatorship!!!!
[doublepost=1496391248][/doublepost]

People like you scare the hell out off me. Where is the world getting to?

By your logic, Obama was a dictator also then. He failed to go through Congress like our Constitution requires and did it on his own as an "agreement" with other countries rather than a treaty.

That's why Trump is able to undo it just as easily. So, in a round about way, it's Obama the dictators fault.

Trump: the most obtuse, clueless, unqualified and dangerous President in our history.

Appealing to his base for a political "win" instead of putting the country and earth first! He doesn't believe the science because he's ignorant.

The dude has snorted way too much covfefe!

All these CEOs should have encouraged Obama to push this to the senate. That is how our country does treaties. Any treaty one man does is undone by one man (or woman). Obama decided he should do this on his own without turning it over to the senate, so he made certain that any president that wanted to could withdraw. So here we are.
Senate would not have ratified it as a Treaty. That is why Obama termed it an Accord. He knew he didn't have the votes (2/3 majority).

I accept the science of climate change and I'm glad Trump pulled out of the accord. How does that make you feel?

Very sad, just like the majority of sensible thinking humans. Care to explain how you think it's a good idea to pull out of an agreement that basically encourages every human, company and nation to pollute less?

Why is it so important for US Citizens to pollute? You're already the second biggest polluter in the world. You want to be the first?

And next, you want to dismantle the EPA because they force your car to be more fuel efficient? The horror! You want to re-invest in coal mining? you want to change the boundaries and status of the National Parks? Where's it going to stop?

Article VI of the US Constitution says otherwise: "This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land;"
[doublepost=1496408073][/doublepost]...then there is Congress' "Treaty on Treaties" legal mess...

Bravo for you. I have a 4 year (BS) degree in chemistry. I, unlike you, have read up on the subject and have not let the propaganda influence me. No one can prove that human activity adversely affects the climate to any significant degree. In fact, it may be a benefit. People are so deeply committed to believing the "religion", they wont even consider that tho.

Jesus this dude should resign

We get it Tim you're a proud globalist
trump is right. we don't know who is actually getting $400 billion dollars. thats too much money. its time to stop American citizens from paying for everything
Tim should shut up. Trump did the right thing

Globalism isn't really a philosophy. It's an inevitable consequence of advances in information and transportation technology.

Trump is selling the fiction that you can make it all go away by sticking your head in the sand and pretending it doesn't exist. But he's just taking America out of the driver's and letting others drive.

We had the most to gain from this deal -- we wrote it, pretty much -- and dropping out was massively stupid. No way the future is in the hands of Europe (well, mainly Germany) and China. How do you feel about that?

No. I'm referring to the money the U.S has to pay

Now I know you didn't read it yourself. The US "doesn't have to pay" anything to stay in the accord. There is a global fund that all wealthy countries have pledged to pay into to help poor countries make the transition to cleaner power sources. It's voluntary, Trump can change the level of contribution, and overall the cost is a drop in the bucket. The US has pledged $3B, total, over the entire life of the accord. Obama paid in $500M so far. This is much smaller than the cost of the silly wall you want to keep out the people you caricature in your little cartoon.

This was not a climate treaty. It was a money transfer treaty. If you want to improve your climate, simply reverse deforestation. In my community as we have paved essentially the entire valley (used to be oranges, lemons, grapes, natural trees and brush) the weather has changed. That is indeed manmade. The air pollution was reduced by government mandated automobile equipment and reduced efficiency fuels with additives that turned out to be extreme water table pollutants (MBE and others). Get the government out of it. Let the private sector fix the issues. Heck, use government funding for it if you want. Public private partnerships like Red Cross work great.

And yet the overwhelming majority of scientists have come to the opposite conclusion... Surely you realize an undergrad degree doesn't make you a scientific authority? One thing you need to learn is to go where the evidence takes you rather than pick the things that confirm what you want to hear and ignore the rest.

Tim has the right to say whatever he wants to. However I wonder if it is appropriate to circulate your political opinions to every employee in your company. Surely some people at Apple may disagree. I wouldn't like to work for a boss the constantly tells me his political views in a way that is worded like he occupies the moral high ground.

Why is Pruitt a Nazi? How does he compare with those who gruesomely exterminated millions of people?

You must have missed the post from Riddlabronc where he compared the entire EPA to nazis. I was seeking clarification to whom he was referring. You should ask him why he thinks Scott Pruitt is a Nazi.

Personally, I think he is an ignorant and unethical lobbyist deeply beholden to industry. He knows nothing of science or of environmental protection and is resoundly unfit to hold any public office, let alone the head of the EPA. Drain the swamp? What a farce.

This is the saddest day in American politics since the assassination of MLK. If you don't think that, I doubt your sanity.

I might go with the day Trump was elected. That was brutal, sad, and devastating for America and the world.

But, at least it made me decide to spend the entire summer in Europe and avoid Trump as much as possible (but even that ass makes it to macrumors lately).

Yeah ok then we shouldn't use any tech product then?! So we have to be punished because of the entire tech industry being leftist "tolerant" progressives?! See I'll still buy Apple products because I truly love their products even though I don't agree with their politics. But oh boy if anyone disagrees with the progressive thinking than boycott those companies. How about the whole chik-fil-a debacle? Yeah so tolerant.

if you have an issue with Apple dont buy the products.

LOL. A whole 4 year B.S. degree?

Don't you know that experts aren't to be trusted? Science and facts aren't to be believed because they are fake? Why are you waving your exemplary credentials around? We need uninformed outsiders to tell us what we need to know.

By the way, science isn't a belief system. You must not hang out with scientists much.
